Anyone here who might recognize this quote from "The Naked Gun" might appreciate how it applies to the Eagles at this time. Sure, the Eagles only have a low chance to make the playoffs, but if they do make it, well!
I found this little post over at Advanced NFL Stats where they looked at the high leverage games of the Eagles/Coyboys and Giants/Jets. Right now, the Eagles have only a 9% chance of making the playoffs, but if things break right this weekend, things look up quite a bit.
Interestingly, if the Giants win, it really doesn't matter who wins our game, as the post-season for the Boys and Giants will basically come down to their showdown the next week. Should the Giants lose, the Birds would have to beat Dallas, and then would have a relatively impressive 44% chance of making the playoffs, due to the fact they will be heavily favored to beat the Redskins the next week, and the Giants would be a slight favorite to win at home.
We all know this, of course, but what I found interesting was this little tidbit:
While the Eagles' chances at a playoff berth are slim, if they do make it into the playoffs they have a fairly decent shot at putting together a run, with a 30% chance of making it to the NFC Championship game (including a 6% probability of their first ever Super Bowl win.)
So, we have a 30% chance of making it to the NFC Championship, but only a 9% chance of that happening! Considering how our season looked 2 weeks ago, I'll take them odds!
