Around SBN: NFL Players Ready To Welcome Gay Teammate

A look at our free agents

K David Akers- I know he missed those kicks in the Packers game, but he was going through a lot at the time, and was a great kicker this year. He was a ProBowler, and except for the Atlanta game, didn't really make any mistakes. Must re-sign him.

LB Stewart Bradley- I say we should let Chaney be the starting MLB, and then move Bradley to the outside, instead of Sims. Re-sign him.

G/C Nick Cole- I don't think we should re-sign him. He didn't play that great this year.

LB Omar Gaither- He really only played special teams this year, and we really don't need him for line backer. Let him walk.

RB Jerome Harrison- I think we should definitely re-sign him. He was a pretty good back up. He had the 50 yard run in Washington, and played pretty good in the Cowboys game. Must re-sign him.

CB Ellis Hobbs- It's been rumored that he is going to retire after his second season-ending neck injury. He was replaced in the middle of the season by Dimitri Patterson at cornerback, who, besides a few games, didn't really play any better. Ehhh... release him.

G Max Jean-Gilles- I think that we should keep him. He could be a good backup. Re-sign him.

LB Akeem Jorden- I don't know. He was a starting LB, and now he is just playing special teams.

DE Bobby McCray- Release him.

S Quinten Mikell- We HAVE TO RE-SIGN HIM! He has done GREAT this year, and to some regarded the best safety in the league. Must re-sign him. However, if we do choose to let him go, a viable replacement is FS Michael Huff.

CB Dimitri Patterson- I don't think we should keep him. Besides the Redskins game, he really didn't do well in any other games. We need to get a new RCB via free agency or draft.

P Sav Rocca- Re-sign him.

LB Ernie Sims- He played horribly this year. I don't think we should have ever gotten him. Release him.

QB Michael Vick- ProBowler, SuperStar, was in the MVP race for a while. I do think Kolb is good, but Vick is elite. We must keep him, and it's been said we'll franchise him.

G Reggie Wells- Was a backup with limited action, didn't really do much. Release him.

Hmm...

K David Akers- I think he’s going to retire.

LB Stewart Bradley- I fear that he is done.

G/C Nick Cole-Bye.

LB Omar Gaither- Bye

RB Jerome Harrison- He needs to get 10-12 carries a game.

CB Ellis Hobbs- I don’t like Ellis as a player, but he is a good person.

G Max Jean-Gilles- Bye. Finally.

LB Akeem Jorden-Bye.

DE Bobby McCray- Who?

S Quinten Mikell- We should resign him.

CB Dimitri Patterson- I will help you pack and drive the U-Haul to the CFL city of your choice.

P Sav Rocca- Re-sign him.

LB Ernie Sims- Release him. Sign him back. Then cut him again to emphasize the point.

Not a free agent—
QB Kevin Kolb—The quicker he’s out of here for whatever we can get, the better.

Quienton Mikell regarded by some as the best safety in the league?

Says who?!!! Dont get me wrong, he is an above average safety and a good leader on the field, but best in the league, Hell no!!!

by d-jac and j-mac on Feb 1, 2011 9:25 PM EST reply actions

I like Mikell alot

He’s not the best safty in the league though. Dont get me wrong. He is damn good.

now on the Eagles resigning Mikells . I just have a feeling there not going to. over 30

Now I dont agree with this . But its almost a golden rule in the Eagles FO. Do they pick up someone to take his place. NOPE, because thats how they role. I waiting to here this. I think we are good at the s position.

Does that make Polamalu the best Safety on the Planet????

Polaamalu

"What a gorgeous dog. What do you feed him?"

by waterfield on Feb 3, 2011 2:42 PM EST up reply actions

i dont think so either but i have heard that..

Wouldn’t put him up with names like ed reed, polamalu, landry, etc. But he is a very good safety, and I feel that we need to keep him. He is very underrated for the most part, and plays a bit of a leadership role. If the eagles are serious about being contenders on d then I suggest they resign both him and stew, who will be much much better this year barring injury, just watch. Also we have to add a pro bowl caliber player (not going to beat a dead horse on this one). Move stew to will, leave chaney at middle. Fokou is also very servicable at SAM. Would like to see us add some more depth to the LB core as a whole tho just in case.

by P_Roach17 on Feb 3, 2011 2:53 PM EST up reply actions

I think Fouku did a nice job at SAM. There’s no point in moving Bradley there.

I cant say get rid of Bradley yet

Look who his coach was for the last couple years. Sign him, then trade him later if he dont work out.

by greenage on Feb 1, 2011 10:38 PM EST up reply actions

Stew in the SAM
Chaney to MLB
Foku in WILL
I think those group of players could do good things

by Phourth_Horseman on Feb 1, 2011 10:55 PM EST via mobile up reply actions   1 recs

But do you really want to risk moving Fokou to WILL?

He’s basically now got two seasons of starting experience under his belt as our SAM, and he’s been very impressive in that spot for a seventh round draft pick. Of all of our current linebackers, he’s started more games than anyone else over the past two years. Even if he’ll probably never be a Pro Bowl caliber LB (though there’s definitely still time for him to improve), I appreciate the stability Fokou has brought to a position that we really struggled to fill before he arrived. Who knows how effective he would be at WILL? He’s never even played there.

