The Linc - Oh No, Here Comes DeMarco Murray!

Reid vs. Cowboys' Coaching Carousel | Philadelphia Daily News | 10/24/2011
In his 13th season with the Eagles, Andy Reid is the longest-tenured coach in the NFL. During that time, the Dallas Cowboys have had five head coaches. Here is a look at how Reid has fared against each of his Cowboys counterparts:

While the coaching staff has not talked about it yet, there certainly are factors that favor Murray's placement in the starting lineup against the Eagles. Felix Jones will miss his second straight game with a high left ankle sprain, according to a source, and Tashard Choice has a shoulder injury.

Suh: Ryan's brief injury was 'karma' for Falcons - NFL - Yahoo! Sports
"To me it’s karma for all the bad stuff they’ve done in the past," Suh said. "Their offensive lineman hurt their own quarterback."

If that were the case, wouldn't have been Dunta Robinson who got hurt?

If you put Kolb behind a better offensive line, I think he wouldn’t be failing in Arizona. Their coaching staff should have been aware of this when the scouted him.

Not scared of Demarco Murray at all. If he’s gonna run all over us on Sunday, then it wouldn’t have mattered who was their running back; we would have gotten gashed regardless.

The fact that the Falcons’ players are whining about what the Lions may have or may haven’t said is such nonsense; the fact that it’s gotten this much attention is pathetic. If an opponent is taunting your injured players, you don’t complain to the media, you do something about it on the field.

I was a McNabb apologist for a long time. I really believed he was going to turn things around with the Vikings.
I believe that a lot of other people are Kolb apologists. Constantly making excuses for him. If this and if that.
This is the NFL….you are what you are and right now Kolb isn’t any good.
Have you watched any Cards games? He looks horrible; even when he has time.

Dont care about mcnabb or kolb

Mcnabb got us Allen, and Kolb got us drc and most likely a starting dt or lb next yr. We got great value for them and that’s all that matters.

Kolb

I think he is starting to come around after the bye week. Beanie wells not staying healthy hurts him, but he did not do that bad against the steelers and they have a good defense. I saw signs of him starting to grasp the offense more this week.

Suh is beast

he is just getting under people’s skin because he can. Making them get all worried about what he says just distracts their focus and allows him to be the man. If I was Suh I would be saying all sorts of things to my inferior opponents.

For one, they’re not inferior because the Lions have lost two straight and failed every test they’ve had against an NFC contender.

And Suh is quickly getting a rep as a pretty dirty player.

Agreed.

Why does Suh get a pass? He’s dirty as hell (See the Bengals pre-season game when he tomahawked Andy Dalton), he’s got a big mouth, and I think the league is catching up to him.

I dont think I would say I am not worried about Murray AT ALL. With our rush defense faults that we have, he definately is looking to have a big week. Even worse is that we dont have much tape on him to prepare. Plus, a successful running game will give them the time of possession. If we cant stop them from moving the chains, we will lose this game. Not trying to be a downer, but Witten is IMO, the best TE in the league and we have been ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE at defending TEs. Two major weaknesses we have matching up with two major strengths they have. Recipe for disaster!

Murray is a concern because he has a nice 2nd gear and with the inconsistent tackling this team has had almost all year from the CBs/safeties it is a real concern that he breaks a really long play or two.

and/or marty mornhinweg

i think the team loved kolb because they had to compare him to mcnabb everyday in practice. remember what the coaches said?
(a) he tore up the defenses in the redzone
—mcnabb couldnt convert a 3rd down pass if his life depended on it
(b) he can get the play calls out quicker
—remember when marty said that about mcnabb? i think the eagles did a good job of not letting it out that he had an unwillingness to wear the playchart on his arm. it really is a shame, mcnabb could have been decent if he wasnt such a headcase…

Jemele Hill(who I actually think is more annoying then Skip) has already guaranteed that Murray will run for over 100yds against us

To be fair, that’s not a stretch to predict for any back against the Eagles this year.

True & I didn’t mean to come off as upset but our D has been improving & Murray didn’t really do anything until he faced the 32nd ranked run D in the league. Before his game against the Rams he had 22car 71yds 3.2avg 8lng, Rams game 25car 253yds 10.1avg 91lng 1td

by The Legend on Oct 25, 2011 9:58 AM EDT up reply actions

I agree that the 253 yards against the 32nd ranked run D isn't as great as doing it against the ravens but....

if they’re 32 and he ran for 253, what do you then expect from Murray this sunday and against the eagles ______ ranked rush D? Not an insult, as I think Murray hasn’t proven anything at all. I’ve just been having this same argument over at BTB with people who were discounting the feat as meaningless.

