Eagles Vs Giants Top Five Defensive Plays
We'll be a doing a new weekly feature here on BGN highlighting the top five defensive plays from the previous days game. Luckily, it's a a good week to start such a feature. In previous weeks, it might have been pretty tough to find five.
1. Jason Babin's strip sack - This was essentially the game winning play. After the Eagles 18 play go ahead scoring drive, Eli Manning drove the Giants straight down the field with plenty of time left. At the 21 yard line, with NY threatening to score, Jason Babin hit Eli from his blindside causing a fumble that was picked up by Derek Landri. That basically ended the game.
2. Jamar Chaney's pick - Manning never saw Chaney in the middle of the field and basically threw the ball straight to him, but you have to give Jamar kudos for making the pick. How often do we see LBs drop those passes? All the time.
The final three are after the jump.
3. Cullen Jenkins ended DJ Ware's night with this hit.
4. I don't care if this was kind of late. It was awesome.
5. This is arguably my favorite gif of the season. From @dhm. (click on it)

lol Eli looks like SUCH A BITCH when he gets hit

But it puts a rosy glow in his cheeks. Bitch.

Difference is, Vick IS actually a bitch when he gets hit.
Has to cry to the media about it afterwards.

Shady is the best RB in the NFL not AP
he is the real deal, that dude scares me to death more than anyone on that team besides Vick with time to throw the ball

Hahahaha.
Hahahaha.
Put Sheli and Vick in a cage, think your boy survives? I don’t.

Last time I checked, this was football, not MMA.
“Sheli” has the longest consecutive streak of starts in the NFL for a QB. Also, when he gets cheapshotted, he doesn’t whine like a bitch.
Vick has only made it through an entire season once in his “illustrious” career. When he gets hit, he cries to the media.
Everything I said is true, and you know it.

Wait, you’re defending Eli’s toughness after that game? What you saw is a classic example of why Eli isn’t a top QB. When he doesn’t have a running game and doesn’t get good protection, his mechanics break down, he gets skittish in the pocket, his footwork gets erratic and he can’t lead his team to wins. When you’re scared of getting hit the way Eli is, you’re not tough. Congratulations, Eli doesn’t get injured. That doesn’t mean he is tough.
I’ll take a guy who takes his licks on the field and then complains off the field over a guy who avoids hits on the field and keeps quiet off of it.

Eli has been the best passer under pressure in the league.
Our OL blows and so far, Eli has led us to more wins than losses. The opposite of Vick, who has thrown more INTs under pressure than Eli has. Mind you, this is Vick WITH a running game, and a good, if inconsistent OL.
So I’m really not sure what you mean right there…

lol dude Eli doesn't need to say anything you can tell by the face he has on when he takes a hit
You can tell by the look in a mans eyes if hes a bitch or not. And Eli is a bitch Vick complained about hits he takes to get the refs to pull out the flags. Vick has played through broken ribs broken fingers and the injury he suffered with the redskins last year and your gonna question the mans toughness? Lmao gtfoh with that. Eli takes a sack just a regular sack and hes skittish and makes stupid mistakes.
Fuck Pacquiao, Marquez got robbed he should be 2-1 in the trilogy. Boxing is just embarrasing now, all to get the biggest payday possible. BOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

Eli played with a separated shoulder that was supposed to knock him out for a month.
He also played with plantar fasciitis on his plant foot.
Tony Romo was able to play with broken ribs. Just cause Vick can run away from sacks doesn’t make him tougher.
And that whole “look in a mans eyes if he’s a bitch or not” proves my point….which is, I won this debate :)

I like how Rolle’s dance after the play makes it over the defensive play itself. It was that awesome.

i was watching the game with a bunch of giants fans and they were all SCREAMING that it was a dirty hit, there should be a penalty, he should be fined/kicked out of the game/etc.
i actually had to explain that a runner has the ball and is fair game for (almost) any type of hit.
even if this was a helmet-to-helmet hits (which i dont think this was, but they sure did), i still think it would have been perfectly legal.
its just an unfortunate side effect of a big man chasing down a play that went behind him. pure hustle play. i love to see the big guys deliver the hits, but its definitely not cool to see a guy get hurt (yea, even if its on the other team. well, maybe not the cowboys……)
by RogerPodacter on Nov 21, 2011 4:09 PM EST up reply actions
The Announcer (Cris Collinsworth)
Said same thing after the play, he was already an established runner even if the hit was helmet to helmet (looks like he led with shoulder to shoulder though) it would have been perfectly clean and legal hit. Let them bitch. That was a great hustle by Jenkins to get back and make that play.
I was going to comment on how you should have listed them from 5 to 1 in order to make it more dramatic. The .gifs were awesome.
Normally I would have… but I like to keep gifs off the front page because they slow up the site.

Ummm
Certainly not a personal foul, that happened after the interception so everyone is fair game. Block in the back…..mehhhh maybe ;)
i thought they added rules against blindside hits? if either of those guys hit manning, it was sure to be a blindside hit.
yea, its his fault for not paying attention, but that still going to get called, and maybe fined.
i thought it was weird that TWO guys went after him……
by RogerPodacter on Nov 21, 2011 4:05 PM EST up reply actions
Because QB is that one player there usually protected by a tons of rules, but after an interception he is free game like the rest :)

Depends on whether Eli was a part of the play or not. He obviously wasn't...but it wouldn't have been a penalty if
he was around the general area. If he wasn’t in the general area, it should be unnecessary roughness.

