Where do I begin? Watching the Eagles vs. the Bills was like watching a high school team and its coaches play against the Bills. I didn't know what to think of our team coming in other than being a little optimistic because we were playing the Bills. Little did I know, the Bills came out like they were playing for the right to play in the Super Bowl and we were another notch in their head post to get there. It's embarrasing to see a team this good fail this bad.
I origionally thought about what Andy Reid said (His only statement) during the press conference after the game. "We have no excuse for how we played and we need to get better". Reid, just alone from his last 4 press conferences needs to justify why a team with pro bowl caliber players have been playing so poorly. Aside from our LBs our team is a beast. I say it's partially from the cohesion they didn't get in the offseason, player's egos, youth, injuries but mostly from the defensive coordinator Juan Castillo's play calling. I can't justify his play calling or how Andy keeps him. When I first heard about Andy hiring an OC as his new DC I thought it was a rumor, then when I found out it blew my mind. Why would you risk a season with such high potential to get to the Super Bowl with a risk like that? An OC is not a DC.
Everyone wants to post how great we are whenever we show a sign of improvement but can't wake up to the fact that our D is our failure. Every game we are up our D fucks it up and shows how vulnerable we really are. The Wide-9 is not an every down formation. Case in point is when the Bill QB Fitzpatrick walked through our D-line with no effort to gain 9 yards and a first down; their RB Jackson tears through us like we are paper and we have no LB that I have enough faith to call a starter. Matthews, Rolle, Chaney, Jordan etc., have all failed to live up to expectations. But I can't blame them entirely. If Juan didn't make it so everyone has to drop back to cover the pass in every other play; we'd be a little better off. If the wide-9 wasn't used every play; then our LB's might have a little more support from our front 4.
Bottom line, we have huge issue that need to be addressed. We are facing a really long and unforgiving season if certain things aren't addressed and fixed. We really need some help. Is this the time to ax the only big fat man our team has known in the past 10+ years or do we sit and wait? We haven't played this badly since Andy's first season in 99'
