Castillo and Reid must go.
I hope this post will restore some sanity to what has been an apologist-fest around here at BGN. The facts of the situation (a 6-8 season) have left us clinging to false hopes of playoff glory and lionizing Reid and his incompetent friend (Juan Castillo) to the point where one could easily mistake the hapless Eagles for the Green Bay Packers or the New England Patriots.
Shortened offseason? Not enough time to gel? That's a bunch of pure unadulterated bullshit. Everyone had this shortened offseason. Were the Eagles the only ones on strike who were somehow in a unique position to not benefit from OTA's? No. But from reading these pages, people have swallowed the Nova Care propaganda hook, line and sinker.
6-8. Let it sink in. Six and motherfucking eight. That's not so hot for a team that is "all in." "But EvilBanner," the apologists cry, "Reid added so many new pieces." Yeah, he sure did. And those pieces were Cullen Jenkins, sack specialist Jason Babin and Nnamdi fucking Asomugha. They're pretty goddamn good. And fatandy, quite predictably, screwed it up. Did he not think that he'd need linebackers?
The sins of fatandy continue, of course. In a well-documented act of coaching malpractice, he names his "high motor" offensive line coach the defensive coordinator. This results in utter disaster, as is evidenced by historic fourth quarter collapses and a complete shitshow at home that drives three quarters of the fans to leave the goddamn Linc.
And now people praise him? For what? Thanks for nothing, Andy. Let's end the season on a high note by firing Reid and Castillo. Andy, no offense, but please GTFO and take Juan with you to San Diego.

Since you are the president of the apologists segment of BGN...
…I was eagerly awaiting your response!
God Damn you, Andy Reid.
Care to explain?
When have I ever said the Castillo should keep his job? I’ve said multiple times that I want Spags.
I’d be fine with firing Andy, but realistically who put there is better than Andy? If we could land a great up and coming coordinator I’d be perfectly okay with it.
To me it looks like you just want change for te sake of change. I just really don’t understand how you can hate a guy that’s only ha 2 losing seasons his whole career as a head coach.

exactly. juan is gone, but who are you gonna replace andy reid with? that’s a bit spoiled.

There's a good chance we're headed for number three
but given that one was his first year and he had just inherited Ray Rhodes’s team, and this one could still work out to 8-8, there’s also a good chance that two losing seasons might be too harsh a criticism.
Nope.

Since you’ve been slurping from Andy’s straw for many years I want to know do you hold his belly up or make him lay down to drink from it??? Seriously though you really think we’d be better off with someone else? I hear Spags and Morris will both be looking for new jobs at the end of the season. You know what would help your cause?
You need the Eagles to make the playoffs (Gasp).
That way we can win in the wild card and divisional handily. But then, once we get to the Conference Championship, we can lose and everyone will label the season as “same ol shit”. Then that will bring a lot of people back to the fire Reid Bandwagon.
But then, since neither will probably be fired during the offseason due to their late season resilience, and then if they are as bad as you think we will go through this shit again next year. And after that ordeal they will be fired. Then you can get on BGN and tell everyone that you “told them so”.
This scenario is as crazy as our playoffs hopes, but it just might work.

He had a black eye one day, but he wouldn’t say just what happened to him

"Andy, no offense"
I think you omitted the word ‘rush’ before offense. Pretty good story with only Juan error( aforementioned).

He goes to the Chargers and wins the SB immediately.
Then Philly will implode and Jeff Lurie will be thrown off the BF Bridge.

As painful as it is to say this, I would like to see what happens in the next two games. If the defense proves to be an illusion, then fuck the both of them. However if Juan has finally figured things out, and the previous two games actually are representative of his abilities, then I think we need to keep them.
AR should have to wear a Flava Flav necklace until he learns how to manage a clock.
I am the proud target of temper tantrums.
These next 2 games go a long way to determining fates. Unless the Eagles play like how they did against the Seahawks, Reid is going to be the HC no matter what. Juan even if the defense plays out well, I still don’t think he should be the DC. I think he should be a quality control guy and at the most a defensive assistant. I don’t trust him at all and have 0 faith in him even at this point.

No they don't-- are you talking about YARDAGE?
Look up their points scored and turnovers, braniac. Middling in the first category (and aided by 4 defensive TDs) and dead last in the latter.
This offense has been atrocious most of the season and is the reason the team is where it is now.
Defense should have never HAD a chance to blow games like SF and ARZ because the offense should have buried those teams so deep by the third quarter instead of stalling out and punting like a bunch of fags.
Let me get this straight it is Marty’s fault Vick passes are getting tipped then intercepted and our dumbass players can’t hold onto a ball without fumbling it?

Coleman isn’t a starting-caliber S in the NFL. For a guy who gets a lot of praise on here, it is almost completely unwarranted. Yeah he makes some nice tackles but he also has missed his share of tackles this year too taking too many bad angles & on some plays simply getting run over. He is also has generally struggled in pass coverage this year especially in zone. People will say ‘well he has 4 INTs.’ Big deal. 1 gift and one great game. That gives him 4 INTs total in his career.
5. He had a pick last year

But I believe that Reid should stay. We could try and get a new coach but we would most likely end up with a same if not worse record than this year. Reid gets fired. Replaced with Fisher. Fisher instantly gets rid of the pussy speed team image and builds a defense of hitters who give a shit. He also serves as his own DC.
Fisher, unlike Reid, takes a stud LB in the first round after the Eagles finish 6-10 and have that still good, but not as good as it would have been, pick.
Reid gets hired by San Diego and goes 6-10 in 2012.

