Top Ten Best Eagles Draft Picks - #8 LeSean McCoy
There's no doubt that the 2009 draft was a big for Andy Reid and probably rivals the 2002 draft as his best. This is the second player drafted in 09 to make the top 10.
LeSean McCoy - 2009 - 2nd round
When LeSean McCoy was drafted in 09, our hope was that he could ease into the role of Brian Westbrook's understudy and eventually become something close to the player #36 was. As it turned out, he was forced into a starting role almost right away and isn't just a Westbrook lite...
McCoy rushed for 1080 yards and 7 TDs last year on 5.2 ypc. He also led the team in receptions with 78 and added another 600 yards of offense and two TDs. So in total he accounted for almost 1,700 yards of offense and 9 TDs. Brian Westbrook last put up those numbers in 2007.
While Michael Vick & DeSean Jackson got the headlines for the Eagles offense, LeSean McCoy was really the engine that made it work. The offense had games where it was fine without Vick or Jackson, but I'm not sure it would have fared as well without McCoy.

Andy Ried:
a running game guru? Duece Staley, Brian Westbrook, LeSean McCoy. 3 running backs in 12 years all of whom were considered in their heyday to be top 10 in the NFL at the least, maybe all top 5…

Staley was here before Reid and had a 1,000 yard season a year before Reid came.
RIP Jim Johnson, best ever.
Cam Newton: future QB bust
That does not invalidate my point
at all.

Considering you were implying that Reid made Staley…yes, yes it does invalidate your point.
RIP Jim Johnson, best ever.

I did not imply that Reid made Staley
I only stated that Reid had 3 RBs who were considered to be top ones while he was their coach. In fact, he has really never not had a RB who was considered a top one, I believe. After a while, you have to wonder why the common demoniator is considered to be a man who doesn’t know the running game…

I think next year we need to rely on McCoy more..
He’s durable, he’s consistant and honestly he was our best player last season.
Defensive player of the year for 2011 is...
Wild_Eagle!
Yes, Wild_Eagle's infamous reputation did help him get this award. But he shows that he walks the talk that he serves...with his keyboard. Wild_Eagle protects the motherland (BGN) from the evils of noobs, douche-bags, and other assholes. Although he may be crude and unnecessary, all great defenders draws the yellow flag from time to time.

Well
he wasn’t our best player, but i agree that we should use him more. I feel like a broken record.

Then please, tell me who meant more to us than McCoy?
He was the only guy who produced every single game.. yes Vick was prolific, however when Vick had his bad moments who was it that stepped up?
Who closed out games against the Cowboys and Giants? Who pretty much kept us in that first redskins game?
I’d argue McCoy was our best player.

who was in the front running for MVP? Who broke multiple franchise and league records? Who was clearly the best player on the field at all times?
Every QB has their bad moments. McCoy isn’t AP or Chris Johnson or Michael Turner. They are all much better than him. I love McCoy, but we don’t rely on him enough to be considered our best player.

Jimmy and I had a pretty good discussion a week or so ago about McCoy.
I still believe he’s a product of Reid’s WCO. Teams gear up to stop the pass and Shady reaps the rewards of it.
He’s not a bad player. He, like Westy, does exactly what Reid needs him to do. But I still think he could be replaced with about 1/3rd of the starters in the league.
I would like to thank my hands for being so great, for allowing me to type this post.

You're wrong bud.
McCoy’s legit, if you don’t believe me watch the game where he closed it out in the 4th by running to the left side repeatedly (first giants game maybe?)
