I was reading Spuds' article on his latest interview with Reid and something Reid said got my attention:
"We think we have a good foundation and a good football team," said Reid. "The draft is the opportunity to get better, but you have to hit your mark. We have identified players we like in the draft, and we're going to keep looking at it until it is time to go. We aren't going to reach for a player or take a player at a position of perceived need. We're going to draft good football players who help this team win."
Most of what he said is expected, but I liked the little hint he threw in there about not taking "a player at a position of perceived need." The key word being "perceived." The Eagles might not perceive their biggest needs as what everyone outside the organization thinks it is. Maybe they don't feel that they have to go with the OL or CB like most mock drafts project them to.
But all this brings up an interesting question, if the Eagles aren't going to pick who most people think they are going to pick, then what are they going to do ? I surely wasn't expecting Graham last year or Maclin the year before. And I think we're probably going to be surprised again this year.
Can you guess who that 1st round pick is going to be ? Think outside the box a little bit, what position, what player is on their mind right now and where in the 1st round or maybe 2nd round. Andy said in that article that last year a couple weeks before the draft they "were closing in on Brandon," so who is that player this year ??
Take your best shot and see how close you can get. Guess right and win the respect and honor from your peers here. Time starts now, you must get your pick in before: 8 pm EST on Thursday, April 28th.
