I am a Boys fan, that is first what I want to say. More than that I work with corners, safeties, qb's and reciever at the college level and in the NFL. I want to talk about Vick's mechanics and his season so far,
In looking at Vick’s interceptions this season his tipped balls have come from both the defense as much as his own recievers. Vick does have a very strong arm but this year his mechanics are a mess. He holds the ball very low in his dropback and brings it up right before he throws. This is the biggest reason he gets the ball stripped when he is being sacked. His arm motion has been all over the place, at anywhere from a 3/4 to upright motion and he throws a lot with his elbow below his shoulder. This gives an inconsistent ball flight which has contributed to his tipped balls. Lastly his footwork in his drops is inconsistent and he overstrides in his drop. This means it takes more time to get back in a 3 and 5 step drop which gives the defense a fraction of a second more time to get to him. He is also inconsistent in how he plants his feet at the point where he passes. This is more of how Vick played in Atlanta and not last season when his mechanics were much better.
Now Vick is not a bad QB, he has all of the things to turn into a great QB, like he was last season. He just needs the proper offseason coach and mentor.
