The Linc - Game Ball Goes To The D-Line

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ - NOVEMBER 20: Eli Manning #10 of the New York Giants fumbles the ball late in the fourth quarter against Jason Babin #93 of the Philadelphia Eagles at MetLife Stadium on November 20, 2011 in East Rutherford, New Jersey. (Photo by Al Bello/Getty Images)

Day After: Eagles harness DeSean's energy | Eagletarian | 11/21/2011
Often, when forced to play without its better players, a team will focus and play above its collective head. Without quarterback Michael Vick, the Eagles became DeSean Jackson’s team.

Tom Coughlin Rips Into Giants After Loss To Eagles - Four For Four - SB Nation Philly
"We have no first downs to show, we have no yardage to show, we have no rushing yardage with 29 yards, which is about as pathetic as it can get" said Coughlin.

Re-Focused: Eagles @ Giants, Week 11 | ProFootballFocus.com
In a game this big for your season, everything on the line without your starting quarterback, you need someone to stand up and be counted to carry the team. What’s better than one player doing that? How about an entire eight man rotation on the defensive line? Every single player on the Eagles’ defensive line made a contribution this week. Five players registered sacks, including the game clincher from Jason Babin (+4.8). Backups Juqua Parker (+3.9) and Derek Landri (+5.4) both knocked down passes. The octet combined to make 14 defensive stops in the game and did not miss any tackles. The ability to run in such high quality was too much for the Giants’ offensive line in this game.

NFC East Total QBR report - NFL Nation Blog - ESPN
For the game, Young had a Total QBR of 66.9, which is pretty good. It's better, for example, than Michael Vick's 58.1 Total QBR for this season (which ranks 11th in the league among qualifying quarterbacks), and considerably better than the 31.3 Total QBR that Vick posted in the Eagles' Week 3 loss to the Giants.

Finally, The Bully In The Eagles Comes Out
The Eagles showed little fight early on in the season, but on Sunday night, it all came out in one big blow to the Giants.

who said this?

It’s about damn time this team got nasty. I always had the mindset while playing sports that even if I was gonna lose I’m gonna beat the shit out of the other team.

you see... now why do people bash reid's pressers?

how do u think all of coughlin’s criticizing is going to affect the giants? POSITIVELY or NEGATIVELY? Did the fans like to hear it , sure…..Is it going to help the team out or keep the players playing hard for you? possibly not

I would take a Couglin PC over Reid anyday. A PC like that would more than likely light a fire under the players asses. The only good thing about Reid is that he doesn’t throw players under the bus.

i agree with you

said nothing they didnt already know. the giants played poorly in all facets..my point is, as a head coach, what is the gain there? there is nothing to gain by post game rants except the media parasites will have a field day…..and i can’t see public hulimiation motivating your players or them liking it…in fact, it just opens yourself for your players to criticize you in the media as well… there’s nothing to gain, only to lose

In that case it all depends on the type of team and the types of players you have. Some players are going to be offended and some players will be motivated. Again, that’s on the coach and how he runs his team.

I think we have to give Derek Landri special credit. He was going to scoop and score with the fumble late in the game, but then it occurred to him that Shady hadn’t run for 100 yards yet. Landri selflessly went down so that Shady could pad his stats. Derek Landri is the Mother Teresa of DTs.

It placates the fans

A lot of fans like to know that the team is as pissed as they are. Fans don’t want excuses or meaningless “We’ll work harder next time” cliches.

The way most of us played sports growing up, if you screwed up, you spent some time on the bench or you ran extra laps. Fans see a player drop a catch, then laughing on the bench 2 minutes later, with no consequences, it just doesn’t sit right.

Yeah exactly

I was surprised to see Joe write that but I agree with him too. As fans, we want to see some emotion from AR, ESPECIALLY Philly fans. I think that’s one of the reasons that the best coach the eagles have ever had has been critized so much since he’s been here. When we are pissed off, we want to see him pissed off, but instead he’s dull and says the same things over and over and puts all blame on himself during his PC’s. But we all know he isn’t that boring and unemotional with the team, we just don’t get to see that side of him.

Congrats on beating us

Your DL certainly deserves the credit. The front 4 generated so much pressure that you were able to dial down the blitzes.

Collinsworth certainly knows his stuff. But he spent every play and replay looking for possible penalties on the Giants. It sounded like he was nervous about money he had on the game.

Lol

The first link took this (about DeSean):

"All week at practice," Young marveled. "He told y’all how he feels, how he is going to be a team player and all these different things. He did that all week in practice. He was studying. Then he brought it to the game, and you guys saw that."

And turned it into this

In his sincere praise, Young inadvertently betrayed two truths about Jackson. For one, Jackson clearly has not been studying as much, or as completely, as he could have been. Also, Jackson did not practice hard, and he did not play hard.

