Top 10 Eagles NFL Draft Busts #2 Quinton Caver
As we continue our countdown of the 10 biggest busts of the Andy Reid era, we find ourselves at yet another linebacker taken in the second round. Bust #2 was actually taken in Tom Modrak's final year running the draft before Andy Reid finally got final say. So this actually puts two of the three 2nd round LB busts on Modrak's resume... Probably why he was moved out.
Quinton Caver - 2001 - 2nd round 55th overall pick
Caver had prototypical size at 6-4, 241. He was a really good player at Arkansas where he garnered all SEC honors in his senior year. When he was picked some had him tabbed as the "next Jeremiah Trotter." However, he struggled to ever find a place with the Eagles and they gave up on him quick. After appearing in 11 games as a rookie and recording 11 tackles, he was released midway through his sophomore season.
Caver would go on to sign with the Chiefs and spend a few years on their special teams, where he was seen as a solid contributor. He left after three seasons in KC and spent some time with Dallas on special teams and has been out of the league since 2005.
For for their second round pick, the Eagles got one and a half seasons and 16 tackles from Quinton Caver.

Ha!
Im happy that you’re doing this list Jason because I don’t remember half these guys……. I guess thats why they’re on the list….
FLY #7 FLY !!!
This is why I never get too excited about the draft one way or the other
This guy looked like a great pick. Size, speed, agility, a strong track record against top-level competition. But he still flopped. Your odds of picking a great, or even good, player in the draft are only slightly better than your odds getting rich through chinchilla breeding.
Ha. I have a chinchilla.

Caver is the man who comes to mind immediately when I think “Eagles busts,” at least under Andy Reid. He wasn’t a #1, but that doesn’t change the fact that he was utterly terrible and contributed absolutely nothing.
So, to recap:
- Jack Ikegwuonu
- Billy McMullen
- Matt McCoy
- Bobbie Williams
- Barry Gardner
- Freddie Mitchell
- Tony Hunt
- Bryan Smith
- Quinton Caver
Looks about right. (Sure makes you hope they don’t pick LB in the second round this year, doesn’t it?)
I won’t spoil it, but it’s pretty obvious who the #1 is. Not that we didn’t know already.
(And yes, I know some smartass is going to respond with “Donovan McNabb.”)
