I've been noticing some trends with the better offenses in the league so I wanted to make a post that kind of asked us, the regular fans, how we would improve the effectiveness of our offense. Sure, we are up there in yards per game and we clearly have the most potential for explosiveness in the NFL, but I still feel like our offense should be better at sustaining drives than we are. After the jump, I'm going to put the one change I would like to see that would make us more effective...and I want you guys to do the same in the comments section.
I think if we made one major change with the way we use Desean Jackson, it would pay HUGE dividends in every facet of the game. Corners routinely line up 8+ yards off of Desean. Safeties routinely line up 15+ yards off of him with their only assignment being to make sure he doesn't get free over the top of the corner.
What if we did like the Packers and the Saints do and everytime we have a pass play called, we had a call at the LOS that Vick could make that would be a quick screen to Desean. In my opinion, doing that 4 times a game would have a much larger effect on our offense than running the fake reverse 4 times a game would. The corners would have to come down to the LOS and play him often and, if they don't we are going to be in a lot of 2nd and 2's, which is a very desirable down and distance to any offense. Plus, it allows Desean to get free over the top more often and regain the successful deep pass necessary for many fans to think he is effective.
That is my major change...what would be yours?
