Around SBN: NFL Players Ready To Welcome Gay Teammate

The All-Andy Reid Free Agent Team

Urhsker issued the challenge, and I haven't posted in a while...looks like it's time for Uncle Jaws to step up to the plate.

Star-divide

QB - Michael Vick (Reinstated by the NFL in 2009, making him a free agent)

Jeff Garcia (Signed in 2006 as a backup to Donovan McNabb)

RB - Dorsey Levens (First signed in 2002 and again in 2004, after an injury to backup RB Correll Buckhalter)

FB - Jon Ritchie (Signed in 2003)

Owen Schmitt (Signed in 2010 to replace the injured Leonard Weaver)

WR - Kevin Curtis (Was good for one season, signed in 2007)

James Thrash (Signed as an undrafted free agent in 1997; re-signed in 2001)

TE - Matt Schobel (Signed in 2006)

OT - Jon Runyan (Signed in 2000)

G - Nick Cole (Signed as an undrafted free agent in 2006; if you can come up with someone better, go ahead)

C - Hank Fraley (Claimed off waivers in 2000)

DE - Jevon Kearse (Signed in 2004)

         Juqua Parker (Signed in 2005)

DT - Darwin Walker (Claimed off waivers in 2000)

MLB - Jeremiah Trotter (Originally drafted in 1998; re-signed in 2004 after two-year stint with Redskins)

OLB - Dhani Jones (Not a great option, but I can't think of one better, signed in 2004)

CB - Asante Samuel (Signed in 2008)

S - Quintin Mikell (Signed as an undrafted free agent in 2003)

K- David Akers (Claimed off waivers in 1999)

Well, there's my list.  If I made any mistakes or left anyone out, feel free to speak up.

OLB

Carlos Emmons (free agent 2000) was a much better signing than Dhani Jones at OLB.

Also, I think the Parker signing was way better than Kearse. In the relation of productivity to contract value there is no comparison between the two.

You could probably also add DT Antonio Dixon to the list although it may be too soon to really measure him.

Good Call

I completely forgot about Emmons.

Shawn Barber and Nate Wayne are two other possible LB options I believe.

Also, may have to put A. Dixon in there sometime soon too if he keeps developing

Wasn’t Hugh Douglas a free agent acquisition? I would take him over Parker

I wanted to put the Weave on there

That injury of his just bums me out so much. He does deserve a spot though. That said, don’t get too down on Owen Schmitt, he may not be a complete package like Weaver is, but I thought he played pretty well last season. He’s really not that bad as a receiving back.

I know, brother

my favorite positions are FB for offense and Safety for defense… total thankless jobs… or at least safety was until Dawkins reinvented the position.

I like them both, i like Owen’s effort, but Leonard is just plain better.

and I don't care so much about FBs catching so much-

They need to block, and open holes… that’s their job.

Goal-line plunges are good too.

I hear you

But this is a Cap’n Andy offense, and In a Cap’n Andy offense, by Christ, we THROW the ball! lol. By the way…remind me what a goal-line plunge is, I don’t believe I’ve witnessed one from this team since I was in high school lol.

Nope.. He was a FA signing.

Defensive player of the year for 2011 is...

Wild_Eagle!

Yes, Wild_Eagle's infamous reputation did help him get this award. But he shows that he walks the talk that he serves...with his keyboard. Wild_Eagle protects the motherland (BGN) from the evils of noobs, douche-bags, and other assholes. Although he may be crude and unnecessary, all great defenders draws the yellow flag from time to time.

Question

Will there be the all-star free agent bust league. Levon Kirkland and Takeo Spikes could use some love.

by MidwesternEaglesfan on Mar 23, 2011 8:33 PM EDT reply actions

Surely Nick Cole can’t be the best FA OG the Eagles have signed… Can’t you just kick Jason Peters inside for the sake of having a decent roster?

by Brit Bill on Mar 24, 2011 6:17 AM EDT reply actions

I searched high and low

Andy drafted John Welbourn and Doug Brzezinski in 1999, Jermane Mayberry was already here by the time he arrived (and Ray Rhodes drafted him anyway), and Andy drafted Todd Herremans and Shawn Andrews. The only two significant free agent signings at guard were Cole and (shudder) Stacy Andrews. Cole may not be very good, but he was more reliable than the older half of the Brothers Andrews.

Jamaal Jackson was an undrafted FA
I would take Alex Smith over Matt Schoebel (the tallest midget in this group is debatable)
Antonio Freeman was ok his first year
Sav Rocca

What was the name of that 38 year DT we signed a few years ago?

Who's Been Eatin' Hummus?

She passed wind, excused herself, and sponged off in the corner as I sat dazed and confused...
