The Linc - Dick Vermeil On Reid, Donovan's Decline

Vermeil Says Reid Not Burned Out, Not Getting Fired
The former Eagles coach says that fan frustration shouldn't play a role in whether Andy Reid stays or goes. Vermeil says that Reid is as good a coach as ever.

Donovan's Decline | National Football Post
The career of one of the NFL’s most celebrated quarterbacks in the past decade may have come to a quiet close last week. The Minnesota VikingsDonovan McNabb’s third team in the last 19 months – granted McNabb his freedom, placing him on waivers Thursday. McNabb – who went unclaimed – now waits for a call from a new team, a call that may or may not come this season or even next.

Did Eagles celebrate division wins too much?
"We came out against the Giants and we executed pretty well," Jenkins said. "Then maybe we got too high off of that game. Maybe we didn’t approach the next game with the same intensity. You look at our record in our division and you look at our record against everyone else, and it looks like we’re not coming out with the same intensity in the regular games as we are in the division games."

Babin rips media, former Seahawks brass
"I just get a little frustrated with the lack of effort sometimes," Babin said of the media. "Do some homework, watch some tape, report the facts. Do we deserve to be talked about in a negative way? Yes, we’ve lost. But I just feel they should get it straight."

THE AMAZING thing about the Eagles right now is that they can actually still talk about making the playoffs with a straight face.

Welcome to Delusionalville. There’s no way in hell there is a single Eagles fan anywhere that can make a serious case for that. I really wish the media would shut up about it.

Also, Babin needs to shut his mouth. He thinks he’s good enough that he can speak for the team when he doesn’t care about the team- he cares about himself and his sacks.

I can't wait to hear...

Donvos excuse this time. I am kinda sad he’ll be gone, i got a kick outta hearing his whining all these years. Now that Philly, wash, twin cities AND the national media has “turned” on him i cant wait to hear him cry over this. Please ESPN i know you like picking up anyone who ever played and put them on tv but let this crybaby pass please.

God created the Eagles to train the faithful.

THAT is the biggest shocker to me

the national media was ALWAYS pro-mcnabb and bought into his whole “woe is me.” Now that the media doesn’t have the whole “Oh Philly are a bunhc of idiots who boo you no matter what,” to write about it seems they have been saying what we have been saying for awhile now “he’s washed up.”

and if mcnabb does whine, they won’t say “oh woe is donny, the fans are so mean,” they will actually eat him up this time… I am actually very surprised that mcnabb HASN"T came out and said anything yet

Yeah. They’re all better than the Eagles right now. At least the Redskins play like they care.

Everyone was playing better than us after the cards loss then they came out and beat down the giants physically. So with 2 divisional games left I fully expect us to finish 6-10. Thus maddening an already pissed off fanbase

I really don’t think they’re going to show up for another game this season. Maybe against Dallas if they can help knock them out of the playoffs, but unless the Redskins just completely suck (it’s possible), I expect them to lose that game as well.

The Jruth shall be told.

I think they might show up to the divisional games. But 4-12 wouldn’t shock me any more than 8-8 would

So very, very tired of having legacy Philadelphia sports figures’ telling me that Andy Reid is a good coach.

Vermeil says that Reid is as good a coach as ever.

What? Really Vermeil? This is the best Reid ever? After making one of the dumbest moves ever heard of? After blowing up his last playoff winning team and replacing them wiht, not veterans, but 4th-7th round rookies? What a bunch of crap!

Full offseason might have helped, with so many changes going on

But once the train went off the rails, there wasn’t much effort to get it back on track. Either the defensive scheme has been really bad at times, or the players are making a lot of mistakes. Probably more the former.

Perhaps in time, it will be realized how well Reid was able to play to McNabb’s strengths (and hide his flaws). I believe his lack of recent success has less to do with his declining skillset than it does with his ability to pick up a new system. I guarantee that if he remained with Philly over the past 2 years he would have produced respectable numbers.

I agree

This system was built for him.

The Birds are less the fighter who has gotten up from a knockout punch

and more a walking dead, a zombie team list of players waiting for the off season for a reshuffled deck.
