Avant is Right
Avant Alienates Fans I have not seen this story on BGN where Jason Avant said Eagles fans are the enemy and players treat home games like they're on the road. Did I miss something?

Where R Bandwagon Fans Now?
“Jason Avant said everything I’ve been saying for weeks – screw Eagles
fans who criticize the team & wanted Andy fired. Even Chris Collingsworth,
who loves Philly, agrees w/Avant. Eagles don’t need fan support like that.
So the Eagles need fans
who will smile and nod when the team falls to 1-4 and is making stupid mistakes all throughout it.
I’m supposed to what!?!? Clap and cheer? Argue that no changes need to be made? Support everything that comes at me in green and white?
That’s retarded! BECAUSE I’m a fan, and have invested in this team, I am entitled to criticize it when things aren’t going well. If I was a bandwagon fan, I wouldn’t care.
"EFF YOU, WE'RE WINNING ANYWAY!!!!!!" (Bye, Dawk)
no
you’re supposed to understand that no team is perfect, and that just because your team loses some games doesn’t mean it’s time to pout and throw a tantrum.
You’re bandwagon fan because you cheer only when the team is good. When it’s doing bad, you whine and criticize everything. You guys seem to think you know better than the people who get paid for a living to make the decisions.
Pretty sure Andy is qualified enough to realise the team has issues at 1-4
A fanbase screaming for change that won’t happen is unnecessary, and suprise suprise andy was right and were seeing change, Blaming and mocking your player’s is not being a real fan

I don't know better than Andy and the rest
never said I did…
but you seem to misunderstand the term ‘bandwagon’ altogether.
The disagreement might just be a matter of semantics. A bandwagon fan is one that becomes a fan when something is going well, and stops being a fan when things aren’t going well.
Criticism during the bad times is NOT bandwagon. A bandwagon fan wouldn’t care that the team was bad, they would find another team to root for, or stop caring at all. To quote Jimmy K
Frankly, if you weren’t unhappy with how the team was playing, I’d call into question whether you were really a fan at all.
So, you might prefer to cheer the whole time. Others might choose to complain. Neither is a better or more passionate ‘fan’. People have different personalities, and those personalities express themselves differently. It’s just stupid to say everyone has to react like you.
"EFF YOU, WE'RE WINNING ANYWAY!!!!!!" (Bye, Dawk)
No he isnt..
Since when does criticizing the team make you a “bandwagon” fan ? Its not like were all packing up our Jerseys and rooting for Dallas.
If the team is sucking the fans are going to let you know about it because with this talent and coaching staff we EXPECT it. Some people take it a little too far, I get that, but if your playing like ass your going to get booed. If your making idiotic decisions (passing the ball 90% of the time) your going to get hard questions asked at a press conference. Comes with the territory.
I agree completely
I hate the idea that to be a ‘good fan’ you have to accept everything packaged and thrown at you with a smile
Sometimes the package sucks, and you don’t have to be happy about it
"EFF YOU, WE'RE WINNING ANYWAY!!!!!!" (Bye, Dawk)
Even Collingsworth?
First of all Collingsworth has hated Philly fans for a decade.
Second: Why would anyone in Eagles organization invite MORE negativity? Isn’t this exact smugness that some fans say they sense from Reid? It was 300-plus days since team won at home. Avant should be asking for fan support to ensure Eagles are monsters in “OUR HOUSE!” Jason shut up and practice tucking the ball away and not fumbling!
Eagles fans are passionate, deal with it. Reid’s teams have been very good throughout his tenure, so the expectations are high. Coming oh-so-close that many times means the fans are going to have a short fuse. Add on the 2011 free agency blitz and new line coaches and expectations were soaring.
While there was perhaps a bit of overreaction amongst some of the fan base early on, with the way we lost those games, fans had every right to get very fustrated this year. I have been an Eagles fan longer than Avant has been alive, and you are damn right I complained loud and hard after all those 4th quarter meltdowns. I think that when you play a pro sport where you make 6+ figures a year, you should never, ever criticize the fans.

There is a difference between criticizing and the loud calls for firing Reid after they were 1-4 which served no point.
Eagles’ fans are one of the most passionate in the NFL but one of the most kneejerk and over-reactionary too.
Exactly
And did anyone read the link? He criticized the people who gave up on the team. If you give up on the team, you ARE a bandwagoner. Get over it.

No its not, its how this team is energizing itself. They went from beloved to forgotten by thousands of fake fans. If that’s driving them to win then good for them, whatever it takes.
Why are people (not targeting you in particular) crying about this? Who cares what they say as long as they win?

This is my question/point as well. The wasted energy part is all the attention that we are bringing to it. He said what he said out of emotion. I understand his point (if that was it) that he does not want all the “hyped up Dream Team bandwagonners” to stick around just because they are finally “putting it together”.
I hate to see this team lose just as much as the next guy. And will criticize players, coaches, the FO when I feel its warranted. But I think that is my right as a fan. In no way do I ever jump on and off the wagon. Most of us are DIEhard fans (which includes the dying part). Win or Lose, we bleed green. Avant’s comments were meant for the rest of the people who dont.

