If you want DeSean Jackson gone...

  1. You want to take a step back with the offense?
  2. You want to lose the best NFL deep threat?
  3. You want to lose a dangerous special teams threat?
  4. You want attention to be drawn more towards Jeremy Maclin?
  5. Pay DeSean and he will play as he usually does...

Pay DeSean and he will play as he usually does…

You can read his mind?

Dude he gets concussed again he'll have serious issues

This dude needs his money he’s already been blasted and if it happens again he’s done for then no money for him.He plays with more risk than most, he’s built for speed not contact

I was always on the bandwagon of bringing Jackson back. I blamed the whole situation he was in this year on him and the FO. But I said before and I’ll say it again, I’d rather play with him than against.

Some people say he is either a big play or a decoy. If that’s the case, he may be the best decoy in the NFL because I never see him running with less than 2 people down field with him meaning someone is open underneath.

i really hope so

with asante pretty much gone for sure we should be able to pay him and shady. I would hate to see him go, and i’m sure vick and maclin and shady all feel the same way because he opens the field up for them so much. oh and celek too now that he’s eating the middle alive

You are grossly overrating him

His wussiness has cost him in every facet of his game, look at the rate stats. Best deep threat? Please. His yards per catch are the lowest since his rookie year his YAC are the lowest of his career. Dangerous in special teams? His average punt return is half of what it’s been the last two years, he didn’t even return one this season. He’s spent too much time waving that hand for a fair catch to be dangerous. Maclin is going to get attention anyway and despite a diminished Desean this year, reduced QB ability and his injuries, he’s putting up numbers at the same rate he has the first two years of his career. I don’t want to pay Jackson to continue to be a buffoon out there.

I would have agreed with you after last season. However this year he’s shown his true colors. He’s scared. He’s fair catching, he’s running out of bounds, he’s dropping sure TD’s faster than Pinkston did. If he wants to stay for a few million, sure, I’ll take him for the 700-900 yards and 3-6 TDs he’s capable of putting out, but I’d rather allocate money for Shady and Maclin and whomever else. There are a lot of good wideouts available in FA this off-season and a few good ones going into the draft. Desean as he is now post-Dunta, is VERY replaceable.

DeSean Jackson is t-46 in catches, 25th in yards, and t-73 in touchdown catches. I think he’s replaceable.

yup

Joe Banner is Evil Banners father. Kinda like Luke and Darth Vader.

Juan Castillo switching from the offensive line coach to Defensive coordinator is soooo dumb it might just work.

Our defense will not be a top 10 defense this year.

while I'd like to have him than play against him

Mike Wallace is the best (and most consistent) deep threat in the league. I think DJAX is a very good (not great) player but honestly, with the way Riley Copper makes catches and having Avant in the slot and us likely to take a guy in the 2nd or 3rd round, I’m pretty cool with him not being here. We could possibly trade our two 2nds for another 1st, so we could take the kid from Baylor and not miss a beat. Either way, Eagles are on the up-and-up after a year together.

This isn’t MLB where there’s no salary cap ton consider. If DeSean wants to sign a reasonable contract, then sure, bring him back. But if he’s looking for Larry Fitzgerald money (as he has previously stated), he ain’t getting it. We’re not the Raiders.

by JimmyK on Dec 25, 2011 2:04 AM EST via mobile reply actions

The Eagles should handle DeSean in the way that the Phillies handled Jimmy – don’t jump the gun and overpay him, but let the market play out. If someone’s going to pay him big bucks, I don’t want it to be us.

Your not accounting for the other stuff he does!!

by SKerwood on Dec 25, 2011 9:55 AM EST up reply actions

You mean his punt returns?

The average of which has been cut in HALF from his previous two seasons? Or how he protects Maclin? Desean wasn’t that great this year and Maclin STILL put up the same rate numbers he always has.

“The other stuff” really isn’t all that much these days. Expendable.

Ah yes

Recognizing a player for what he is, someone who statistically has gotten worse at everything, is now hating. Congrats world, this is what we’re down to, objectivity is now ‘hating’. I blame Jersey Shore, Teen Mom, Lady Gaga, the Kardashians and Jon and Kate.

honestly, there is no real right answer here...

the only thing right is 8.5 million and year and adding another 8.5 yards per punt return.

Jackson showed his value to the Eagles this year, and it isn’t much. Offer him $5M per year for 3 years. If he can do better, let him go, and draft a replacement in round 2.

Oh boy, is this great!

Desean

1. Offense will be fine since DeSean hasn’t been a factor. Even if the ball is thrown his way, he drops it.
2. He is not the best NFL deep threat.
3. Special Teams threat? This season he has run backwards or kicked it in to high gear to run out of bounds.
4. Even with more attention, with Maclin’s build/height, he is able to still catch the ball in traffic.
5. If DeSean wants to get paid like a top 20 receiver, that’s fine. Not a top 5.

With all of this said, I would like to see him settle for getting paid less and we can keep him. If we can’t, oh well. Chad Hall is a great replacement.
