Eagles dominate both sides of ball, blast Cowboys
Seven weeks into the season, we finally saw what the 2011 Eagles were supposed to be doing all year. Dominating people.

Defensive coordinator Rob Ryan referred to Philadelphia as the all-hype team in training camp and declared that the Cowboys would kick the Eagles butt. And now? "It's not the first time I've said something and gotten my butt kicked,'' a defiant Ryan said afterwards. "I got out-coached, out-everything.

lolwtf Cowgirls fans are dumb

The best way to win a game is to score more points than the other team
The best way to tackle McCoy is to not let him juke you
The best way to take DeSean Jackson out of a game is to have 4 of your fastest players cover him

Basically, if the only way a team CAN beat us now is by injuring Vick, then bring on the Packers.

So, what was DRC’s role? They had Nnamdi playing press on Bryant (and sometimes Austin) most of the game, but I saw him moved around a bit. Couple times on Witten, few times in a sort of zone/roaming (Woodson-esque) look. Were those the only snaps DRC got on the field (to play RCB)?

No, DRC played quite a bit from what I saw. The Cowboys were running spread formations a lot because they were having to throw.

Not really though

When we know that that teams play again, the head to head tiebreaker is irrelevant.

The Giants do hold other tiebreakers at this point, but I’m pretty certain they would all be erased with an Eagles win over them.

It's not an assumption

The point is that neither team has a head to head advantage until that second game is played.

If the Giants win that game, they own the head to head tiebreaker. If they lose, they don’t. No one owns it right now.

Safeties weren’t of a factor last night. LBs generally made their plays.

The big difference is how dominant the defensive line was and their 4 CBs were. Big lead really helped though because it prevented the Boys from using Murray more.

good game eagles. . .

Back when the BGN faithful were lining up at the Walt Whitman bridge, I came here (as a Giants fan) and said people should chill, it’s a long season, you have a lot of talent and a coaching staff with a very good history.

I said the key for you guys was to use your explosive offensive talents get a good lead early and take the other team out of its game plan, put the game a way, and make the other guys go into a one dimensional panic.

Commenters here thought I was just a Giants fan basking in Eagle fan tears, and not just talking football.

But I was.

Here’s to a competitive, interesting season.

Good win over Dallas yesterday.

@Patricia_Traina Under TC, the Giants are 53-24 when they rush for 100+ yards and 15-25 when they don't.

Under the radar stars

Celek – After Lee went out, the Boys simply didn’t have a LB who could keep up with him. He also had a few really nice blocks. It is amazing how much better of a blocker he has become the past 2 years. He actually drives LBs/DBs off the point of attack now. Credit Mudd to the change in technique along with Celek putting on more muscle/size & getting better.

Samuel – I really thought he might pout & play at less than 100%. Nope. He came out to play & was actually quite physical in pass coverage most of the night. He came out fired up, played with pride, and had a good game.

Babin – Granted the Boys didn’t get many chances to rush at all last night after failing behind so much early on but he was generating pressure all night long. Babin does stink in run defense especially when he is tasked with containment on the outside but when you get a lead & just let him rush the passer in this scheme he is a force at times. Putting him 1-on-1 vs a G/T is asking for your QB to get hit.

by MG77 on Oct 31, 2011 10:43 AM EDT reply actions

Kelce/Watkins

Are also improving game-by-game. It helped the Boys played that ‘amoeba’ defense a ton last night with a minimum of actual DL.

Still, these two guys are a big lift over the likes of McGlynn and the horrendous MJG/Cole combo last year at RG. Not that Watkins has played that well. He hasn’t. The other guys were just so horrible last year at RG all year that even an adequate performance is a big lift.

Kelce doesn’t have the strength you would like to see a C have & consistently gets blown off the ball in short-yardage. He also struggles a bit with blitz/assignments but thats a lack of experience. He’s is hands down a better player at this point than McGlynn ever was last year. McGlynn stunk last year. He struggled with blitz pickups with limited awareness all year, had slow footwork and lateral speed, and simply couldn’t hike the ball out of the shotgun with enough consistency.

