The Linc - Eagles On The Verge Of History

PHILADELPHIA, PA - SEPTEMBER 25: Philadelphia Eagles cheerleaders preform during the second half of the Eagles and New York Giants game at Lincoln Financial Field on September 25, 2011 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. (Photo by Rob Carr/Getty Images)

Eagles set to make fourth quarter history
The Eagles have already secured their spot as one of history's worst fourth-quarter teams. Another loss, and they'll be the worst ever.

Michael Vick Injury Update: Coordinator 'Optimistic' Vick Will Play Against New York Giants - SB Nation Philly
Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg called Michael Vick "day-to-day" on Thursday and said he was "optimistic" the quarterback would play Sunday night against the New York Giants. "Yeah, he's a tough man and I'm always optimistic with him," Mornhinweg said of Vick, who has broken ribs. "He's doing everything possible to get ready for the next game both in the training room as well as in the classroom."

Cooper prepares to play if Maclin sits | Philadelphia Inquirer | 11/17/2011
Jeremy Maclin sat out the team walk through this morning and was not participating in the Thursday afternoon practice, and if he's not ready on Sunday, the Eagles leading receiver will be replaced by Riley Cooper, the second-year player who has yet to catch a pass this season.

Spying can work if the right plays are relayed | Philadelphia Daily News | 11/17/2011
Jason Avant noted that, like Kolb, former Eagles receivers Hank Baskett and Greg Lewis called out plays from the sideline when the Vikings beat the Eagles last season. Like Kolb, they were usually right. "It didn't help either time," Avant said. "The plays were still there to be made. [Receivers] can alter their routes and things like that." It should be noted that cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, whom the Eagles received in the Kolb trade, did the same thing Kolb did . . . except DRC was able to actually help coach the defense on the field after the Cardinals broke their huddle and came to the line of scrimmage.

Miller: Those Awful Eagles, A To Z
The season appears destined for failure. The Eagles will take on the Giants on Sunday in what should be a huge game. Instead, here's 26 reasons why the season is a bust.

We’re #1, we’re #1, we’re #1! Wait…

And I have a weird feeling we’re about to beat the Giants mainly because I’ve given up on the team and the last time I did that they rattled off two straight wins. And then everyone is going to start talking about how the Eagles aren’t that bad and Andy Reid deserves another year and they will be wrong.

Don’t be hasty… we don’t want to be a shitty team for decades. Look at the Sixers…they’ve been a mediocre team since Barkley left. Yes, the 2001 team were a mediocre team too despite making it to NBA championship. When your second best player is coming from the bench (Aaron Mckie) and is better then at least your starting four ( Matt Geiger, Eric Snow, George Lynch, and arguably Theo Ratliff) cries mediocrity. A good coach could do so much i.e. Larry Brown and Doug Collins. Even if you get rid of Andy Reid wouldn’t solve everything… the players are still here.

Offseason Plan

1. Fire Joe Banner
2. Fire Howie Roseman
3. Fire Andy Reid and his entire staff except Bobby April
4. Find a way to get rid of Asante and Babin
5. If someone offers something nice for DeSean, let them have him.

welcome to a decade of mediocrity

by smeagle on Nov 18, 2011 8:55 AM EST up reply actions

We’ve already been on that path buddy. Since 2004 the Eagles are 57 – 47 with 2 division titles and that record is probably only going to get worse over the coming weeks. Face the music buddy, we’ve BEEN mediocre and we’re on track to become poor.

Joe Banner / Howie Roseman keep screwing with the locker room and upsetting players. Andy Reid keeps promoting his coaching buddies and it keeps backfiring. The players have no heart. There is no leadership. We invested $100 million in fools-gold. The team has no regard for the fans and media even when we’re very clearly right and when people ask the tough questions we get answers that essentially amount to “Just because” and “I’ve got to do a better job”. The Eagles are a slow burning dumpster fire at this point.

lol that’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. The 2001 Sixers were the only team that kept the Lakers from going undefeated in the playoffs, and they had the opportunity to win that series and blew it.

They also started the season something along the lines of 16-0. They were far from mediocre.

The Jruth shall be told.

by packimop on Nov 18, 2011 10:26 AM EST up reply actions

Yeah, okay when one of your players (A.I) scores 40+ points and barely beat teams by 2 points. You are looking at the wins bud.. I’m looking at the effort. Sixers had some shitty players… Tyrone Hill, Vernon Maxwell.. come on.

Like saying the Eagles are a good team despite having a 3-6 record.

