Who Get The Eagles Vs Cowboys Game Ball?
There's several good candidates this week and one great one as we get to hand out a winning game ball for the second game in a row. First and most obvious is LeSean McCoy. He set a career high in yards and completely ran all over the best run defense in the NFL.
How about Howard Mudd? I was going to say Jason Peters, but I then I thought of some great blocks Todd Herremans made and Jason Kelce did a really good job on Jay Ratliff so I just figured we'd lump Mudd and the whole line all together. As good as McCoy was, he's not getting 185 yards without the outstanding performance of the offensive line.
Speaking of coaches, can Juan Castillo get some love? Everyone in town was calling for his head three weeks ago and his defense has responded with two great back to back performances. They were giving up 26 points per game over the first five games and given up only 20 total over the last two. There's no doubt Juan has a lot more to prove, but after the beating he took this year, it's only fair to give him some props for the defense over the last two games.
Michael Vick somewhat quietly had maybe his best game of the year. He was 20-28 for 279 yards and a pair of TDs. He was laser accurate and he gained another 50 yards on the ground. But perhaps the best part of his game Sunday night was his blitz recognition and his reactions to it. Two touchdowns came as a result of audibles Vick called at the line. Andy Reid talked about Vick's game this week.
"Well really, two of the touchdowns were plays that he either changed the play or got rid of one, where we had two of them called in the huddle and you could switch them over to the other. I thought he played a fine football game. I think you've got the numbers, as far as the quarterback rating goes, and so on, that show that, but the little things like you're talking about here, switching either protections or switching from play to play, I think he's becoming very comfortable."
And even more impressive, Andy says Vick probably couldn't have made those calls last year.
"He had more than that. There were a couple other runs that he made calls on too, and those he would have done last year. The two that I was talking about with the touchdown, probably not."

I picked Mudd/Offensive Line. A lot of those holes were so big I could drive my car through there. No disrespect to shady or the D who had a hell of a game.
The way the defense has played the past 2 games is so exciting. But i want to see more of it before i give this one to Juan. 2 games can be a coincidence, but three creates a trend….
I went McCoy.

Loving Vick's development
It’s scary to think that he’s actually getting better and better….

I had to...
I went with Juan Castillo. They held a pretty good offense to only one TD and kept their TOP to an astounding low.
I know the O-line/Mudd/McCoy will probably win this, but Juan needs some love. He is really starting to put it together. I think this week vs. Chicago will solidify that statement.
That being said, McCoy is beast. The O-line is getting better EVERY game. Vick is getting better and better. And Mudd is a genius.

I went with Juan
I feel like Shady could win this every week, and that Mudd and the O-line are an important part of that success.
Of all the possible outcomes of this game, I envisioned that Dallas could blow the Eagles out, or that either team could win a close, shootout-type game. I never expected the Cowboys offense to get laughed off the field like this, and so went with Juan.
Our offense, while stagnant at times, has always been productive
Our defense, however, is finally stepping up.
My vote is for Juan
"When life hands you lemons, make a profit." - Chet Cashley
"Float like a Butterfly, sting like a Bee; Make sure you got the ball in your hands, or else you won’t get a TD." - Joe Theismann
Shady hands down
How many times did he have to jump cut or stiff arm or run the completely other way and still get yards? He ran over Sean Lee for his first TD, and then shook the defense on his second TD. Plus there were a few penaltys and blown assignments by the Oline.
ok, the giants suck.

Namdey Asomgua sucks. We should have signed Antoneo Cromote so he could have taught his brother, cousin, son or however they are related how to play in teh slotz.I also h8 his nice guy act. I herd he blows through teh hoes faster than runningbacks thru our dfense.

Reid?
Andy Reid put together an unusual and nearly perfect game plan after the bye, once again. The offense played very differently from what the Cowboys probably saw on tape last week and definitely not what they expected. They expected a Patriots-like deep threat offense but instead got an engine like the Chargers back in the LT days. The productive offense made life easier for Juan’s defense, which is the way it’s supposed to be with this team all along. Mudd would get it if not for the four sacks…
Yea it should go to Reid
13-0 after the bye isn’t a coincidence, he always gets his players and staff well prepared given an extra week. And he won a challenge (or two?).
Funny thing about 13-0
Doesn’t work for playoffs when he has extra week. Maybe the caliber of team and the fact they don’t also have an extra week.
Andy’s record after other teams bye week mist be pretty good because of his insane win percentage in november and december.

Actually he is perfect in the first game in the playoffs if he have the 1st or 2nd seed.
by Anders Jensen on Nov 1, 2011 2:36 PM EDT up reply actions
And the only time he lost with a bye in the playoffs was the Super Bowl, against the Patriots. That’s such a small sample to judge from.
Eagles: 3-4, The run has begun! HAHA Cowboys!
Flyers: Good start
Phillies: Sigh
Which I blame Mcnabb for choking but thats another story….

Arguments for Juan Castillo
The Eagles held an All-Pro tight end to 4 catches for 28 yards. Yes, you just read that correctly. Hold on. I just checked, the sky is not falling.
Jamar Chaney looks good.
On Nnamdi: What has been the biggest criticism of him when compared to Revis? people say Revis is used all over the field, while Nnamdi only shuts down one half. Well, Castillo is giving Nnamdi the chance to prove those critics wrong, and it looks like he’s starting to do that. Remember, he was a 1st round pick as a safety coming out of Cal.
That said, two-five did it tonight. Shady was last night’s MVP and right now is the best offensive player on the team (Vick’s consistency issues make that the case)
GO CUSE, BLUE, AND EAGLES!
Mudd and the Oline
I have a serious man-crush on Jason Peters.