Seems like he was mixing his positions. Reading between the lines I think he was saying. “He wants the team to play like they’re underdogs.” “He doesn’t like fair-weather fans.” but it came out all mumbo jumbo. IMHO so many fans were disparaging the team for decisions that team eventually fixed, ie, sitting Watkins for 5 weeks, benching Matthews, shortening gaps on running downs, running more. That is positive fanaticism.
When the Eagles makes poor decisions, or doesn’t appear to hustle Eagles fans will let em know. That is what makes Philly fans great they care so much they can’t hide their disappointment and never, never are complacent. Albeit some critiques are misplaced but not all fans are geniuses all the time, if they were they’d be football coaches.

I’m not hiding. Reason why I made the two accounts were for Chillyphilly to be exclusive Philadelphia stuff, fan posts and fan shots while this one was sbnation as a whole. It’s too much shit going through every major team website though. It’s damn right clutter now with the teams I added now. Just got too lazy to switch back to Chillyphilly for commenting. I’m writing a fan post right now.

No, BGN didn’t like it. You got a bunch of flags for spam so one of the mods took it down. Avant is right, we don’t need the bandwagoners, the people who left (not criticized, gave up on) this team during a tough stretch. It shouldn’t bother you unless you gave up on the team like a bandwagoner would. Isn’t that right, Eagladelphia?

How can anyone on the team
say what we as fans can and cant do? The players have a job to d oand when they are not doing their job to the best of their ability, they get our wrath. This is 2 times now this year that a player has come out and had something to say about what we as fans are entitled to do.
It almost makes me feel like we as fans have to kiss their asses or something. Are the players that thin skinned that they cant take criticism? We, as fans, have an unmitigated right to voice our opinions about the team. And I for one have a message for anyone on the team that feels we have to bow to them for whatever reason…..
SHUT YOU PIE HOLE, DO YOUR EFFIN’ JOB, AND WORK FOR THE ONE THING THIS TEAM HASN’T HAD IN 51 YEARS………….A CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!
I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints, the sinners have much more fun. Billy Joel
I feel the players are entitled to their opinions about the fan base just as we are entitled to our opinions about the team and the players. Sometimes I feel that fans take the complaining and criticism too far and forget that these players are human beings and do make mistakes. Who knows what gets said in the locker room each day. Fans tend to act like they know the players personally and know better than the coaches do.
Give away the tickets for free,
Then maybe the fans would be more grateful, even during bad performances…
I'll Have a Samuel Jackson. It'll get ya drunk. Mmm-mmm b***h.
Avant is dead on...
And I agree with him 100 percent. But I probably should not have posted the link. In fact BGN should censor such links that paint Eagles players in bad. light. I’m sorry I posted it, Avant does not want the fans who sucked and wanted wholesale changes during teams slowwww ramp up to suddenly jump on the bandwagon. Deal with it, Avanst should get a kitchen pass,
Avant is a Christian guy who came from the hood and was a train wreck before becoming a man of faith. He’s been a solid guy and team mate and I’ve never read about an off field issue. Some guy in the press probably blew this out of proportion.

Show me the ring, we'll show you the love!
Let’s nip this right at the root of the problem. Newly signed players looked around and started thinking “dam.n! we got us a winner here” and some fans got swept up in the euphoria. A four game losing streak later, players looked dumbfounded and fans felt betrayed. Losing streaks do that. They make fans unhappy, and players edgy.
So say what you want, Avant. Tell us you are happiest when we are booing you. Tell us we are terrible fans and we don’t deserve you. But be careful. If we cop that attitude, you are all out of work. Period. We are your bosses. We pay for the memorabilia, the tickets, the tv ads that end up in the NFL pot of gold you all sit around.
I don’t think Eagles fans are too unreasonable here. If you don’t like us, try it in a suck football city where fans are USED to losing. It’s just a job there. Or go to a city that HAS won a SB ring, and they are all about the next one.
We just want one SB ring for now. We’ve been a very patient sort. Don’t tell us that home games are like being on the road. If that is the case, it just means that you are used to losing in front of us. Try winning a few and see how it feels. Try getting some post season success and see if we can’t love you all with the best of the fanbases ever recorded in the NFL.
You are a player on a 3-4 team. There is no “participation” awards in the NFL. I doubt anyone from the NFC East will qualify for a wild card team.
You must win now. Each week.
We booed because we get it. You can’t lose anymore.
Why can’t you?

I think it’s a safe assumption to make that the fans that are at a home game are usually not band wagon fans or new dream team fans .

What, do we NOT boo the Eagles at home games? Is that patently untrue? And if we can all agree that yes, the home crowd boos the Eagles sometimes, should he be sad about that? Why do you boo him? To motivate him, and that’s what he says it does. Should he say, “It makes me sad to be get booed.
