2011 Eagles Mock Draft and Offseason 2.0

2011 Eagles Mock Draft and Offseason 2.0 (Now with approximately 3,500 less words! No need for coffee and a comfy chair now!)

Alright folks, I'm back one more time to try and give this a shot. After evaluating the responses from the first one I put up, I re-tooled my draft strategy, changed up the Free Agents a little bit, and had the Final 53 and PS reflect the changes and input. Let me know what you think.

Free Agency

Jonathan Scott - OT - Pittsburgh

Backup at Left Tackle. Austin Howard and King Dunlap aren't going to cut it. Played extremely well for Pittsburgh when he was thrust into a starting role.

Manny Lawson - OLB - San Francisco

Starter at Strongside Linebacker. Played out of scheme in a 3-4 defense in San Francisco; should be able to thrive in a 4-3 defense, which the Eagles run.

Nnamdi Asomugha - CB - Oakland

Starter at Right Cornerback. Current Right Cornerback situation is deplorable; bringing in Asomugha would solve that problem immediately, for a few years.

Jermon Bushrod - OT - New Orleans

Starter at Right Tackle. Had a down year last year, but was a key cog during the Saints 2009 Super Bowl. Can likely be signed at a relatively cheap price.

Jason Snelling - FB - Atlanta

Starter at Fullback. Originally a Fullback for Virginia; used as a Running Back in Atlanta. Signs with the Eagles and can replace Owen Schmitt at Fullback.

Bruce Gradkowski - QB - Oakland

Backup at Quarterback. Solid veteran backup in case Vick goes down with injury; could possibly be to Michael Vick what Jeff Garcia was for Donovan McNabb.

As for the Eagles own Free Agents -

Eagles bring back Michael Vick, David Akers, Max Jean-Gilles, Sav Rocca, Akeem Jordan, and Stewart Bradley, and give DeSean Jackson an extension as well.

Trades

Brodrick Bunkley to Denver for Round 3 (3)

Denver needs DTs; and it's unlikely that they'll all come through the draft. Bunkley is likely trade bait, and for the right price, the Eagles might deal.

Kevin Kolb + Round 3 (21) to Arizona for Round 1 (5)

Arizona desperately needs a starting QB. Problem solved, and Arizona gets an extra 3rd rounder as well. Eagles move up to grab a Top 10 Defensive player.

Round 1 (23) + Round 4 (23) to Buffalo for Round 2 (2) + Round 3 (4) + Round 7 (3)

Buffalo will likely want to move up to grab a highly rated offensive lineman, or a QB, depending on what they do with the 3rd Overall pick in the draft.

Notes:

First, I'd like to say thanks to the people who sent out condolences; Lesean25, DickMuffin, henry-dekoeyer-eagle-fan, wild_eagle, and WarGeist. Much appreciated.

As far as Bunkley is concerned, I realize that he could potentially perform to his first round status with Washburn here, but with Patterson being signed through 2016, and Dixon's astounding play after taking over Bunkley's RDT spot, I feel like Bunkley is the odd man out right now. Plus, I really like Stephen Paea as a prospect.

I really like Quentin Davie, the LB out of Northwestern. He would be my potential "7th Round Surprise", like Kurt Coleman from last year. Would the Eagles take 7 LBs onto the active roster though?

I wonder how the David Akers situation plays out. If worse comes to worst, the Eagles might be looking at drafting a Kicker sooner rather than later.

I had a tough time figuring out who the Eagles should draft with the 5th Overall Pick: Patrick Peterson, Von Miller, or Robert Quinn. In my opinion, each player would have their own set of pros and cons. For the sake of this draft, I went with Robert Quinn, the DE out of North Carolina. I took Quinn because of the Asomugha signing, Graham's injury, and the Eagles general love of taking D-Linemen. That said, it would seem a bit dubious to take a DE in the first round two years in a row. Who would you take with the 5th overall pick?

EDIT: Well, with the obvious overwhelming favor of drafting Patrick Peterson with the 5th Overall Pick so far, I'll go ahead and make this little...addendum, if you will.

*Instead of Nnamdi Asomugha, the Eagles would likely sign someone like Richard Marshall, Josh Wilson, or even Fabian Washington. I'll go with Washington on this on.

*Eagles would go ahead and draft Patrick Peterson with the 5th Overall Pick, which would mean that there would be no need for Ras-I Dowling at the 3(4) pick, so I would draft a DE, like Pierre Allen or Christian Ballard. I'll go with Pierre Allen on this one.

With that being the case, just replace Robert Quinn with Pierre Allen, Nnamdi Asomugha with Patrick Peterson, and Ras-I Dowling with Fabian Washington. Bang. New 53-man roster.