My choice would be to cut Sims and bring in someone new to play WILL, keep Fokou at SAM and let Chaney and Bradley compete for the MIKE spot in training camp. Or, if the FO can’t spare the money to re-sign him, maybe just let Bradley go.

by licensetochill on Feb 2, 2011 1:31 PM EST up reply actions

I understand about fokou not wanting to move him he hasn’t played bad at all. I don’t know why but I have this gut feeling about Stew and something is telling me that he will be playing at an extremely high level the next few seasons.

by Phourth_Horseman on Feb 2, 2011 3:23 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Honestly Chaney hasn't shown enough to be a starter yet.

he did have some good stats, but to be honest he needs to chunk up a bit and learn the game, pure instict can only take you so far.

Fokou deserves his spot at SAM, it’s where all of his playing time has been at.

we def.......

need 2 keep stu around, if not 4 nuttin just because he need a LB with a lil size

by goldenbird09 on Feb 3, 2011 7:36 AM EST up reply actions

Sims sucks, but Bradley can't play WILL.

His coverage skills were almost nonexistent this year, so Bradley doesn’t fit there. I could see him as a MIKE or SAM, but I honestly prefer Chaney and Fokou in those spots. Bradley might be worth re-signing as a backup, or to provide competition in training camp… but I think his days as a starter are over.

As for Sims, we can’t cut that guy fast enough.

by licensetochill on Feb 1, 2011 9:44 PM EST reply actions

Patterson also played well against the Colts

I still think we should keep him as a backup

may just be a matter of opinion

But buckleys done a good job on special teams. That’s why he’s still around. I’ve even seen him force a fumble or 2, definitely one at the end of this past season. Tho I can’t remember exactly which game. I vote keep Buck, but wave goodbye to hanson

Akers

should be near the top of the list. A good consistant kicker is pretty important. It is not sexy or flashy but it is a huge part of the game and he is still easily a top 5 kicker. I also like Harrison, I think he could fill in nicely if Shady goes down. Bradley is a tough one. He has been injury prone but remember the promise he showed before the knee injury and he did seem to improve as the year went on until the elbow injury.

Cowboys suck.

Nick Collins id agree is neck and neck with Mikell

LOL at Merriweather. I think he made more hits on his own teammates this year than the opponents. Clearly you’ve never seen Merriweather play this year. He was possibly the third best safety on the patriots this year behind Pat Chung and James Sanders.

He’s got some better physical skills than Mikell, but no leadership/professionalism.

On this D this year Mikell was a godsend. Who else was there to help orient the young DBs?
Not that the results were good enough, but they could have been worse, if not for Mikell.

Had lots of picks his rookie year, good for him and good for the Bills, but he fell off in 2010, so he is last years news.

Jarius Byrd I’m not so familiar with. He may be a fucking demon.

michael griffin did not have a very good season.. hence the Titans being like 30th against the pass

Berry struggled at times throughout the year, Malcolm Jenkins was good but not better than Mikell. And byrd had a down year I thought

by P_Roach17 on Feb 3, 2011 3:06 PM EST up reply actions

Akers- resign him. he was good most of the year and there’s nothing worse than being unsure about the kicker you bring into the game. it’s a surprise to me when he misses.

Stew- as much as I hate to say it, Stew scares me. When he was younger he was one of my favorite players but he’s been bad. I don’t think moving him to the outside would solve anything.

Nick Cole- Eh, I could go either way. I’d rather resign Max if it came down to it.

Omar Gaither- Release him, I can’t even remember seeing 96 all season.

Jerome Harrison- Definately resign him. What a trade.

Hobbs- Never a fan. He looked awful while I was at training camp and he kept up the trend.

Max Jean-Gilles- I’d like to resign him. Servicable backup.

Akeem Jordan- I always liked Jordan. I would like to see them resign him because our lnebackers are always plagued with injury.

McCray- Release

Mikell- Absolutely resign him. I wouldn’t say he’s the best in the league by any means, but he quarterbacks the defense and he had a really good year. I love the combination of Q and Nate.

Patterson- I’d like to resign him. I know he looked pathetic sometimes but I feel like he has more room for improvement than Hobbs. I’d like to see him dust himself off and comeback as our nickleback (after we sign a certain CB via FA)

Rocca- Eh… everytime he has a bad punt i scream cut him. But after we juggled terrible punters a few yeas ago I’d hate to see who would be brought in to fill the void.

Ernie Sims- good god get rid of him. I was so excited over this trade and ernie looked like a child out there.

Mike Vick- not even a question… I’ve often said I’m not a fan of this style QB but mike took a step away from the Randall Cunningham style and towards Steve Young. If he takes another big step in that direction I’d be content.

Wells- another disapointing move. Release him.

by Q27 on Feb 2, 2011 9:33 AM EST reply actions

Akers

That would be a huge loss. Finding a reliable kicker is almost a crap shoot.
That said, I’m not trying to minimize his personal issues. The guy needs to do what’s best for him and his family and that looks like it might be retiring.
If he retires, the Eagles should look at Mike Vanderjagt.

Keep Patterson

Cut Hanson. Patterson would still be a better start if needed, and he’s great on STs.

by Mc5 on Feb 2, 2011 1:21 PM EST reply actions

Bring in a High end CB through the draft or FA

Draft a project practice squad type guy in the 4-5 and use him as insurance.
Have lindley and Patterson compete for the #3

by stash600 on Feb 2, 2011 3:04 PM EST up reply actions

You’re replacing both Hanson and Hobbs, you can keep Patterson and sign a FA, and still have the option of drafting somebody by cutting Gerard Lawson/Jorrick Calvin. Patterson is also S depth.

by Mc5 on Feb 2, 2011 7:59 PM EST up reply actions

Pretty much agree with all your assessments except Patterson. He was a good STer before he was thrown into starting RCB role. If we get Nnamdi, or a strong draft pick, Patterson gives us value as a gunner/backup/nickel corner.
