LeSean McCoy Sets Record As Eagles Crush Jets 45-19
The Eagles blew out the Jets 45-19 Sunday evening at the Linc in a game that was pretty much never in doubt. After going just 1-5 at home prior to this game, the Eagles handed the paying customers a pretty nice Christmas present with this one.
The Eagles jumped out to a 28-0 lead before the game was even halfway through the second quarter. The Jets would score 13 unanswered to end the first half, but the Eagles put up another 17 in the second half to erase what little doubt there may have been. The big story from the game will be the record breaking effort from LeSean McCoy, who rushed for 102 yards and three TDs. His second TD broke the Eagles single season records for both rushing TDs and total TDs, both of which have stood for 66 years. McCoy's 20 total TDs leads the NFL.
Shady has another Eagles record within his sights as well, with another 239 yards over the next two weeks, he'll surpass Wilbert Montgomery's franchise record of 1,512. Even if he doesn't reach that one however, this has to go down as arguably the greatest single season by an Eagles back. Just to put McCoy's season into perspective, he is one of just four players in NFL history to record 19 TDs in a season before their 24th birthday. The others are Eric Dickerson, Gale Sayers and Emmit Smith... all hall of famers.
Speaking of other NFL leaders, Jason Babin collected three more sacks to put his total at 18, which also leads the NFL. He's a half sack ahead of Jared Allen, who was shut out today against the Saints. Babin is also just 3 sacks shy of Reggie White's single season franchise record. Granted, Reggie got his 21 sacks in a strike shortened, 12 game season, but the pass rushing effort we've seen from Babin this year is something special.
It was a great effort all around by an inspired Eagles team. You can only wonder what may have been if they had started playing like this earlier. Still, their playoff hopes are certainly more alive than they were when the day began. They were eliminated from the wildcard today, but the NFC East became that much tighter. The Giants blowout loss to the Redskins means that the Eagles path to the postseason is pretty clear.
They need to beat both the Cowboys and Redskins to finish the year. They need the Jets to beat the Giants next week and they need the Giants to beat Dallas the following week. In that scenario, the Eagles would finish 8-8 and win all tiebreakers. It's a longshot for sure, but it's a shot.

Tip of the cap to the LBs today
They made a few miscues in pass coverage but they were pretty solid vs. run today & they made a couple of really nice plays to largely put the clamp on the Jets’ screen plays.
Matthews actually showed he is capable of being an NFL player and Hunt has given them a really nice lift the last 2 weeks.
Definitely nice to see Matthews in there making some tackles for sure

I love the way our D has been playing we’ve dominated two teams that were pretty hot coming into the game these past two weeks. I’ve got to give it to Juan and Wahburn. They’ve added some pretty interesting wrinkles into the playbook.

They have played well but the have gotten out to big leads where teams had to pass a fair amount & couldn’t play to their strengths.
That’s how this team was built. To put up points and stop the pass.

Credit where credit is due, but that’s not enough to save Juan’s job IMO. Especially when you can get an upgrade such as a Spags, Raheem Morris, Del Rio, etc.

I don’t know. I would love to have Spags back, too, but Andy might wait to see what happens these next two games. I think he might see it as an admission of failure if he dumps Juan a year after dumping McDermott.

I personally have never understood this logic though; heads don’t need to roll simply for the sake of it. If the defense plays like this consistently from here on out, and Juan is a part of that… frankly I don’t care what happened in weeks 1-12, so long as going forward this is what we can expect. We have two more games to go – there will be a lot more to write about when those two games are behind us.
It’s not just for the sake of it. It’s because this team has underachieved, and there are more qualified people than Juan Castillo to be the Eagles DC, imo.

This defense is so all over the board, that when they play well, its almost like they do it in spite of him, not because of him.

I clicked “complete coverage” under the box score which took me to Sbnation which then brought me here…
"I once had a friend named Charlie, and Charlie was always late to school
He had a black eye one day, but he wouldn’t say just what happened to him
Charlie got mad in class one day, and stood up with a .22 pistol
Told everybody that he couldn’t take it anymore, he was over being the victim"
some thoughts
As good as the defense looked, I still HATED seeing Cole 30 yards downfield trying to cover Keller. I also cringe every time I see Nnamdi anywhere in the middle of the field in zone. Also, it is incredibly frustrating looking back that we couldn’t have just had ONE more win. Honestly, out of all the games we blew in the 4th quarter or just didn’t show up, just a single victory would have put us in a position where we would control our own destiny. Why couldn’t we have just beat fucking arizona or Seattle, or any of those other games we blew late? We’d be 9-7 and could wrap up the East with 2 more wins and not have to worry about what the giants or cowboys do. It just pisses me off. At the time I didn’t care as much because it didn’t seem like the playoffs were possible. But now all of those losses REALLY hurt. We could easily be in the playoffs if we just showed up to 1 or 2 more games.
All of that aside, I look forward to the rest of the year. Although we need the Giants to lose, I think they might. The Jets suck, but so do the Giants and the Jets are capable of playing good D. Plus they’ve become somewhat crosstown rivals and maybe the Jets will actually show up and try to spoil the giants’ season. Thats the game I’m really nervous about. I think we can beat the Cowboys/Reskins

