Raiders Explored A Trade For Vince Young

LANDOVER, MD - OCTOBER 16: Vince Young #9 of the Philadelphia Eagles throws a inteception as he is tackled by LaRon Landry #30 of the Washington Redskins at FedExField on October 16, 2011 in Landover, Maryland. (Photo by Patrick McDermott/Getty Images)

When the Raiders lost QB Jason Campbell for the season, they immediately went into search mode for a new quarterback. They settled on sending a king’s ransom, reportedly a first round pick in 2012 and 2013 2nd rounder that could rise to a first, to the Bengals for retired QB Carson Palmer. The Raiders also take on $7.5 million in salary this year and $11.5 million next season. That’s a ton for a QB that hasn’t practiced or played in a year and frankly looked like a shell of himself over the last few seasons anyway.

But that said, the interesting angle from an Eagles perspective is that the Raiders were also interested in Vince Young. Adam Schefter reports that they explored a Vince Young trade, but that in the end Raiders coach Hue Jackson wanted to be re-united with Carson Palmer. Jackson coached the Bengals WRs from 2004 to 2006. That’s back when Carson Palmer was actually good, so maybe Hue hasn’t watched any tape since…

So if Carson Palmer fails a physical or still wants to be retired, maybe the Raiders will end up sending some of those first picks the Eagles way and Vince Young gets shipped out…. We can hope right?

Al Davis' spirit lives on!!!!

RIP al you meant a lot to this game. But you late career decisions are the definition of comedy.

by VRFC8 on Oct 18, 2011 10:53 AM EDT via mobile reply actions

What a boneheaded move.

This ghost of Al Davis is still haunting the Raiders FO. Two first rounders for a washed up, has been? I’d trade Young, a better and younger QB for 1 first rounder, let alone two…not to mention the difference in salaries.

Also Young has been actually in an NFL program, practicing and working out.

And honestly, they wouldn’t have needed to give up a first for Young.

Yeah, he’s a free-agent at the end of the year, and I suspect not a guy who wants to stay here and be Vick’s backup for years. They Eagles would be wise to take what they could get for him, in my opinion.

If the Raiders want Palmer because Jackson worked with him before, fine. But if they wanted Young and the Eagles tried to fleece them, I think that would be a mistake on the Eagles’ part.

by BrianS on Oct 18, 2011 11:03 AM EDT up reply actions

Exactly

We would have let him go for a lot less.

Good on the Bengals for getting that much for a guy who doesn’t even play. Who knows how well he’s going to perform?

I’d say the Bengals are a team on the way up but I should hold my tongue when it comes to the Bengals… Mike Brown is bad Al Davis 2.0

They have also asked the league not to award them comp picks this year since they can’t be traded.
