Eagles And Cowboys React To LeSean McCoy's Big Night

Dxgrh_medium

LeSean McCoy's 185 yards rushing last night was the most yards the Cowboys have given up to a RB since 2000 and the most an Eagles RB has rushed for since Duce Staley ran for 201 yards in the famous pickle juice game against those same Cowboys.

So it’s no surprise that McCoy was the talk of the post game press conferences. First Michael Vick.

"I think Shady has shown us pretty much everything that he’s shown us for that last two years – that he’s a dynamic player and he’s by far one of the best in this league. You have to give a lot of credit to the offensive line, I mean those guys did great in the run game, great in the protection game. They’re starting to gel and play with confidence and believe in one another. It’s one thing I always tell them – believe in yourself and believe in one another and I think they do us well. Sorry if I got sidetracked in answering your question. I know you asked about LeSean, but you have to give those guys kudos too."

Jeremy Maclin

"He’s a beast, man. He’s definitely one of the premier backs in this league. He does great things with the ball in his hands. I think today we had a great balance of run and pass and I think if we do that and we maintain that, I think we’re pretty hard to beat."

Star-divide

Andy Reid also said that McCoy is one of the very best in the game right now.

"Right now, he’s playing as well as any running back there is. That is a compliment to him and the guys blocking around him. The receivers had a couple of nice downfield blocks as well, so it was kind of a joint effort. LeSean is tough to bring down one-on-one. He has tremendous quickness and lateral mobility."

Cowboys LB Keith Brookings couldn’t help but be impressed as well.

"He is a very good runner and if you get out of position McCoy can expose you very quickly. He did that tonight. It is hard to tell but he is a great player and I think he won the battle tonight. He really made some great yardage on his own. He ran inside and outside and just really did it all tonight."

Considering his age

Shady might end up being the greatest Eagle RB of all time…

I agree. And if he had to be used as heavily as B-West was it would be no question. Fortunately this team has other weapons.

Ed Snider is a crotchety old fuck.

That is all.

Thats a fair assumption

Westbrook only had 6000 as an Eagle. At 23, Shady should end the season at about 3000 career yards. He already has more than half the amount of rushing td’s that Westbrook had and a 1/3 of the recieving yards. At this rate he’ll be well past Westbrook by the time he turns 26.

They are in his recieving yards. He finished with about 3000 recieving as an eagle. Shady already has over 1000.

With his skills and personality

He could easily become one of the “faces” of the league along w/ P Manning, Troy P and Rodgers, etc.

Jamie Dukes- First name is a girl’s, last name is a dog’s. That would make him Michael Vick’s BITCH.

Well what do you think AP would do in this system? Becauseeee he would probably go for like 210 a week.

The Jruth shall be told.

by packimop on Oct 31, 2011 12:29 PM EDT up reply actions

Still have to go with Peterson. Shady doesnt have the ability to just run people over at will. Peterson at this point is only slightly better than Shady and has proven to be a top 3 back in the league since his rookie year. Until Lesean does this again next year, it’s only fair to pick Peterson.

The debate is definitely there

But you gotta give it to AP. He’s a consistent horse. And has been doing it for a few years now.

But would I trade Shady for AP? For this offense, I don’t think I would.

AP

But if I were picking one as they are right now assuming I’d have him for the remainder of his career, I’d take McCoy. AP is the better back, but not by enough for me to give up the extra years McCoy will have moving forward.

If I have to win a game right now – AP
If it’s for the rest of the season – AP
If it’s for the rest of their career – McCoy

AP has a ton of mileage; with his playing style, I feel like he has about 2-3 more years before he cracks like LT did a few years ago. McCoy is younger and doesn’t take the same punishment, so I think he’ll be around maybe 5-6 years after Peterson has washed out.

That is a tough call......

Make no mistake, at this point AP has the consistency and the strength to be every down back with 30+ touches a game. McCoy is still working on that, but the transition from Rook, to Sophmore was stunning. 1000 yards on the ground and 500+receiving is nothing to sneeze at. His receiving is taking a hit this year, but that is a good thing. Coach Reid is trusting him with more carries and Vick is looking downfield more often. But for this offense, the west coast style, it has to be Shady. Need hands for a back in this offense, and while AP does not suck in that department, he’s better in a straight line, not making breaks out of a catch.

700+ yards through week 8. He could easily top 1500 this year. Does he make it though?

What I saw last night was a lack of speed off the edges from the Cowboys defense. Not Ware, but the edge of the dline on McCoy’s rush plays. Also you trapped our OLB’s a lot freeing up a ton of space. Mudd and Reid did a great job preparing.

It is hard to tell but he is a great player and I think he won the battle tonight.

Yes, Brooking gave Shady some props, but look at that sentence. Is really that hard to tell, Keith? I think it is pretty easy to see just how great a player McCoy is myself. You think he won the battle, Keith? Do you need to get torched for 250 rushing yards before you are certain you lost that battle?

Shady's ranks in the NFL so far

Rushing yards #2
Rushing Y/G #1
Rush YPA (at least 90 att) #1 (ironically #1 with at least 50 att is Vick)
Rush TDs #2
Rush TD/G #1
Total TDs tied for #1
Total TD/G #1
Total YPG #4

Imagine how much better he would be if only Andy knew how to run the ball!!

I wonder if the Eagles are going to the run game because of Mudd and his “speed,” undersized lines are better built for run blocking—pretty much the inverse of how the Eagles have been the last 12 years. It will be interesting to see if Reid actually stays with it the rest of the year. We’ve seen the Eagles run a lot before and then abandon the strategy within a week.

Perhaps old man Mudd is rubbing off on the Coach. I say McCoy is the shiftiest back in league, you gotta use him.

Also imagine if the Eagles had a bye every other week. Oh man, I don’t know if anyone would beat them haha.

Shady is definately an elusive back, quick around the edges but I also think that this team is starting to get a little more aggressive. Lesean runs with authority and it often takes like 2+ guys to bring him down. You gotta love the way the Birds are responding after the national sports media decided to prematurely turn them into a joke.