Agreed man... to win out, miss the playoffs by one game, get a crappy draft pick... we'll be so miserable... thinking
-If Vick doesn’t get concussed in Atlanta (or if Celek didn’t drop that TD the play before
-If Maclin doesn’t drop that 4th down pass on the game-winning drive attempt
-If Ronnie brown doesn’t…
-If Alex Henry makes either of those 4th quarter FG’s.
- If Avant doesn’t drop two passes into Bills defenders
-If Juqua Parker doesn’t jump offsides
-if those two deflected passes didn’t land right in Fitz’s hands in the game-winning drive against the Cards
etc
etc
etc
If Reid would run the fucking ball against the 49ers...
…instead of worrying if people thought he had a “sentimental obsession.”

so did the cowboys
and we torched them for 250 yards. McCoy had 185 and 2 td’s.
by phillyfan330 on Dec 19, 2011 9:23 AM EST up reply actions
LMAO - I'm honored that you remember me.
As great as Shady is, the run game was still terrible two of the past 3 weeks, especially against Miami. When McCoy goes 27 carries for 38 yards and the fans on here are saying things like:
“I’m so happy Andy stuck with the run when it wasn’t working”
“We controlled the clock.”
“The run is set up the pass”
etc
That is sentimental obsession
that’s clear proof that some people just love the running game regardless of what it does. Every down is precious, and you can’t possibly say that 1.3 yards per carry helps the team. Of course, a 1 yard run is great if you’re at the goal line… But even taking into account the 2TD’s, the run game was still terrible everywhere else on the field.
Fans never complain about the run when it sucks. But geez if Vick ever throws two incompletions in a row, we never hear the end of it. “Fire ANDY OMG FIRE ANDY RUN THE BALL BLA BLAH”
by MikeCampy on Dec 18, 2011 11:40 PM EST up reply actions 1 recs
It doesn’t matter how many yards you get, it’s the attempts. So what if he has 38 yards on 38 carries, you still have to keep the defense honest. Who knows the 39th run may be the one he breaks for 65 yards and wins the game. It happened against the Giants this year.
by Shady25 on Dec 19, 2011 12:33 AM EST via mobile up reply actions
Exactly.
It seems like each game there was one specific play that we could say, if that didn’t happen we would have won. And usually every season has 1 or 2 of those. But it seems ridiculous how many games we’ve lost that are like that. It just annoys me that 1 more win would have put us in such a better position.
If like 3 plays on the entire year had gone differently, we’d be walking away with the division at this point.
Its all about the []_[]

The crazy thing is, many of the losses had like 5 of those plays. It’s like 1 in a million odds that so many ridiculous things could happen in one game.
Like in the 49ers game, the R Brown fumble cost 7 points. Either of those two missed FG’s would’ve put the game away. And Maclin’s fumble in FG range at the end also was likely the difference between a W and a L…
There were probably other things that I don’t remember from that game … I know we’ve had a lot of bad penalties away from the play on a 3rd down stop that led to a TD for the other team. There were a ton of tipped passes bouncing right to defenders hands… etc. Wasn’t there an pass that was improperly called an int in the 49ers game too? Meh I forget… This season has been mind blowing.
This season has been weird since training camp. Since Babin and Vince Young made those dumb ass comments. That was too much pressure to put on a team that already had high expectations. I guess we really see how important OTA’s and the offseason really is. If it were a normal offseason, i believe we would’ve had our shit together on defense by week 5 instead of week 14. Juan came up with some creative packages today. Imagine if we would have had those put in back when we first played NY or SF.

that we have to rely on a sometimes putrid Giants team to beat the Cowboys. The Giants are not going to play a very good game, because they can’t. Their back 7 plays like trash, routinely.
It will probably come down to how poorly the Cowboys play. Hopefully they will play right into the Giants hands, like they did with us in the 34-7 game.

