Let's at least assign blame where it's due

First, I'm glad I won't have to hear all the stats and metrics of how great Vince Young is. He showed us again why Tenn had absolutely zero problem shipping off their franchise QB. He should of shredded that weak secondary today, absolutely shredded.

Yes, he got no help from DeSean "I'm a top 10 WR" Jackson. Horrible drops.

Member "Mike Campy" brings up a great point. Please, stop pinning EVERY single loss on the run/pass ratio. That's insane. The Patriots have the worst secondary in the league besides the Eagles. We exploited it early on, the Patriots were begging us to pass w/ the stacked boxes. We could've ran it 40 times,  there would have been no difference. We would've seen drops from DeSean on 3rd and 6 or 7 instead of 3rd and 10.

Which brings me to my next point

DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE

This is where we should be assigning our blame. Once, again, we were TOTALLY TOTALLY outcoached on this side of the ball. Not just by a little bit, but the only time I saw a stop was when a NE player dropped the ball.

I know most of Philadelphia thinks we would be undefeated if we ran the ball 35 times a game, but the fact is, this defense is just terrible, and it has been ALL season long.

The Burnt Toast Awards

1. Joselio Hanson - Joselio I would introduce you to Wes Welker, but you were nowhere near him all game.

2. Nate Allen - I don't know what the Pats saw on tape, but they exploited every flaw they found

The Yellow Flag Awards

1. Jason Babin - Jason, I love your fire, but you're LEADING THE LEAGUE with penalties.

2. Trent Cole - Cole, You're our best defender year in year out, but again, please quit it with the infractions.

I honestly don't see why we don't fire Juan by tomorrow. We at least can start giving some other coaches some chances to show what they've got.

True

he has no effing clue and Andy is even worse for hiring him, but we’ve said this ad nauseum on here, I think that the team was just overmatched in this game, especially with Nnamdi being out and the dispirited play from Desean and Vince Young is a backup, all those things combined for this embarrassing loss.

The pass/run ratio is not necessarily the issue, but the play calling in crucial situations is horrible.

1st and goal at the 4 yard line and they call 3 straight passing plays.
4th and inches at the 1 yard line and they call a PA bootleg, despite having a 6’5 QB and the leading rusher in the league.

Absolutely retarded. And Castillo should have been fired in the 3rd quarter today on live TV so that the entire world know he is absolutely clueless.

I believe we need a new offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator. Tell Ried to be a GM and leave it at that. Or we stick with what we have and give it a second year to gell together. We need to balance our offense more, or out coach the other team. Two players that I seen gone next year is Asante/D-jax.

I understand why you'd say

the run/pass ratio wasn’t a huge problem.
However, when you have the 2nd leading running back, and your star QB and best WR are both out, you HAVE to find some way for your RB to touch the ball more than 10 fucking times.
I agree though that the defense deserves the most blame.

by KevinEagles on Nov 27, 2011 9:25 PM EST reply actions

cause we were down

and the Pats were keying on on Mccoy FULL ON knowing if they stopped McCoy they were going to put the games in the hands of Vince Young..also knowing VY, know matter how bad their D was, wasn’t going to be able to sclre with them…They were right.

JoeD AKA The Voice Of Reason

by Joe_D on Nov 27, 2011 9:30 PM EST up reply actions

First off, we weren't down immediatly.

The game was close into the end of the 2nd half. Just because we’re down by 7 points doesn’t mean we have to completely shut down the running game.
Also, after the first couple drives, we were up 10 points, yet every drive was pass 4 times run once, pass 4 times, and so on.
I could understand if we stopped running after it failed early on in the game. Maybe if we had 7 or 8 attemts in the 1st quarter and it was doing nothing, I’d understand mostly passing from then on. However, we had 10 runs THE ENTIRE GAME. I don’t care if the defense was stacking the box. Lesean is insanely talented, at least give him a shot to beat the D. There was one play where Lesean had like a 15-20 yard run, and Andy came back and immediately went back to the pass. I’ve never been a running back, but I’d assume being able to get into a rhythm and build on success is important, but Andy didn’t let him do that even when they were up.

by KevinEagles on Nov 27, 2011 9:39 PM EST up reply actions

we were burning them through the air

i mean if VY doesnt under throw jackson, and jackson catches the TDs. we wouldve had 300 yards in the first half…how can you argue with that? it was terrible execution more than run/pass ratio

JoeD AKA The Voice Of Reason

by Joe_D on Nov 27, 2011 9:44 PM EST up reply actions

You can’t honestly be okay with passing the ball 3 times on 1st and goal at the 4 yard line, and also on the 4th and inches, can you?

by Team Serbia on Nov 27, 2011 9:46 PM EST up reply actions

First of all...

…Vince Young underthrows people. That’s what he does. Secondly, Desean makes “business decisions.” That’s what he does. The problem was not necessarily execution because the coaches know that this is what these players do. They need to plan accordingly. Andy KNOWS Desean is out the door and looking to get paid. He’s going to do nothing that will potentially get him hurt. Today is all on Reid and his asshole friend Castillo.

