Eagladelphia had a great question in one of the other threads, but declined to make a fanpost about it while giving Electric and myself the opportunity to write it up and roll with it. So I want to make sure he gets his credit for the idea, I'll put it into fanpost form I guess.
The question is...
(Note: This is for the upcoming draft, not any NFL player. I mean just the 2011 prospects.)
If you could pick any player in the first round, or any player at all actually, who would you take? Why would you take them? How would they fit with the Eagles?
Now this is for fun, I don't want to see people flipping out on others (I know I'll probably be the first to break this rule) so let's just go into detail and kill some time... But next here's my choice:
If you could pick any player in the first round, or any player at all actually, who would you take?
Simple, I'd take Cam Newton.
Why would you take them?
Newton is the most talented player coming into this draft. He's a big guy at 6'6 250 lbs, he's a fast guy who has been rumored to be clocked as fast as 4.42 in the 40 yard dash, and he's strong, just look how he finishes plays. Newton is a fairly accurate QB who has thrown a ball through the air 70 yards from release to catch, I believe we love QB's who can do stuff like that. Look at what we have had as a QB in the Reid era, I don't see how people don't see Cam as a fit with the Eagles. He's Vick with size, although I'd compare him to a less chokey McNabb.
How would they fit with the Eagles?
Cam would sit for a year behind Vick. He needs to get his mechanics right, watching him play this past year he would have flawless mechanics one series, then have a couple of bad throws due to his throwing motion, I don't see a fix for this taking longer than a year, and that year will also help him learn the system, learn from Vick, learn how to act as an NFL player in a very professional and young locker room...
After that year he'll be our starting QB, and will have 2 WR's he cannot over throw, most likely a solid-great Offensive line and will be able to extend plays like Vick and McNabb did for us.