Mudd/OL get my vote
Shady was amazing once again. But the OL are the ones who dominated and allowed Shady to be so effective.
Andy Reid............
He ran the ball!!!!
Just like he said we would.
He let the players play.
Just like he should.
He let Celek do his thing….
that there gave me wood !
It's never easy being an Eagle fan........but I'll be damned if I ever stop.
the day we only score 3 points with this offense, is the day ill give everyone a dollar haha

Andy wasn't an option....soooo
Mudd and o-line got my vote.
For years I wanted our line to do some true run blocking. We did ok in pass protect , but run blocking ? Not so well.I always suspected it was either lack of practicing it enough , or not coaching or scheming it well enough.
I finally am begining to see that since Mudd came in.He is doing an outstanding job getting our line to control their man to where hooles open up for Shady to exploit .No more boinking off a wall of beef, and trying to turn it off the edge. There was actual holes I could have drove an Rv through.
I hope we continue this going forward.

Um...
Is the last Howard Mudd (solo not w/ OL) supposed to be Vick? Cause you mention him but no way to vote for him.
Wouldn’t have mattered. I voted for Mudd + the OL.
He's not an option per se
But I just want to point out how dominant Peters has been this season. Like, its kind of crazy to watch him get to the second level so easily. There are times where I swear, the defender he engages is just like “Oh shit! Where did YOU come from!?!?”
Let the beasting begin.
Juan got my vote and I'll tell you why (not that you asked)...
1. Mudd is one of, if not THE, best OL coaches in the league and it was only a matter of time until his style became natural to the players.
2. McCoy has been getting better and better and better and …
3. Vick did get smarter with the defensive reads and making audibles, but he should be able to do that at this point in his career.
4. Juan, however, has struggled all season, both against the run and the pass. The secondary was a mess earlier on and we limited both Dez, Miles, and Witten. Their run game was pretty good (very good, depending on how much weight you put on last weeks performance by Murray) and we were POOR against the run up until the last couple weeks. Juan kept that bottled up as well. The pressure on the QB was still very good, and the LBs were quiet the whole game (no news being good news!). This was such a HUGE improvement from the start of the season, and such a HUGE performance, he deserves it most in my humble opinion.
"Obviously, I lobbied for him to be here. But what a difference a year makes." -- Donovan McNabb
I still give it to shady....
He murdered the #1 ranked rush defense… Shut up fat Ryan and stiff armed they’re “best” tackler… Made the cowgirls look pop Warner all night…

Struggle with washburn?
Reading between the lines it’s almost like Castillo didn’t have the prominence to tell washburn’s DL to move in closer or drop onto coverage on occasion or switch ends and tackles for giggles. I saw in game DTs filling gaps rather than maniacally pressing for QB.
For 5 games Eagles defense was one dimensional with huge gaps, and OL in the face of the LB within seconds of ball being snapped.
Castillo or Reid, must’ve come to Washburn, finally, and made all those changes. What worked in Tennessee wasnt working here.
by Mtn-Green on Nov 1, 2011 2:05 PM EDT via mobile reply actions
I say Reid and shady
Reid gets it for keeping it simple stupid (k.I.s.s) and running the ball when we had the lead.
Shady gets it because he was racking up big yards on the ground all night long.
As for Juan , he called a better game but the ball control offense certainly made it ALOT easier for Juan .
As for the o-line and mudd. I am not convinced . Kelce fumbled a snap and mudd is the guy who decided to start a rookie( kelce) over a former probowler.

I can't believe I'm going to say this, but...
Andy Reid deserves the game ball here. He got his team focused despite media and fan pressure, not to mention Rob Ryan’s jowl-flapping, and as a result they came out, guns blazing. He called one hell of a game, and, shock upon shock, actually won not one but TWO challenges (okay, they were both slam-dunk no-brainers, but I’ll take ‘em). Plus, he had Shady running amok and managed to remind us why Brent Celek was supposed to be a Pro Bowler by now. Bravo, big man. I’ll go back to griping about you tomorrow, so enjoy it while it lasts.
And yes this is Philly, you welcome to come check us

write-in vote
for Brent Celek! Finally got some love thanks to the Cowboys’ safeties taking away deep passes to 10 and 18. Brent took advantage of the situation and only didn’t catch one pass that was thrown to him (that I recall) and that pass was high and wide.
I voted McCoy
Why? you may ask… well I’ll tell you. Because I would like to savor this moment; the moment that Andy Reid makes running a larger part of his game plan, Shadynasty doing an amazing job and our running game being a big reason we won the game against a team that had the best run defense… McCoy is a beast.
"I'm Cracking Eggs of Wisdom!"
The Chicago game
makes me more nervous than the Dallas game. Chicago has really owned us for the past few years. Last year Vick had one of his worst games against their defense. And our game plan never seems to work against them. We absolutely have to change that trend this year.
Every game from here on out is a must win game, but this week is a Must Win game.
The key here is that last year, the game was on that poor excuse for grass in Chicago… The Eagles couldn’t handle it, while the Bears (this being their home field, groomed to their advantage) could. This time, IIRC, the game will be played on our turf. I’ll agree in saying that this is still a must win game, but it’s not as worrisome as you may think it is.
I DON"T CARE
the whole team gets the ball on this
