Trent Cole told reporters today that he has been fined $7,500, pretty light by NFL standards, for his MMA style takedown of Seahawks OT Russell Okung, who tore his pectoral on the play and is now out for the season. Seahawks fans were understandably outraged by what they saw as a cheap shot, while Eagles fan not surprisingly didn't think it was an excessively violent play. The guys were both engaged in a block, the whistle was blowing literally at the moment it happened and while it wasn't necessary to flip the guy, it was mostly just bad luck that Okung was injured on the play. If you look at it, it doesn't appear to be the type of play that ends a guy's season. You see guys getting slammed to the ground every single down in the NFL and unless it's a QB, nothing ever is done about it.