Are you serious? How do you get one from the other?

I've been thinking this all season...

…Especially as of late. Djax is mailing it in lately, not giving it his all and has hence lost alot of his support based on his effort and play, not to mention this contract dispute.

After the got the big pass called back and returned the punt for a near td, I thought to myself, this is what it looks like when he’s giving it his 100%. You know he felt he needed to make up for that bonehead penalty (even though it should’ve just been a 15 yarder). First game all season where he was really giving it his all.

He loves pissing off Giants fans and he’s by far the best at it. One of the biggest reasons why I’m really going to miss him next season if he can’t rationalize why he isn’t worth Fitz/Megatron money.

I really wish I could change my handle.

during a contract year? That doesn’t make logical sense. I think its more like, the Giants were the only ones dumb enough to let him beat them.

also this is why PFF can be stupid

a – it’s praising Prince Amukamara for tht INT….fact is, he was burned pretty badly and pretty much would’ve given up 6 had that throw been anything close to decent.

b – it credits herzlich being poor in coverage…but it says he didn’t give up any TDs…the very last TD, was all his fault as Collinsworth and Tuck pointed out…. Yet some other Giant is going to get credit for it

c – Cole was hardly mentioned in the PFF…but there is no ratings for double teams or anything like that. and while Babin is getting the sacks he’s likely getting more than Cole because there is less attention being given to him.

Even though the Giants offensive line is bad, and getting worse, you also have to wonder how many “pff ratings” are skewed when one of those guys misses a block and another guy has to try and make up for it and take credit for letting up pressure as well…

just some thoughts here

JoeD AKA The Voice Of Reason

by Joe_D on Nov 22, 2011 8:35 AM EST reply actions

PFF is outstanding for certain things. Their snap count data, for example, is invaluable. But you’re dead on with those three points. Amukamara was beaten by a good 5 yards on that play. He was beaten so badly that Jackson couldn’t get back in time to try to break it up.

Their individual grades are useless, and it bugs me to no end when people will say something like “Todd Herremans had bad games against the Redskins, Bills, and 49ers,” when there’s a pretty good chance they never even watched those games, and almost certainly weren’t focused on Todd freaking Herremans. I hate that PFF has become a substitute (and a bad one at that) for actually watching the games.

by JimmyK on Nov 22, 2011 8:58 AM EST up reply actions

Prince was roasted all night and if Vince Young had anything more than a pop gun arm (he was rusty to say the least), he would’ve been beaten ala Dimitri Patterson.

And they have no idea what they’re talking about. They gave Brian Rolle two touchdowns allowed this year when in reality, both of them were on Asante Samuel. And they did the same thing to Jaiquawn Jarrett too, they completely ignored the fact that Fitz was not Jarrett’s man and the TD was the fault of Samuel who tried to jump a route underneath.

Oh and Lagarette Blount was the most elusive back in the NFL last year according to them (LOL!).

They really have no idea what they’re doing over there, it’s kind of sad whenever they try to go in depth and do X’s and O’s. It pales in comparison to stuff that has been written by fans on BGN.

and the QBR is stupid

In fact, his qb rating == 69 was a much better reflection of how he really played that game. granted it was a first start and all…but ONE good drive, in the whole game, doesn’t make him a hero. if the giants offense mustered points i don’t think Young could’ve gotten the job done

anyone else think that VY has a terrible throwing motion and it was the reason he had most of his missed/underthrown passes. He wasn’t extending his arm at all. It was ugly to watch and you can tell he was losing power by not extending his arm. It was the first thing I noticed when he was passing. It would of been a much different game if VY was hitting some of those wide receivers that were open.

by eagsfanMBG22 on Nov 22, 2011 12:38 PM EST reply actions

He was getting no power from his base. His footwork was really, really bad. Throwing motions are overrated, especially once you get to be as old as VY, you just let them do what they’re comfortable with. But he wasn’t generating any explosiveness from his lower body. He was standing straight up in the pocket (no bent knees, not in throwing stance), he wasn’t generating any sort of power by rotating his hips and he wasn’t stepping into throws consistently. Try throwing without moving your feet, it doesn’t work as well. He was trying to strong arm balls and while his arm is stronger than most it would most certainly help if he had better footwork.

Exactly right

that is also why his first throw, screen to Shady was at his feet. Because his feet were completely wrong. It was a 10 yard throw and he couldn’t even get it there because his base was all out of whack.

by slandog on Nov 22, 2011 2:20 PM EST up reply actions

Footwork has been his issue since UT. Mack Brown just let him roll with it because he was winning and with the Titans he was winning games, so they said eff it.