They were built as a TEAM. Mckie, Tyrone Hill, Mutombo, Lynch, Bell, Eric Snow – all good defensive players and Mckie was a knock down shooter. They were built for AI to go do his thing and the rest of the squad to play lock down d and hit shots when it mattered. Shit even Geiger would hit the open jumper.

They were built to play that way. So it’s not like saying the Eagles are good despite having a 3-6 record because obviously the Eagles aren’t built with heart and the will to win. You could never EVER say that about the 2001 76ers.

Defensive Player of the year… Mutumbo was traded to the Sixers. Thanks for throwing Theo Ratliff underneath the bus because he was more important than most of those guys you listed.

Yeah so much for that philosophy for 2002 with a 43-39 record.

Jesus, who pissed in your punch

You are such a negative nancy, the next thing you’ll say is that the Phillies in 2009 or the Flyers in 2010 were also terrible teams because they made the finals. Seriously “BRO” chill out and learn to appreciate a good team that makes the championship of the league. You’re probably one of the fans who says Brad Lidge wasn’t perfect in 08’ because he blew the All-Star game save. Save your negativity for elsewhere, it’s not needed.

Please

sit Vick. 2 broken ribs, probably no Maclin and a Giants defense that can get after the QB better than most teams. Give the guy 3 weeks to mend. We’re not winning the SB this year.

Get Young and Kafka some real snaps. Lets see Dion Lewis a bit. Play Jarrett a ton more. DRC is injured so lets see Marsh and Hughes play. Evaluate the talent on the team so we can build a better. team next year.

Dear Juan:

Two of the best CB’s in the NFL, 2 great pass rushing DE’s, a great pass rushing DT, mediocre but athletic LB’s, set up for great success and your defense sucks. WTF!?

Joe Banner is Evil Banners father. Kinda like Luke and Darth Vader.

Juan Castillo switching from the offensive line coach to Defensive coordinator is soooo dumb it might just work.

Our defense will not be a top 10 defense this year.

If Vince Young plays… season is mathematically over. I was reading one of Dindinger (sp)‘s article and he was saying the Vince Young needs to be told when it’s a shotgun or when to dump the ball to McCoy. Smells like a disaster…

To go along with that, his only tenure as a defensive coordinator (San Francisco 1999 to 2003) was unimpressive. In 1998, the year before he took over as DC, the 49ers finished 13th in points allowed and 23rd in yardage allowed. in 1999, his first season as DC, they were 30th in points and 28th in yardage allowed. The next season was no better as they were 28th in points and 29th in yardage allowed. The next three seasons they finished middle of the pack in defensive rankings.

It bugs me so much that the BRONCOS who are led by Tim Tebow of all people are a better team than the Eagles are. But I really think this statement is true, winning is an attitude and the Eagles lack it.

i think reid could make tebow into a good quarterback

by Bleeding_Green_Eagle on Nov 18, 2011 8:19 AM EST up reply actions

No way, Tebow has an awful delivery and awful accuracy. What he is doing now is what he does best, option football where he can just gut out wins. Say what you want about this guy but he is an amazing leader and he gets wins. The guy steps up, commands the team and calls the shots when it matters most. I remember watching a video of him against the Texans last year and he was on the sidelines telling everyone “We’re going to win this!” and “Let’s go, we’re going to win!”, he got down in the red zone and he told the coach “There’s only one guy who is carrying the ball down here” and then he went to the huddle and told everyone “We’re going to win the game right here” and then he rushed for a touchdown.

And he doesn’t turn the ball over either. On his career he has a 21:4 TD:TO ratio. Yeah, he has scored 21 times and turned the ball over 4 times. That’s crazy.

I honestly started laughing after I read this
The only thing more disturbing than the Eagles’ fourth-quarter performance is the lack of answers the coaches seem to have.

Why were they outscored 14-0 in the fourth quarter by the Falcons, 15-0 by the Giants, 7-0 by the 49ers, 7-0 by the Redskins, 10-0 by the Bears and 14-3 by the Cards?

Reid: "I think we all need to improve in the fourth quarter. I’d like to be able to tell you it’s one thing. Do we need to score more points? Yes we do. So we need to stop them and we need to score more points? So, it’s both sides of the football, it’s not one particular thing."

OK, got that cleared up.

Juan Castillo: "You know, that’s something that guys work hard, everybody’s working hard, you know we’re working on the fundamentals. And then, you have to believe that things will change just like they did a few weeks ago and you have to believe in those fundamentals. That’s what we’ve always done here and we’ve always been able to come out of this."

OK, thanks for that.

Just how oblivious they are is dumbfounding. Its like they just really thought it was going to work just because they pictured it would.
