Michael Vick Moves Past DeMarcus Ware In Madden 12 Cover Tournament
EA Sports is running a bracket style tournament to decide the next guy on the cover of their Madden 12 video game. The company selected one player(or in Seattle's case the fans) from each team and seeded them. For the Eagles, Michael Vick was the representative and he was matched up with the Cowboy's DeMarcus Ware. Vick won easily with 76% of the vote. The only player to get a higher percentage of the vote in the first round was Matt Ryan, who was matched up with the obscure and somewhat head scratching choice of the Panthers' Jordan Gross.
Vick faces Texans' WR Andre Johnson in the next round. You have until next Monday to vote. Considering how the pro bowl voting went, I'd be mildly surprised if Michael Vick doesn't win this thing. He finished just behind Brady in the fan pro bowl voting, he's still tremendously popular among football fans and even moreso amongst Madden gamers.
The only thing that could probably keep Vick off the cover are the Eagles fans voting against him hoping to avoid the dreaded "Madden curse," even though it really hasn't been a factor in recent years. Troy Polamalu struggled with injuries the year he shared the cover with Larry Fitzgerald(who was totally healthy) but then again Polamalu has struggled with injuries for a while now. You really have to go back to 2007 when Shaun Alexander was on the cover to get a real good example of the so called "curse."

Jake Long, Jordan Gross, AND the 12th Man gone already?! C’mon. Those were three guys I were rooting for.
Stupid people are stupid.
RIP Jim Johnson, best ever.
Cam Newton: future QB bust
wait, 12th man is gone?
I was hoping we’d make it until the final 8.
More proof that fans have no influence.

I think the 12th man was a cool idea
I’m very disappointed they’re gone already.
What the fuck.
Also, if Vick doesn’t win, look for Aaron Rodgers.

Madden Curse
Drew Brees: Threw career high interceptions
Fitzy was fine but Polamalu was more injured than usual and played in only 5 games, the fewest of his career
Favre played for the Jets (sounds like a curse to me)
Vince Young is debatable I feel. He was pretty bad when he got put on the cover and he was even worse the following year. However, his career has pretty much gone off the rails.
Let the beasting begin.

Look up Madden 2004
Vick was on the cover.. released before the 03-04 season. Now go back a BGN post or 2, where Vick’s injuries are discussed… preseason he broke his leg and missed 11 games…

I heard the curse rotates..
The first time you’re on Madden cover you get bad luck, the 2nd time you win the Superbowl.
who has been on there twice

oh, come on.
those are all terrible examples. if you’re going to believe that there is a “curse” at least cite the times where players actually got hurt. Vick (2004), McNabb (2006), and Shaun Alexander (2007) are the best ones.
the curse isnt just injury...
It’s mostly career worst years for the damned… since major injuries tend to make them miss games their numbers are veal those years.

I was responding to Jason’s assertion that nobody has been “cursed” since 2007 with Shaun Alexander. And again, I point you to Troy Polamalu who missed a career worst 11 games.
Let the beasting begin.

Man, Vick’s gonna coast through the next two rounds. I’m voting against him mostly because if he’s on the cover, I’ll have to buy a copy.
I know right
We are going to have to buy that. Plus all the other shit we have to buy when we win the Super Bowl this year. I’m gonna be broke.
I nearly always end up buying 2 copies per year. One at launch, and the other around Januaryish because the first one actually gets played to death.

It’s annoying how Saints’ed out Madden 11 is. If there was a Madden covered in Cowboys logos and players I’d have to skip it. On the other hand I wouldn’t mind a Madden covered in Eagles stuff, but we already have some much bad karma I don’t think we need the Madden curse too.
Fly Eagles Fly, on the road to Vicktory!
Madden '11 is for noobs
Looking forward for the new one…

We're on a collison course
with Vick and A-Rod. They’re the two guys bound to meet in the finals. Personally, I love the Eagles but I’m going to vote for A-Rod over our QB because he deserves it more. Guy took it to us in the playoffs and then went on to become Super Bowl MVP. Maybe Vick gets there next year and then I’ll vote for him.
you know...
Every fan in our division is rooting for Vick, i.e. the curse….we’d have to get everybody to go back every day to vote against Vick…Only chance for him not to be on the cover would be for Rodgers, Ryan, or chance in hell AP beats him…Everyone should vote for AROD, SB MVP to get the cover….
"Eagles fans are a passionate group who love their team," said McNabb, "if not the actual players. It's not like winning a Super Bowl before the first month of the season is the hardest thing they've ever asked of me. That'd be all those times they asked me to go kill myself."

Peter King probably agrees.
But only because nobody would put Dustin Pedroia on the cover.

Yes. I’m rooting for him. He’s the funniest possible choice.

I play more NBA than Madden this time of year
If Vick gets the nod on the cover,I’d play it the whole year.
Rivals beware
I'm a Vick supporter
and I’m very impressed with what he has done both on and off the field since he has come back but I am surprised that they would consider putting him on the cover.
Cowboys suck.
Vick wont end up on the cover
I think they’ll try to put somebody new on the cover. Michael vick was already on the cover in 04. Mcnabb was on the cover of 06 I believe so. Putting another eagles qb on the cover wouldnt be too smart.
E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!
by Mikesta on Mar 28, 2011 11:33 PM EDT via mobile reply actions
why?
the guy is a marketing machine. consistently in top 3 jersey sales, the eagles broke many television records this year with him at qb, and he was #2 in pro bowl voting. If they didnt have this contest the only reason they wouldnt put him on there was the scrutiny from people still soft from what happened. Actually this makes it easier for them to do this knowing the “fans” voted on him.
