False Hope: The Story of Philadelphia Eagle LB's in the Andy Reid Era
Minus Jeremiah Trotter, the one correlation to lack of talent and Andy Reid over his tenure here has to be the lack of capable linebackers, any really. I would go as far as to throw out an extended correlation and state that it's what correlates to the Eagles lack of winning. And what's baffling is how far down linebackers have been on the eagles priority list over the years. I don't recall how Jeremiah Trotter was brought in, but I would guess as a fairly low paid free agent.
If you look to this previous off-season you would see the high cash monies the Eagles spent on free agents, and yet the glaring hole at the linebacker spot was thought to be fixed with Casey Matthews idiot brother (whom was a low level draft pick, and maybe over drafted at that) and a few band-aids, it's baffling really. And as long as Andy Reid is the head coach in Philadelphia it is unfair to say that "It's ok, we'll get some BEAST lb's inn the off-season DUR!" I would respond to that; "When have we done that in the past with AR?" The answer: NEVER! And it's absolute shit. You see Lance Briggs running around hitting Eagles in the backfield and knocking down Vick lasers and IT'S SHIT! We've needed that for the last 5 years or so and it's not addressed by anything more valuable than that of a 4th round draft pick. AR can have some of my suk-a-dick chicken in that respect.
I'm nowhere near the this year is over and the "I hate life bandwagon." I actually believe the talent outside of LB can maybe shelter the weak sauce that it is, and we can maybe even make a run and make the playoffs, but the fact is it hurts the hell out of us, that we have some incompetent buffoons in the middle of our defense. Chaney and Rolle have potential, but none of the 3 of those guys should be starting on a super bowl contending team.
One last word, the LB draft class is great this next year, but don't get all hyped up about it, since when do the Eagles draft Linebackers early? And to those of who agree with a statement I heard: "Vontaze Burfict is the leader we need." That's purely idiotic. I'm on the Vontaze bandwagon, but he's showed up his senior year out of shape, and he's shown the maturity of an adolescent.
Bring in some studs Andy, although we have no reason to believe you will.

1) Commentary on substance.
Thanks for stating the obvious. I was hoping you were going to analyzed something. Even if we decide to clean house, the Eagles will still be a mediocre team.
2) Commentary on style. I’ll admit that I am an average writer and there are more skilled writers than myself ( i.e. Jason, Jimmy, Kyle and wild_eagle). I could barely read your fan post. Shorter sentences are your friend. Being concise would help with your fan post’s readability and argument. You can call me an ass or whatever for critiquing your fan post. This is my advice to you.

How am I not in there if W_E is in there. We are at the same level i’d like to think.

I haven’t read a lot of your writing so I didn’t put you in that category. I respect W_E because my first fan post was shitty while he gave me some encouragement with it. I thought it was terrible and he said it was fine so that is why he gets bonus points.
Sure, you could read it but there were some small mistakes ( I used despite in the wrong context was the only thing everyone brought up) but the analysis wasn’t in-depth. I wrote Ambidextrous Manning which garner some praise. The praise made me happy. I’ll write another fan post in a bit and you can critique it.
Everyone is bound to make mistakes writing especially when you don’t have another person proofreading it. I even caught some mistakes from Jason and Jimmy. I sometimes reread my comments and say damn, how did I fuck that sentence up? Sometimes I feel like I damaging my own credibility with my occasional sloppiness.

Commentary on Being an ass
Well, I guess you can’t focus past 4 or 5 words in a sentence, but I can’t really take the blame for that. You also used used analyzed instead of analyze in your 2nd sentence, call it nit-picky, but in reality it makes you look like a dim-wit for making an idiot mistake when trying to make a harsh critique.
Anyway, I understand that this SHOULD be common knowledge, but any small minded person could read around the blog and see dramatic signs that this is not “the obvious.” When people go around simply blaming coaches or blaming other groups in the offense or defense more so than that of the LB’s then it is not “the obvious” that you speak of. In hind-sight you are not just calling me an under-analytical idiot, but most of BGN. And I’d ask you to state your definition of obvious, because it seems pretty wrong in the way that you used it.
I don’t think you needed to admit you’re an average writer, it showed, but, I agree it probably would help me to concise things a bit. This is a bit of a rant more so than that of an analyzed piece. It was past midnight where I was at, just throwing something out there.
There are much weaker articles for you to be “critiquing” and I also don’t know why you’d include wild_eagle in the class of great writers.
Sorry, dumb things upset me. Maybe my work was simplistic, but not worthy of that.
I guess the glory that was the Philadelphia Eagles off-season counter-acts the dump that was the Flyers. Hmph.
Not hard to believe

While this may not be a very informative fan-post
I think this is a great discussion thread for this subject. What LB’s are the Eagles really looking for? Are the Eagles going to continue to utilize rookie LB’s?
I’d say Te’o would be my number one choice, he has demonstrated all the physical tools already, shows the intelligence and communication needed for the MLB position, and is a very vocal leader. If I was to sum up Te’o in a few words i would list the following: Solid tackler, wide range, vision, commutation, and ability to shed blockers.
P.S.
Trotter was a 3rd round pick in 1998 Draft, pre-Reid era.

P.P.S. I would gladly take Casey Matthews idiot brother. At least he’s good.
P.P.P.S. Constructive criticism, good sir. We had a lot of “o” post lately so I figure I would give him quality advice. The purpose of a fan post is to give fans the ability to write their thoughts. There aren’t message boards ( with the exception of Eternal which is healthy mental masturbation which helps us bond more as fans). That is what fan shots are for. Problem is… hardly no one reads fan shots.
P.P.P.P.S. Now that I think about it, me, you and W_E might be at the same level in writing skills. If not… it’s very close

P.P.P.P.P.S. You lose a lot of credibility when you can critique a person’s writing, and then can’t read there response and joke around like it doesn’t matter. “Didn’t read, lol.”
I can respect you wanting to give constructive criticism, but you can’t dish it out if you can’t take it.
I guess the glory that was the Philadelphia Eagles off-season counter-acts the dump that was the Flyers. Hmph.
Couldn’t even take the time to google Trotter?
AR should have to wear a Flava Flav necklace until he learns how to manage a fucking clock.
I am the proud target of temper tantrums.
Regarding the draft and picking an LB early, I can only say that it takes time, but the Eagles do surprise you. In the Reid early years, we were sorely lacking at WR, and the only 1st round pick we used on a WR turned out to be a bust. Brown was a high 2nd round pick who I suppose can’t be called a total bust, but he certainly did not pan out. Fast forward, and we hit big on DJ in the 2nd round, and to my surprise, actually moved up in the 1st a year later to grab Maclin.
So assuming we do address LB early in the draft and choose a player who performs well, the question is what position will then take over as the one we fail to address?
Extended correlations are awesome, dude.

I don’t recall how Jeremiah Trotter was brought in, but I would guess as a fairly low paid free agent.
Jeremiah Trotter was drafted a year before Reid became the head coach. Trotter was resigned after a two year stint with the Redskins only because he was a Reid homer. And other than Akeem Jordan (who was brought back for special teams reasons), Trotter is the only LB ever resigned by Reid or even signed period to be a starter.
