The BGN's "I was wrong thread."

I love prediction threads as much as the other guy. However, it's funny when someone has 10 predictions, half are true and half are soooo wrong and off base. Yet, the poster will come forth with their right ones and act like the next Nostradamus. I think we all at one point have been guilty of that!

So let's see.. Who has the cojones to actually come out and admit their predictions that they thought were sooo right but yet so wrong. This thread will have possibilities for a lot of entertainment... I'll start

1. Reggie Browns rookie year, I claimed he would be the next Chad Johnson

2. DeSean Jackson was too small of a WR when we drafted him

3. Back when Buckhalter and Westbrook were part time players together, I thought Buckhalter would have the better career.

4. In 2004, I was betting dollars to donuts that we were going to select Stephen Jackson. When we moved up to 16, I about peed myself.

5. In 1999, I was in the camp that thought we should've drafted Ricky Williams instead of McNabb. But I was 14 at the time with limited knwoledge, so I get a pass I think

6. I predicted Matt Ware was the next Bobby Taylor -- I was in love with that whole bust of a draft lol.

I'll post more in the comments when I think of them

I still think Reggie Brown's got it.

Bad predicts die hard.

Let’s see what I else I can think of.

Michael Vick sucks.
AJ Feeley will be a good starter somewhere.
We would have the best o-line in the league with the Andrew’s brothers.
Sam Rayburn is going to be a starter (after his 8 sack season).
Jeremy Bloom.

But in hindsight...

I think the only players we could’ve picked instead that would’ve been better for us would’ve been Delmas or Lauranitis.

by eaglemaniac814 on Apr 6, 2011 9:43 PM EDT up reply actions

Hmm…

I was dead wrong about Jimmy Clausen and Sam Bradford. I thought Jimmy Clausen was the #1 QB prospect and would turn into a probowl QB while Sam Bradford would be another spread offense bust ala Alex Smith.
I thought Kareem Jackson was a good prospect only to watch him under perform for the worst pass defense in the NFL.
I thought Carlos Dunlap would be a complete bum.
I thought Bunkley would be better than he is.
I was on the Robert Ayers hype train, I thought he would become a good 4-3 LE. So far he has been stuck in a 3-4 defense but he’ll get his shot this coming season.
I really thought the Eagles should’ve drafted Jeff Otah.
I thought Kevin Kolb was going to light the league up this past season, I’m still really high on Kevin Kolb and think he’ll become a top QB in the league.
After watching Joe Mays light up the previous pre-season I thought for sure he would do just fine as Stewart Bradley’s replacement.

I’m in the same boat as you on 4 and 6. In fact, I remember when the Eagles were on the board in the 3rd round, I was saying over and over again… Matt Ware… Matt Ware… Matt Ware. On the ticker on the bottom of the screen he was even Kiper’s best available player. And when they announced Matt Ware, I went apeshit. Then he did absolutely nothing as an Eagle, and Belichick even focused his gameplan in the SB on attacking Ware.

Ive been fairly adamant that the Eagles aren’t drafting Jimmy Smith, and I have a weird feeling I could be dead wrong there.

I have a feeling you’re wrong too. :) New CB coach Johnny Lynn has a history of acquiring big CBs and employing press man coverage.

Corners drafted and notable players signed under Johnny Lynn (will include corners who eventually shifted to safety):
Andre Weathers: 6’ 190 lbs 4.65 40 yard dash
Will Allen: 5’11 195 lbs. 4.44 40 yard dash
William James: 6’ 197 lbs. 4.51 40 yard dash
Frank Walker: 5’11" 202 lbs. 4.33 40 yard dash
Dashon Goldson: 6’2" 205 lbs. 4.60 40 yard dash
Tarell Brown: 5’11" 190 lbs 4.45 40 yard dash
Reggie Smith: 6’1" 199 lbs. 4.61 40 yard dash
Nate Clements: 5’11" 209 lbs. 4.38 40 yard dash.
Samari Rolle: 6’ 175 lbs. 4.4 40 yard dash

He hasn’t had to draft many corners because he has had the luxury of working with some established secondary players like:
Chris McCalister: 6’1" 210 lbs. 4.55 40 yard dash
Shawntae Spencer: 6’ 176 lbs. 4.47 40 yard dash
Walt Harris: 5’11" 196 lbs. ??? 40 yard dash

It was more about the character stuff for me. Since the Eagles had drafted so many players last year that were team captains, guys that were voted by their teammates as their team MVP, guys with 3.5 GPA’s, etc., my thinking was that they were moving toward building a team with high character players. But I read something Tommy Lawlor wrote that had a different take on the player they drafted last year that made a lot of sense:

“Last year the Eagles felt they needed an infusion of the right kind of players. They went after team leaders, good students, and high character prospects. That foundation now gives them the freedom to take a chance on someone this year.

Yeah, at one point in the first half, I think LT actually had negative yardage on a significant number of carries (like 10?). And that was when LT was in his prime and the Eagles couldn’t stop the run to save their lives. And you’re right – I think that was the 2005 season (the season that T.O. and Rosenhaus ruined).

My favorite predicition

is back in 2000, when I was graduating college. I bet a bunch of my friends at WVU (Redskins and Giants fans) that the Eagles would dominate the NFC East for the next 5 years. It turns out I was right, but I didn’t see those guys enough to remind them about it constantly. When it came time to collect they all “forgot” about the bet. It wasn’t much, only $20 and there were 5 of us (including me). Bummer.

As for being wrong, I though Fred-Ex was going to be awesome.

I thought TO would be happy and not a dick once he got his wish and started playing with D-Mac.

I thought trading McNabb would really hurt in the short term and we squandered a good chance to win a Super Bowl.

