I waited until tonight's failure against the Seattle Seahawks to be over before I made this post because I wanted to decide who I should pick on to be the topic of discussion, and that fool is Nate Allen. Rightfully so I'm talking about him because he is the starting Free Safety and his responsibility is to not let anything get behind him and he has failed that job up to this point with miss tackles, bad coverage and just overall dumbfounded activity on the field.
Nate Allen as a rookie was good. Had 3 interceptions, earned September Rookie of the month back in 2010, and played fairly well as a cover safety before getting hurt and placed on IR with a knee injury. Granted his first couple of games back he wasn't full go and they worked him in sparingly this year but eventually merged into the starting line up after the failed Jarrad Page experiment and for the most part played better than him but not really like the Nate Allen we were all hoping for. The past 2 games, ESPECIALLY(Patriots and Seahawks), Allen has looked atrocious in every facet of the game. I am certainly disappointed with his level of play at this point and it is sad that Kurt Coleman, drafted the same year as Allen 5 rounds later, is outplaying him right now.
Personally I would have to say that Allen gets demoted to Special Teams, unless he has an immaculate offseason in 2012, and that we draft someone else with potential (only person I could think of is Mark Barron but he will probably go in the first or second round and we need a LB) or find someone via trade unless Jaiquawn Jarrett steps up and starts playing like we thought he would.I have nothing more to say so all of you be the judges, do you think his knee was bothering him that much this year that he couldn't get it together or is he looking to fit the description of a bust?