Firing Reid without a better replacement is foolish. “It’s time for a change” and “anyone would be better” are pretty rock-solid arguments too. Firing Castillo I can agree with, but if the defense is solid for 2 more weeks, then maybe we see what he can do with an offseason and a good draft class. Unless a HC gets fired and we have a clearly better option who wants to come here.
I’ll bet you’re one of the guys who’s all, “Let’s sign Dawkins back!” as if it didn’t matter that he’s currently playing for another team.

A different outlook.......
Many Eagles fans seem to have short memories. It could be they haven’t been Eagles fans very long….they may have jumped on the bandwagon after supporting a losing team elsewhere….they aren’t loyal Eagles fans…or they don’t have the least bit understanding on what it takes to be a consistent winner with very few losing seasons.
Unlike many Eagles fans, I support Andy and Castillo 100%. Like many Eagles fans, I’m disappointed with the season too, but I also kept in the back of my mind that with incoming new coaches, new players, new schemes, that it could take a while for everything to jell. And I knew that Castillo was going to be under a microscope…..watched and criticized for his every move. But knowing the type of coach he is, I knew he was going to hang in there and eventually gain the players trust. That’s the type of OL coach he was. Just ask Tra Thomas and Jon Runyon.
In 13 years Andy has only had 3 losing seasons. His first year 1999 is was 5-11….the next year in 2000 11-5. In 2005 6-10, the next year in 2006 10-6. In 2007 8-8, the next year in 2008 9-6-1. After each losing season the Eagles made the playoffs. This has shown me that this dude always bounces back. In comparison, look at the Cowgirls and Redskins and the revolving door of coaches that they have had….and look at the number of times they have made the playoffs in the past 13 years.
I’m glad that Eagles fans are not apart of the decision making for the Eagles. Andy would have been gone several years ago, and who knows what kind of record they would have and who knows if there would have been any playoff appearances. This team is jelling now, playing good football and the players, especially on defense, now feel confident in Castillo’s schemes. Just ask them. Sure……it may be a bit too late for this year, but I guarantee you the next year this team will be a force to deal with….offensively and defensively, with Castillo still the DC. So get use to it Eagles fans, Castillo will be here next year and so will Andy. And……….they will be in the playoffs. Bounce back Andy will rule…….Just my opinion. Gooooooooooooo Eagles.

If they finish ugly, and go 6-10, Andy will step down. Andy’s replacement would then decide the fate of the rest of the coaching staff.
But Jeff Lurie isn’t going to fire Andy. Christina Lurie likes having a diverse defensive coordinator.
Then all the Andy bashers will get what they wanted. Jeff Lurie will hire Romeo Crennell as head coach. Because Romeo Crennell can win Superbowls as a head coach. Or something like that. Raheem Morris will be available. He fits the mold of what the Andy bashers want. Or Russ Grimm. These guys have “Superbowl within two years” written all over them. Yup.
Oh boy, is this great!

I have a lot of respect for yourself. And I think the fan base around BGN is undoubtedly too apologetic for the likes of the failure that satiated this year. It’s been a complete disaster, and there are not excuses to be made. Bringing the effing O-Line coach over to D-Coordinator is typical Andy, and he deserves the repercussions for the atrocity that it was.
However, I think Reid deserves one more shot, not based on excuse for this past year, but based on merit of his past “success.” What that success actually is, is truly objective, but in many’s minds he has done great things with the Eagles, and personally I think he’d done a B+ job in his tenure as coach before this year, all things considered.
I am also of the belief that Coaches over time develop negative tendencies that fester and exaggerate over time. I suspect Andy has developed some of these faults into his ability has a coach, but I’d trust him one more year in the Dream Team Regime based on purely his past merit, although I think the best solution is to limit his control and bring in a new regime for the Defense.
Thoughts?
I guess the glory that was the Philadelphia Eagles off-season counter-acts the dump that was the Flyers. Hmph.

After the bashing of the Cowgirls........
I support Andy and Castillo even more now. What I saw was a team that has finally come together…..and a defense that’s beginning to look really good. Yes……it has taken a long time. Longer than expected, but the players and coaches seem to be on the same page now. To get rid of Castillo would disrupt what has been accomplished, and bringing in a new DC would mean starting from scratch again. If the Eagles destroy the Redskins the same way they destroyed the Cowgirls, this team will be a force to deal with next season. This is a young team that’s going to be around for a while. The defense now has what I consider the best defensive end combo in the league in Babin and Cole. Both are in double digits in sacks for this year. The defense is now stopping the run and the DBs are playing well together. They now understand Castillo’s scheme and like playing in it. The scoring in the red zone seems to have been solved also. Why disrupt this now when things are clicking on all cyclinders? IF the Eagles had been lucky enough to make the playoffs at 8-8, they would probably have been favored in their first playoff game. How many 8-8 teams have been favored to win in the first round of the playoffs? This is now a potent team. Don’t disrupt the chemistry now or it’s back to square one and next year could be even worse. And I bet the Eagles will be favored next season to win the NFC East……………………Just my opinion.
Gooooooooooooooooooo Eagles………