I too was in the mindset that Ricky Williams would be better than D-mac.

I almost always think trading down is stupid when the Eagles do it, though the team has a pretty good track record (But THAT GUY is still on the board! What the hell are you doing!!??)

The Cowboys were restricted in FA due to that “Final 8” rule (or whatever it’s called) that limits those playoff teams from signing FAs freely.

by PhiladelphiaEagles on Apr 6, 2011 3:59 PM EDT up reply actions

Actually, 100% sure. That rule made because of the CBA collapse.

Source

Now that the salary cap has been lifted for the 2010 season, there is a fear that deep-pocketed owners like Jerry Jones and Daniel Snyder will have the ability to “buy” a championship. Well, that’s only half true.

In anticipation of a failed CBA agreement, the NFL set down “triggers” to prevent big-market teams from taking advantage of the absence of a cap limit.

[…] This is the “Final Eight” rule; it will extend deeper restrictions for teams that reach the final eight positions in the playoffs.

The final four teams will not be permitted to negotiate or sign any unrestricted free agent to a player contract unless he is cut from his team or originally belonged to the team that is trying to sign (or re-sign) him.

The bottom four of the final eight have it a little easier. They will be allowed to sign only one player with a salary of $4,925,000 or more and any number of players with a first-year salary of no more than $3,275,000 with an annual increase of no more than 30 percent in the following year.

There will be an additional mechanism to permit the final eight teams to sign an unrestricted free agent for each of the players they lose to free agency so long as they don’t spend more than the player they lost earns from his new team.

Let's see:

I too thought Reggie Brown was going to turn into a special player, possibly All-Star.

I thought Vick was completely overrated (I still believe that was true when he was in Atlanta) and couldn’t truly be a good QB ever.

I thought McNabb would have a really solid season in Washington, getting them to the playoffs or on the bubble.

I thought DJax would be a headache and not worth drafting (even though I was excited about his skills).

I believed Shawn Andrews would right the ship and get back to what he was.

I know there are others, but these were the first thoughts to pop into my head.

- I thought Desean Jackson would bust as a wideout and be nothing but a good returner.
- I thought Jack Iguana would actually be really good after he recovered from his torn ACL. I blame JIBTA for that one.
- I thought Macho was going to be a stud when we picked him.
- I thought DTO was going to be a stud his rookie year.
- I thought we were going to beat the Pats in 04 and the Cardinals in 09.
- I was sure we were resigning Dawkins thanks to that idiot Spuds.

My list of rights would be three times as long so don’t judge me!

-I thought CJ Gaddis was going to be huge
-I thought Michael Lewis was the next beast safety when he hit the scene.
-I was upset when we grabbed Asante because I thought Lito was just as good.
-I thought we’d stomp the Pats in 04.
-I thought Andy Reid would improve our hurry-up offense, thought it was inevitable being that bad.
-Thought trading McNabb was an atrocious move

Got some right

-Loved Westbrook out of Nova.
-Was hoping we would grab DJax in the 1st round the year we got him, didn’t think he’d last to our 2nd spot and I loved him at Cal.
-Never hopped on the Reggie Brown bandwagon.

Defensive player of the year for 2011 is...

Wild_Eagle!

Yes, Wild_Eagle's infamous reputation did help him get this award. But he shows that he walks the talk that he serves...with his keyboard. Wild_Eagle protects the motherland (BGN) from the evils of noobs, douche-bags, and other assholes. Although he may be crude and unnecessary, all great defenders draws the yellow flag from time to time.

I don’t follow college ball enough to know who that is (or really at all since I came to Japan).

I was wrong...

…After the tragically foolish 2nd round pick wasted on Kolb, I thought Reid would be forced to give him the starting job for more than 1 quarter. I was wrong.

I was wrong about Vick.
I was wrong about the McNabb trade.
I was wrong about Reggie Brown, thought he was a T.O. without the attitude.

I hope I am wrong, but Kolb is a four-letter word.

i was on the fence

then a stat came out saying we scored more points with him off the field..like 6 points more..s o i was like ah no biggie…

Whod we get in 07 to replace him Curtis? I actually predicted Curtis right, but I was wrong int he fact that he was probably better of in the slot. I thought he cold hack it as an X wr

He had a pretty good year in NE after we let him go. A big part of that might have to do with the fact that Tom Brady was his QB and Belicheat was his coach, though.

Yeah.

Better sure Jabar Gaffney, of all people, took the #3 spot from Stallworth in ’07, hence why he went to the Browns the following year.

I....

never thought Mike Vick would play at a decent level again, not to mention the great level he played at this year.

though Shawn Andrews would recover and be a great player for us again.(Also Though he and Stacey would make our line a force for years… whoops)

thought the eagles should have signed Antrell Rolle

Let's get it Birds.

- I thought James Thrash was the best player on the field.

- I thought T.O. would get his act together in Philly.

- I thought we would beat the F#$%*@^ Cardinals in the NFCCG.

- I thought it wasn’t my dad who threw the car battery at Brandon Jacobs.

- I hated… hated the Maclin pick.

- I hated the Brandom Graham pick.

- I would have bet my life that we were going to beat the Cowboys in the playoffs two seasons ago.

- I would have gone pro if coach had put me in.

wow really?

About the Cowboys game. I was nervous oas hell. We hadn’t beat any good teams that year and a lot of the times narrowlyl escaped the mediocre ones . I wouldn’t of even bet a dollar on that game.

i was sooo positive

that there was no way in hell the cowboys would beat us three times in one season, two times in a row. no way.

Oh wow, this is one of our best threads ever

Where was I when it was live?

In any case, I could post here a lot. I’ll just stick with that I thought T.O. and McNabb were going to rule the world.