Even though we need to go 4/4 for the playoff scenario to come to fruition, I still think this is a positive how the team has played down the stretch. Lets face it, Reid is going to stay and with a smart DC signing we can go into next year ready to roll.
If Reid is going to stay, then they need to take all of his power away and make him a puppet...
…for a strong Parcells-esque GM who brings in a DC like Jeff Fisher and basically makes him the assistant head coach.

I really like Coleman
he’s had a rough year tackling wise but he showed last year he could be a really good tackler. He seems to make plays and hes always at the ball. I could also see him becoming a leader for the defense. He’s always jumping up and down and getting excited. I know he’s struggled at times but he’s still a 2nd year player. He can suck in coverge but he’s also had games where hes been amazing in coverage. It’s hard to tell if he can ever be consistent but I just like the guy.

Judging by that quote, sounds like that guy is a genius. Apparently I need to read up on some old BGN posts… Who is this guy?

Do a YouTube search for that name.
And be amazed.

Quote on the Jets blog from the game recap
“The NFC had better hope the Eagles don’t make it to the Playoffs because their incredibly talented team is putting it together at the right time. They could be like last year’s Packers if they somehow sneak in.”
heheheheh

At the right time? Not so sure about that…. But I cant help but think deep down that this will be true… And to think, I requested a 5 day block off for the SB in hopes that Birds will make it to the ship months ago..

yup, planned my vaca for that week.
Oh well, i’ll go to thailand with the gf instead
Being an Eagles fan is like being friend-zoned by the girl you love
Too all Celek haters...suck it
He leads the team in receptions and straight balled Workaholics-style today.
Trevor Laws: "Thank Giants for kicking to (Desean)."
Mike Vick: "Why would they kick to Desean?"
Matt Dodge: "Snap too high!"
NJ Eagle: "Fly Eagles Fly!!!"
Agreed.
He must be from “Ball so hard university” (fucking Suggs….) SMH. But seriously, love Celek.

Huh, why? I cant say shit bc I dont really know anyone on this site but I like the guy personally. Wish he was the ol 2009 Brent Celek. Kind of hard when your O line fucking sucks and youre asked to block early in the season. So not sure what the fuck the problem is

It was great
when Shady broke the record and they showed a montage of all his touchdowns this year with “The Real Slim Shady” playing in the background. It was one of those things that made me proud to be a Philly fan.

Where
the F was this all season? I mean seriously.
Doesn’t matter, coaches still have to go for what has happened the first 2/3 of the season
Castillo has to be demoted, or GTFO. Big Red aint goin anywhere. I want Del Rio and Im sure some wont agree w me here…
University of Arizona alumni... GO WILDCATS!
this is what i was afraid of happening though. Eagles play lights out, sneak into the playoffs, get ousted badly & everything goes back to normal, completely disregarding most of the season fails
I also love how the announcers on tv kept talking about Vick taking too many hits because of his style of play, running, etc…with a video running of the hits….and they were all in the pocket while passing..
Yes, Ive now read about this and it pisses me the FUCK off. EAting up all the youtube/replays/ESPN shit I can get my hands on until NFL rewind is available. Was it that bad?

Am I the only person who feels kinda bad for Juan? He seems like such a good human being and as much as he isn’t good as a DC I feel bad he gets blames for everything

You know, I’m not from Philly, I’m from Alaska, but being a ‘good human being’ just doesnt fucking cut it. HE HAS TO GO.

Damn, didn’t know Alaska was so cut throat haha

Eh my man, dont want to sound ignorant. Pops (piece of shit) was from PA and I have some other family from there. Ended up in AK. You’d be surprised though. I value your post but I dont like the dude man…
University of Arizona alumni... GO WILDCATS!
I guess me point was it just sucks when a good person sucks at their job. We all want change and its understood but its not like Juan was a bad guy just a bad DC.

I don’t have a problem with Juan Castillo on a personal level. I just don’t like him as a DC.

To reach the postseason
Philly Win out &
Giants Loss to Jets ( Plausible )
Giants Win over the Cowboys ( Plausible )
Is it too far of a stretch to think about postseason aspirations?
"Learning to eat soup with a knife"
If all you typed in was “Eagles”, why is “Giants” also highlighted?

Conspiracy!
I am pretty pissed off about this win to be honest.
Now, I love the win itself and how dominating it was.
But what the fuck, Eagles? Where was this shit in Week 2? In Week 3? Etcetera, etcetera, et-fucking-cetera.
Clear eyes, full bologna sandwiches!