Everyday I feel a little better about the way this team is being run.

by Feeling Blue & Silver on Oct 25, 2011 11:24 AM EDT up reply actions

We're 23rd

I’m not saying he can’t run for a 100yds against us anything’s possible but the Rams are painfully bad against the run the 31st ranked team the Colts lead them by 33yds plus it’s not like you guys have had to face top run defenses all year that kept Murray’s stats down only two in the top half are the 49ers & Patriots

by The Legend on Oct 25, 2011 11:50 AM EDT up reply actions

However THOSE were the two defenses where he had his most carries..

6 against SF and 10 against NE. Against DET/WAS/NYJ he avg. 3 carries/game. So to me you’re proving my point if anything.

Yeah, the thing that annoys me most(besides looking like a chipmunk) is she seems to make a lot of things about race which I find unnecessary because the topics shouldn’t be about race imo. She did one on McNabb but I forget if it was when we traded him or he got benched last year. That has nothing to do with what the color of his skin is, it has to do with how his skills are now they aren’t what they used to be.

One dumb thing she said today is that if we had Cam Newton we would have more wins, actually both of them were making it seem like Vick is the problem when he isn’t. The defense has been.

by The Legend on Oct 25, 2011 3:37 PM EDT up reply actions

Somewhat OT:

One of my best friends is a BIG Packer fan & he is saying that if they can win in Detroit they are going 16-0. I actually think they have a bad matchup in there next game against San Diego & will lose. San Diego has one of the better pass defenses & offenses. Green Bay has one of the worst pass defenses & obviously one of the best pass offenses but maybe San Diego can negate that a little bit since they are 3rd in the league against the pass.

Biggest factor from a cowboy fans perspective....

The eagles definitely do not have a solid defense… BUT I would describe your defense as a very opportunistic defense. Now while I think we have a good offense, we have a very error-prone offense. When those two things combine, I see a possibility of the cowboys out gaining the Eagles in yardage and still losing the game. That’s the part that scares me. Fumbles, pick sixes (samuels). He may get burned halfway down the field, but one mistake is all he needs to take it to the house. I see THAT as the deciding factor.

Everyday I feel a little better about the way this team is being run.

Eagles have been outgained once this season.

The Jruth shall be told.

by packimop on Oct 25, 2011 12:52 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, kind of the opposite of what you’re saying has been the case this year. The Eagles have made a habit of thoroughly outgaining their opponents in yards and finding ways to lose anyway. Before the Skins game our defense really hadn’t been very opportunistic. We’d been losing the turnover battle almost every week until that game. And Asante really doesn’t get burned halfway down the field that often. He’s been giving up a lot more yards underneath this year. That’s been the frustration of most Eagles fans with him this year.

by groot on Oct 25, 2011 2:27 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

That's actually more what I meant. I wasn't trying to say that Asante is bad,

I was just saying that you can move the ball against him… even burn him for a big play every so often when he takes a chance and misses, however against guys who are apt to making mistakes he usually capitalizes, and Romo is THAT GUY!

Everyday I feel a little better about the way this team is being run.

by The Legend on Oct 25, 2011 11:17 AM EDT reply actions

To be honest he hasn't disappeared, Romo has just been going all witten and austin in the second half...

Dez has been pretty pissed, and has been showing his frustrations at not getting opportunities, that’s why when he got that TD catch in the fourth he hugged everyone and gave a big hug to the play caller (Jason Garrett) for finally calling a play for him in the fourth. (Four Targets/Four receptions in the second half.)

He also made a VERY difficult Td grab in the Fourth Quarter so I don’t follow your point. Unless your point is that Dez has dropped a pass in the endzone, then I guess you’re right.

Dallas running game

(Dallas fan here)

Has very little to do with DeMarco Murray.

The more relevant question is whether or not re-signing and playing Montrae Holland (which they did against St. Louis) changes the capability of the offensive line. The dallas running backs are all talented. If the blocking is there, they will gain yards. If the blocking isn’t there, they won’t.

Against St. Louis the blocking was much better with Holland in there from a run perspective. However – that was St. Louis and this is the Eagles.

From a Dallas’ fan’s perspective – I think Holland is a better answer for their line right now than either of the rookies (even if either was healthy). That said, I don’t think the dallas running game performs anywhere near the level of efficiency it did against St. Louis. What I think will be most important is the Dallas short yardage / goal line running game. If that performs well, I think Dallas wins. If that doesn’t perform, give the game to Philly.

That’s my thinking.

by berkokid on Oct 25, 2011 1:33 PM EDT reply actions

I should also

include the return of Fiametta at FB for the St. Louis game. That is in the equation for how the running game performs.
