2011 BGN Community Mock Draft Pick #26: The Baltimore Ravens
With the twenty-sixth pick in the 2011 BGN Draft, Udalango selects...
Torrey Smith - WR, Maryland
With the loss of T.J. Houshmandzadeh, the Ravens are going to need a new wideout to help Joe Flacco. Torrey Smith is a nice fast receiver who will be able to stretch the field.
Pros
-Fast receiver especially for over someone over 6 feet tall
-Is able to change direction quickly has great agility
-Good body control
-Dangerous kickoff returner.....however useful that will be now
-Very versatile, can be used at the X, Z, or out of the slotCons
-Needs some help on his route running
-Catches with the body too often
-Rarely goes over the middle
More after the jump...
With the acquisition of Smith, the Ravens would be getting a deep ball threat to stretch out the field and give Flacco's arm some work. Smith is quick off the snap and can use his speed to terrorize opposing DBs. With Anquan Boldin there, he wouldn't need to be the number-one wideout so he could focus on making his game complete enough to be the number one when the time comes.
Next on the clock will be Skulman7 with the Atlanta Falcons.
Previous Picks: 1 - Nick Fairley 2 - Patrick Peterson 3 - Blaine Gabbert 4 - Cam Newton 5 - Von Miller 6 - Marcell Dareus 7 - Prince Amukamara 8 - A.J. Green 9 - Da'Quan Bowers 10 - Corey Liuget 11 - Robert Quinn 12 - Julio Jones 13 - Tyron Smith 14 - Jimmy Smith 15 - Mark Ingram 16 - Cameron Jordan 17 - Ryan Kerrigan 18 - Anthony Castonzo 19 - Mike Pouncey 20 - Adrian Clayborn 21 - Phil Taylor 22- Stephen Paea 23 - Brandon Harris 24 - Aldon Smith 25 - Gabe Carimi

Don't see them taking a receiver.
More likely seeing them taking Nate Soldier to replace Jared Gather. (Speaking of which, how is Soldier still on the board?)
RIP Jim Johnson, best ever.
Cam Newton: future QB bust
He isn’t that good? Just throwing that out there…

I’ll keep saying it. I think he’s going to fall quite a bit.

I like it. The Ravens offense really needs an explosive element added to it, they’ve got Joe Flacco who has a cannon but no one for him to sling it to. Down the stretch they really could’ve used a deep threat like Smith. Plus Smith is a great return man.

Anquan Boldin ?
Im tired of people maing excuses for Flacco. He’s a good QB, but they have dressed him up with two good RBs, a better O-line and the likes of Boldin, Mason and Houshmandzadeh and he still couldn’t make the offense elite. It’s like the McNabb excuse “didnt have enough weapoins.” at some point, you just have to say, Flacco is not taking the last step to becoming an elite qb

Anquan Boldin is 30 and he is anything but dynamic. He is a good possession receiver but he doesn’t scare any defenses. Boldin is lucky if he is a top 30 receiver at this point. The whole point is that the Ravens need an explosive option on their offense because having a bunch of ball control running backs (i.e. not explosive) and old possession receivers doesn’t make for a very scary offense.

Posession WR?
First off, 30 is just about when a WR hits a prime, many of the great WRs have had their best years at the age of 30 they are not like RBs.
Boldin is a top WR, and is absolutely a “#1”
JoeD AKA The Voice Of Reason
Boldin is a quickly aging possession receiver who cannot stretch a defense, he is not a complete receiver and is quickly becoming a #2 caliber receiver.

If you watches their playoff loss, the receivers were dropping balls left and right.

which doesn't say anything
jason avant and djack in the same game dropped multiple TDs against the Giants. It doesn’t make either of them bad

Are the Raven's for sure letting T.J. Houshmandzadeh go?
Also JJ Watt here would have been a fantastic move, fortifying that DL for the Ravens makes Ray Lewis and Co.’s job much easier. Plus, that DL is going up in age. Starters Kelly Greg is 34 and Corey Redding is 30.

Am I missing something?
Or is JJ Watt still on the board? WHY IS HE STILL ON THE BOARD??? Are people just looking at other mock drafts and picking someone who others have projected to take him, instead of looking at how this draft actually went?
