We're getting down the end of our top 10 draft picks of the Andy Reid era and it seems like most everyone have these last two guessed.
- 2002 - 3rd round
I think a lot of people forget how much of a risky pick Brian Westbrook was. The fact that a 3rd round pick became one of the best overall backs in the NFL is impressive, but not unheard of... However, picking a back that didn't even play top level college football and having him turn into one of the best backs in the league is unheard of.
Westbrook played his college ball right in the Eagles' backyard at Villanova. He was great there and he set division 1-AA records, but the fact is that he wasn't playing against other guys destined for the NFL. A lot of the guys he played against weren't even necessarily scholarship athletes. There's no doubt that the Eagles probably had a scouting advantage with him at Villanova, but it's still a bit of a leap of faith that he can jump from playing teams like Penn or Monmouth to playing the Giants. That's quite a step up to say the least.
I'm not going to go through all of his stats and what not because we know has good he was. Instead, I'll just one video after the jump. For me, it was the greatest moment of his Eagles career. It will give you chills and what Merrill Reese says at the beginning is sure to give you dejavu given what happened this year.
