Obama Asked About NFL Labor Situation, Nails It
I have to hand it to our president, because I think he may have given the best response that a politician has ever given when asked about a sports labor situation. It's also the response that everyone says a politician should have made in reaction to whatever comment they do make.
He was asked whether he would or should intervene in the dispute between the owners and players to prevent the loss of next season. In short, his response was that he hopes they can figure it out themselves because "I've got a lot of other stuff to do."
"You’ve got owners, most of whom are worth close to $1 billion. You’ve got players who are making millions are dollars. My working assumption at a time when people are having to cut back, compromise and worry about making the mortgage and paying for their kids’ college education is that the two parties should be able to work it out without the President of the United States intervening," President Obama said.
"I’m a big football fan, but I also think for an industry that is making $9 billion a year in revenue, they can figure out how to divide it up in a sensible way and be true to their fans who are the ones who, obviously, allow for all of the money that they are making," the President continued. "My expectation and hope is that they will resolve it without me intervening, because it turns out I have got a lot of other stuff to do."
Bravo! He's absolutely right. He does have more important stuff to do and they should be able figure this out themselves. It's absurd that think that President should have to concern himself with solving a dispute between football players and owners.

If you don’t have an Eagles Point along with your critique of my post, then you won’t get a response back from me… I’m not wasting my energy on that anymore…

I’d like to hear Rahm Emmanuel’s comments on the situation. Probably not nearly as diplomatic as the Prez.
“Why don’t you F’n spoiled f’n babies take our f’n tampons and and figure this sh*t out so I can watch a goddamn football game next yea?. MotherF$%*!”

On the night after the 1996 election, “Emanuel was so angry at the president’s enemies that he stood up at a celebratory dinner with colleagues from the campaign, grabbed a steak knife and began rattling off a list of betrayers, shouting ‘Dead! … Dead! … Dead!’ and plunging the knife into the table after every name.”1011 Before Tony Blair gave a pro-Clinton speech during the impeachment crisis, Emanuel reportedly screamed to Blair’s face “Don’t fuck this up!” while Clinton was present; Blair and Clinton both burst into laughter.26
Emanuel has the best quotes
By the way, I can’t find his exact quote but John Boehner was asked a similar question and had a similar response. So at least these guys agree on something!

I remember sitting in the JFK airport a few years ago, waiting for my plane at the bar, watching as an entire panel of Congressmen either grilled or lobbed up softballs to Roger Clemens. It was one of the biggest wastes of taxpayer money I’ve ever seen.

For those who don't speak politician:
This means:
“I’m trying to get a maniacal dictator to leave Libya without resorting to military force or putting the UN’s nose out of joint. Football? Are you fucking kidding me?”
Thanks for the reminder that the world is a lot bigger than this shit, Mr. President.

Yeah, when a dictator is sending jets to attack his own people, I think the last think the president should worry about is football. (Especially when there’s oil at stake!!!)

Same here
Somethings just have to be put in perspective and I applaud the president for his comments
I’m no Obama fan, but he definitely is on the money here!

fan or not, yeah
you gotta agree that hes right on the money.
When I vote for POTUS, I’m looking for someone to be our Commander-in-Chief, to fix healthcare, and to move us back into the black financially.
I’m not looking for a guy with the entire Air Force at his command to babysit Millionaires.
Well done, Mr. President.

Well done, BGNers...
You guys have a very even-keeled response to the President’s comments. A lot of places would have been taking shots at Obama.
To be fair, Bush (who I’m not a fan of) was pretty cool when it came to sports, too. And so was Reagan.
Don't Sweat the Technique...
I'm surprised no one pulled out the clapping pic
of Truman Capote or Orson Welles or whoever that is (knows I’m way off)
Boom. Roasted. worked fine tho

He's not wrong
but boy does he sound narcissistic. Who is asking him to intervene? Why would he? What business is the NFL labor agreement of Obama’s other than from a fan perspective? Doesn’t make much sense to me. Also, I don’t love the guy, I don’t dislike him, but I’m pretty tired of hearing him always refer to himself as “the President of the United States.” Just say “I” or “me” bro. We know who you are.

He was asked if he should intervene by the reporter,
there’s nothing narcissistic about his response.
true, the reporter did apparently ask him.
I guess if I were the prez I would just be like “What? Why would I intervene? It has nothing to do with me.” Then move on.