God Damn you, Andy Reid.

by EvilBanner on Nov 27, 2011 9:59 PM EST up reply actions

So Andy Reid is to blame for not taking DeSean’s state of mind into account when drawing up a gameplan?

I thought I’d heard it all.

Matt Forte, Arian Foster, and LeSean McCoy are all making less than a million dollars this year. Their respective teams are not struggling because of them. Why is it that coaches need to take delicate salary situations into consideration when drawing up a gameplan? Is it really Andy’s fault Desean dropped two TDs?

I reject your reality and substitute my own.

by alcatraz0109 on Nov 27, 2011 10:08 PM EST up reply actions

I think what EB was saying is that AR and MM should know by now that DeSean is not going to risk getting hit in the middle, so they should stop sending him across the middle where he will not catch the ball.

AR should have to wear a Flava Flav necklace until he learns how to manage a fucking clock.
I am the proud target of temper tantrums.

by KByars on Nov 27, 2011 11:02 PM EST up reply actions

that's retarded

You don’t plan around your QB to underthrowing and your receiver dropping passes. Take a couple of breaths bud, I know this was a tough loss, but you’re not being rational.

by smeagle on Nov 28, 2011 8:51 AM EST up reply actions

actually ...

There has been talk all year around Nnamdi that the coaches arent game planning to the players strengths, but that they are imposing a plan onto the players that are emphasizing their weaknesses.

DeSean can be a speed decoy, that is what he is. If the D is keying on the running back, then you can spread a huge hole in the middle of the field by running Jackson deep. He only has to be targeted once or twice, and then two defenders will be watching him, while 8 are in the box and back-pedaling, and the suspect Patriots secondary is toast.

When Jackson does come across the middle, the QB has to know that he cannot be a target if there is any inside pressure at all. Dont expect him to make a catch and a move. Expect him to turtle and short arm it. His job is nothing but a decoy again. If the decoy part is noticed, and the D ignores him, then he can have a throw come his way.

If you know that VY underthrows people, you dont tell DeSean to expect to clear the back of the defense. We all know that is what he likes, because he cant get hit, but it just isnt happening. A back shoulder throw, or a bit of coaching to let him expect a short throw would be a fine thing.

Also, I would have loved to see some fire out of Andy when Jackson got tossed to the ground on the interception. Get out there and scream… embarrass yourself, get on sportscenter … anything, just pretend that you care.

by ATLeagle on Nov 28, 2011 10:18 AM EST up reply actions

Disagree

Blame should go to Juan, his defense is easy to exploit. I blame Nate Allen, he was awful in the open field. I blame the linebacker for being soft. Can’t blame a QB who gets little help from his wideouts and still throws for over 400 yards.

defense gets the blame on this one more time

you cant play zone with this defense and not against tom brady. you blitz blitz blitz the shit out of brady. if you give quarterbacks like brady more than 3 seconds in the pocket without getting hurried or rushed he will pick us apart. we dont have the line backers or safeties to allow us to play fucken zone. every single pass play our defenders were 1-2 steps behind their receivers. why didn’t we put on the game film when the jets played the pats last year and see how brady got dismantled by the jets. it was because the jets played very agressive
so what if we give up a big pass play here and there, if you took away their running game and short passing game by playing man and keeping our safeties up and blitz the shit out of brady you have a chance to win and we didnt adjust our fuken game plan not one iota during the course of the game. thats why belicheck is a good coach, he knows how to fuken adjust

All in huh?

This is a very talented team who just can’t win. Money and hype will not win you games. You HAVE to blame coaching at this point.

Jason Avant was the only WR playing football today. Time and time again I watched as Riley Cooper and Desean stand around as Avant tried to dodge defenders. How about we block somebody guys…anybody. That is the attitude of this team and has been all season. Stand around and wait for someone else to get it done. Your HC is the guy who establishes a teams personality. And Andy Reid is doing a horrible job of that.

I like Reid, but he had his opportunity to win the big game and failed. Im ready to see him go personally…but if he does come back, AT LEAST get MM and Castillo out of here and bring in guys who now how to win.

by SadPenguin on Nov 27, 2011 11:01 PM EST reply actions

This more than anything.

For every newscaster who says “throw against the Patriots”, they ignore that it’s important to balance the offense since the Patriots sit middle of the road in passer rating against (rank ~16th). Yeah, opposing teams pack up numbers, but as you saw today, a lot of teams pack on the points and yards in the 4th quarter and that inflates the numbers- because the Patriots have no problem giving up those yards.

Still, the way to beat the Patriots is to pressure Brady with 4 players (mostly check until Cullen Jenkins went down), and play press man coverage. Eagles didn’t do that.

DeSean Jackson and Defense

is the problem here not andy reid. If we fire andy reid we are going to have a repeat of this season. Our fairly young team would have to adapt to a new coach and a new style. Whats the problem is our players are not playing with any passion or drive. DeSean only gives a damn about getting played and its clear he’s not coming back next year. It also helps that our D specifically our secondary was injured in this game. Did you really think that Joselio hanson and Brandon hughes was going to stop Tom Brady?
