Gameday Linc - Jason Babin Hates The Seahawks

NFL Week 13: Eagles Vs. Seahawks Preview - SB Nation Philly
If the Eagles plan to make a miraculous swing past the Giants and Cowboys to make the playoffs, they'll need to make drastic improvements right away, as the similarly battling Seahawks host the club's Week 13 matchup on Thursday night.

Iggles Blitz " Blog Archive " Should Andy Reid Be Fired?
I think it is important to evaluate the finished product. The Eagles are currently 4-7. Does the team go (for example) 4-12, 6-10, or 8-8? To me, there is a big difference in the 3 records. None are satisfactory based on the talent level of this team and the expectations we had, but there is a difference.

Seahawks | Seahawks, Eagles are similar only in their 4-7 records | Seattle Times Newspaper
The records are identical. The explanations are not. At 4-7, the Seahawks are rebuilding while the Philadelphia Eagles are reeling and those two story lines provide the most compelling tension for Thursday's prime-time intersection.

Last five games for Eagles about pride
With the Eagles' once promising Super Bowl hopes all but shattered, the final five games are all about pride.

Babin blasts Seahawks | Philadelphia Inquirer | 11/29/2011
Jason Babin hates the Seahawks. Darryl Tapp kinda likes them.

The Eagles defensive end tweeted the following Tuesday: "Ready to physically show my disdain to Seattle, they treated the Babin family bad. #BlameMikeH #SinsOfTheFather."

"Hell, yeah, I’m ready to go," Tapp said. "It’s going to be fun. I’m excited to go back. That’s the team that raised me pretty much, gave me an opportunity."

THANK YOU

I learned everything I needed to know about this team when I heard what Cullen Jenkins said after the 49ers game – that everyone was celebrating in the locker room at halftime like we already won the game. They’re all talk. They think they’re better than they are. STFU and just play some football.

The article by Lawlor was a good read. I think that he’s trying to take a step back and look at things unemotionally. I agree with most of it except one thing that stands out to me…

The Eagles are currently 4-7. Does the team go (for example) 4-12, 6-10, or 8-8? To me, there is a big difference in the 3 records.

Couldn’t disagree more, not with the expectations set forth before the season. If this were a team that was rebuilding then maybe it would be a valid point, but the front office declared that they were “all in”. This team was a Super Bowl contender. 8 wins just won’t cut it, and may even do more harm by lulling us into a false sense of security for next season. I’d like to see how the players perform the rest of the way and my opinion on them may change, but from the coaching staff on up to the front office my opinion has solidified.

I prefer to look for an up and coming coach. Let’s find the next Andy Reid, Sean Payton, Mike McCarthy, Mike Tomlin, John Harbaugh, or Mike Smith type.

Agree 100% with this. If I had to pick I’d prefer a coach from the defensive side.

Go Eagles!

A couple of points:

1. Tommy is not judging Reid based on expectations and disappointment over this season alone. Before the season I am positive he would look at 8-8 as a failure. He has moved on to where the team is right now and what they do in the next 5 games. 4-12 means he has lost the team completely. 8-8 means he has their attention and commitment to win.

2. It really doesn’t matter whether the HC is an O or D coach, as long as he hires a great coordinator on the other side.
My personal opinion Brian Billick was a bad HC. He struck it rich with Marvin Lewis and the Ravens D.

1. I get your point but to me the mess that was this first part of the season cannot be counterbalanced by going 5-0 or 4-1 the rest of the way. 4-7 needs to go into the evaluation even if it is followed by 5-0. But you, Tommy, or I am not the one that will make the decision. It will be interesting to see what happens.

2. That’s a fair point that I can go along with. No argument.

Go Eagles!

I think it does matter. It shows the team is coming together. Its shows Reid still has the team. It shows promise for next year.

Eagles: Suck But still. #KeepAndyReid
Flyers: On a nice roll
Phillies: Sigh

I do get the argument but I can’t buy into it. Maybe it’s because I have it set in my mind that Reid needs to go. With me this season really is a continuation from last year. Save for the last few minutes of the Giants game, we really weren’t that good the last month or so last season. You can almost argue that we haven’t really been that good since we blew out the Redskins on Monday night last year.

I see where you guys are coming from but I guess that my mind is already made up.

Go Eagles!

Exactly

Sacks are overrated often especially in a passing league.

If you sack a qb 2 times but he throws it 40 times. What does it exactly mean? They need to come up with a stat for sacks on 3rd downs. That is more valuable.

Sorry, but that’s just complaining…Babin is tied for 5th in the league in sacks right now…he’s performing at a relatively high level, yet you criticize him for not tackling running backs? I just feel like we’re never happy with anyone around here…

Rebuttal

0 sacks with Trent Cole out of the lineup, zero impact in stopping the run.

Babin is a one trick pony

Yes he is a monster in rushing the QB in this system. But there’s more to playing DE then just rushing the QB. He is undisaplined, gets flagged all the time and doesn’t seem to learn from them. He sells on completely to get to the QB as well. I understand that this is what this defense is all about. But when it’s 3rd and 1 why go all out rushing the QB and putting yourself out of position for the easy first down that was just run right at you.

It’s called disapline and he doesn’t have it, with flags, stopping the run etc

So why you say he dont got no dissaplin

too many flags

for jumping offsides or lining up in the neutral zone. He also doesn’t care at all about the RB or stay at home. I think if someone ran an end around/ reverse to his side it would be a huge gainer. He just crashes the QB every play and Samuel is terrible at tackling.

by slandog on Dec 1, 2011 12:50 PM EST up reply actions

You my friend.

Are fucking stupid.

Way to showcase your knowledge about football by flashing his impressive stat total ranking. Why don’t you look up how he ranks in total tackles by DE’s. I guarantee it’s in the bottom 5% of starters, easily and I don’t even have to look. Trent Cole is a complete player, Babin isn’t. Cole does it against double teams, Babin doesn’t. Babin is a huge liability in run support. He’s so good because he has 10 sacks, but teams run right at him because he only cares about his sack stats and he’s near the top of the league in penalties.

You’d fit in with the majority of these “me first” players perfectly.

I really wish I could change my handle.

Don't know much about the guy

But he seems like an asshole. Isn’t his dad supposed be kind of an asshole too? I guess the dad got kind of uppity during Jason’s stays in Houston and Seattle

by DLawrence55 on Dec 1, 2011 10:01 AM EST up reply actions

His comments all year have just irked me. He goes on twitter saying the wide 9 works just because it’s benefitting his sack totals. Meanwhile the middle of our defense is being gashed. To me he’s a guy that doesnt help much on 1st and 2nd down and gets sacks because Cole is on the other side.

I just read an article saying we should play all of the young guys, only one I want to see play is Jarrett since he will be a starter possibly as soon as next season so let him & Allen get used to playing with each other