He’s made 3 starts. He looked lost and out of place in the Buffalo game. He didn’t play terribly but there several plays he was out of place/picked up the wrong assignment.

He’s played better the last 2 weeks though I wouldn’t be surprised if Herremans being over at the RT spot last made him look a lot better last night. Not having to face a tough DT/DE all night helped too.

by MG77 on Oct 31, 2011 12:14 PM EDT up reply actions

by packimop on Oct 31, 2011 12:15 PM EDT up reply actions

Did I say he played terrible? No. I wouldn’t say he has played well either. It’s been a mixed bag.

Curious to see how he does next week vs. Bears who run a conventional 4-3 where he will face an underrated DE in Idonije and a decent if not steady rotation of guys at DT. Bears’ DL ate this OL up last year with Vick absorbing a beating in the process. Best test the Eagles’ OL probably will have had this year so far besides the Giants’ game (where they got owned by the Giants’ DL)

I was being sarcastic and wasn’t really directing the comment at you. Just at some of the generalizations that were made at the beginning of the year.

Kelce will get much stronger next year.

Remember that he is only a rookie, and the changes that players go through in terms of strength and conditioning from their freshman (especially a rookie season without an off season with the S&C coach) to sophomore year in the league are tremendous. I can guarantee he will be much much stronger next season, and much much better. Really excited for this guy, and our OL in general.

Turnover battle. Has this team lost a game the since the start of last year when they were positive in the turnover battle?

They did catch a break those on both of those fumbles though. Doubt either one would have changed the flow of the game but it prevented the Boys from getting great field position.

Only 1 game out of the last WC spot, and none of the teams ahead of us look too good; Bucs, Falcons and Bears all sitting at 4-3.

If we beat the Bears next week…

For all the hate I have for your team....

All I can say now is congratulations. Impressive game in all aspects…..every offensive play seemed to be for 30 yards……..good game. Hopefully we’ll be better prepared for the next one in Dallas even though it seemed pretty clear the Cowboys talent is not at the level of the Eagles offense at this point.

Celek

Is his increase in production the result of him not having to block as much? Or is it Vick just decided to trust and throw to him more? I know this was brought up before and it kinda 180’ed since then so I was curious what some of you thought now. It seems that he is becoming more and more of an option.

I'll answer that at length in a fanpost

But, surprisingly, the truth is the opposite. He’s been blocking more and doing better because of that.

The first Drauschak.

Thank the Cowboys

At least for last night, the scheme Dallas played with their safties sitting so deep, made the middle wide open for Celek and Avant to work. So really Vick was just taking what Rob Ryan was giving him.

Basically as designed

When the game-plan works as designed (this team scores early and gets out to a nice lead in the first half), this team really looks good because it plays to the strength of their team and helps to cover up the weaknesses in the defense at LB/S and special teams. It also allows the Eagles to ‘run when they are ahead’ which they have always done well under Reid when they spread the field and are able to run a bunch of the delays/draws that tend to work well.

Eagles are better off when they have their 4 DBs on the field than 3 LBs, are able to let Cole/Babin largely off the passer (getting back Tapp/Parker helped a bit), and don’t have to have to stop a team running the ball or make tackles after the catch.

Eagles still have the same warts. Their special teams coverage isn’t bad but they have a rookie kicker who I don’t know if Reid has much faith in right now (Henery has only attempted 1 FG from 40+ yds and is 0 for 1), rookie punter who has really struggled in all phases, and lack any kind of big play capability in their return game except when Jackson is back to field punts.

If the Eagles can get out to an early lead and don’t have a negative turnover ratio, I like their chances to beat anyone in the NFL regardless of where they are playing on the home/road.

What strikes me about watching this team the past year or so is how much better they would be if they played their home games in a dome. Actually have a bit of a disadvantage playing outdoors or on natural grass instead of inside.

Highlights Video

Funny how there are no plays, or very few, more than 30 yards.