That’s the thing, it looked like Eli wasn’t sure what to do. He wasn’t exactly trying to make the tackle, but he certainly wasn’t getting out of the way. He was just kind of lazily drifting to the play. I think he’s fair game.
I don't remember where he was in relation to the play.
It was a cheap shot, but if he was close to it, a legal one.

I don’t know, the play was happening near the sideline and he was heading to the sideline. hard to tell exactly how far away he was. It was absolutely a cheap shot, but I think it was legal.
in any case...y'all just out-physicalled us.
That’s what pains me the most. Not that you beat us in the actual game (though it hurts), but you made our entire team look soft. When that hit happened, I stopped caring if we got players ejected, I wanted them to horsecollar and punch the shit out of both of those players.

agree w/ bbi
should’ve been a flag… it was either a ) block in the back or b) late hit… pick 1
JoeD AKA The Voice Of Reason
No. NBC showed the replay. Manning was hit after Chaney had stepped out of bounds. It was a personal foul. Even if Chaney was still in play that was a block in the back.
Face it, Laws and Rolle were not worried about Manning making a tackle. They just wanted to get a shot in :)

BTW, I don’t care about the hit. They have gotten away with a lot more against Vick.
by The Pied Piper on Nov 21, 2011 4:58 PM EST up reply actions
None of the Vick hits have been late enough to warrant a penalty.
and on the Vick hit in the first game, he was trying to make a tackle after he got intercepted. Eli was not. Dunno if the hit was a penalty or not, but I’m just pissed that nobody from the bench came out and punched Chaney in the face.

Shut the fuck up.
Unless you are prepared to show video of every hit Vick has taken this year with analysis to show that none deserved a penalty, then shut your stoopid North Jersey mouf.
Better yet go sneak onto the bench and when eli manning gets pushed, run out onto the field and punch a player in the face and see what it gets you.
Hey, and don’t forget to report back to BGN, Lucy.

LOL. I was talking about the first Giant-Vick game.
By the way, the league average for getting a roughing the passer calling is 2.2% of the snaps. Vick gets called on roughing the passer 2.7% of the time. Deal with it.
And I’m already on BGN eating crow, aren’t I? Already said your team out muscled mine…several times. You just have your panties in a twist.

Why would they punch Chaney in the face? He didn’t hit Manning.
The guys you’re suggesting get punched in the face are Brian Rolle and Trevor Laws. And your team had plenty of chances to get their shots in on both of them but Laws and Rolle still showed your team up. Like salt in the wound almost. Like that dude who really pisses you off but you can’t do shit about it.
And I think it’s funny that Brandon Jacobs did try and start a fight only to get knocked on his ass by Trevor Laws and Kurt Coleman. Fuck BJ.

Babins
play was critical. What I liked the most about it though was that you could see that Babin halted his pass rash and saw that Eli was sliding out of the pocket by him and reversed his course. Obviously Eli though he was free and clear. Great awareness on Babins part.

He said that this sack /fumble happened because of their DB cover….. since he missed Eli on the first try, but the DBS kept coverage long enough for his second effort….which I thought was nice of him to say….. not so selfish ….

And then they go out last night and just bully what is (or at least what I thought is) a mentally tough team. And “bully” isn’t even an exaggeration. The Eagles bullied the Giants last night.
Where’s this team been?
True.

Last night is
exactly what the Eagles D has been missing. That “kicking ass and taking names” attitude. They’ve lacked the aggressiveness but last night was a whole different ball game for them. I just hope they dont play Jekly and Hyde again and be a completely different team next week.

Chaney
is such a enigma sometimes….
How the hell does he whiff on tackles SO MANY times during the game?? He gave up those 3 points at the end of the first half…
Its like, sometimes he plays really well, but then will miss a bunch of costly tackles….its frustrating to watch

hate them all
love that this team plays their asses off when the season doesn’t even matter anymore congrats iggles on your meaningless win
We stomped all over the Giants and made them look like whiny little bitches.
This would matter if we were 0-8 coming into the game.

really?
at the end of the day we lost to the fuckin arizona cards at home. who cares if we beat the giants all we did was make dallas the contendor team now wtf is the difference? because of the stupid fucking losses within the nfc we dont even stand a chance of taking a wildcard because of the 4th quarter losses to atlanta and chicago. this season is total embaressment
Well you may be right to a degree
but if we’re out of the playoffs I like seeing this kind of passion. And, if we can kick the Giants/Cowboys ass that’s all the better. If we’re out we might as well cause some pain/embarrassment to the other teams. And why not try to hurt their playoff chances.
Just because we are very close to being out of the playoffs doesn’t mean we can’t ruin other teams chances while completely manhandling them like we did Sunday night.
Funny you like a late hit on a QB yet
no fan base has cried more about late hits on thier own QB, next time someone lays Vick out after the wistle blows remember this.
All that aside good game by the Eagles, VY is amazing, looks like crap but always seems to find a way to win. saw the same thing here time and time again.
Wasn't late hit
he had already threw the pick and was planning on tackling Chaney.

looks like hes just standing there but I must admit I did not see the play, no team plays dirty on QB’s like the Giants, they take pride in putting other QB’s out of the game, so be it even if it was late, they probably deserve it.

Uhh late hit?
This was not a late hit or a hit on a defenseless player. After an interception (which this was) everyone is fair game. Granted it MAY have been a block in the back but there was no late hit.
This may be too little too late by our Eagles but with the Giants going through the hardest part of their schedule and the Cowboys prone to mental lapses all we have to do is keep winning. If we do that the end of the season games will be very very exciting!
EEE-EHH-GEE-ELLE-EEE-ESS EAGLES!

b) we would’ve been crying HARD if that wa sa hit on vick
