Kurt Coleman Named NFC Defensive Player Of The Week

Eagles safety Kurt Coleman has been named the NFC defensive player of the week for this three interception performance against the Washington Redskins. Coleman also led the team with 6 tackles on Sunday.

It was a resounding return to the lineup for the second year player, who had been benched after a poor attempt at a tackle that led to a TD in the Giants game. However, after Jarrad Page was hurt (or benched, however you want to look at it) Coleman got his shot to return to the lineup and made the most of it.

He is the 25th Eagle to win the NFC defensive player of the week honors.

Of Coleman is the 25th Eagles player to win it since ’84, does anyone know how that stacks up with other teams?

If you figure on 17 weeks, so 17 guys each year and 32 teams, average should be around 1 guy every other year. So getting 25 in 27 years sounds pretty good to me.

NFC Player of the week

would be split among NFC teams. So 16 games and 16 NFC teams should work out to 27 in 27 years. I could be wrong but I think there were only 15 NFC teams before 2002. So in 27 years we should have slightly more (or 27 if I’m wrong about the expansion) than 27 NFC defensive player of the week awarded to Eagles.

ATG is right about using 17 weeks instead of 16 games. The math then becomes 17/ (15 teams from 84 thru 2001 ~ 16 teams from 2002 to present) * 27 years. So it looks like we got less awards than we should have. We should have ~29.8 after 27 years.

Yes but some of those 25 players won it more than once

NFC Defensive Player Of The Week has been given to an Eagle 39 times, so we’ve done quite well.

Yeah that one bad tackle by him haunted him till the redskins game. People overreacted his performance.

You know you appreciate something you had before more when you lose it. Coleman was a starter that was benched and probably appreciated being a starter on Sunday. He really played lights out.
