McCoy delivers knockout punches | Philadelphia Daily News | 10/16/2011
The Eagles won a game, and after the last four weeks that was the only requirement. On this occasion, it finally involved the full utilization of LeSean McCoy as a big-time feature back.

Justice, makeshift O-line get job done vs. 'Skins
Todd Herremans was playing his third position in less than two months. Winston Justice was playing any position for the first time in nine months. Somehow, it worked and the Eagles won in Washington.

Season saved, Eagles must stay desperate - NFC East Blog - ESPN
"That's one thing we can't lose, that sense of urgency we had here today," defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins said. "Going into the bye now, we have a chance to get healthy, a chance to relax a little bit. But we have to make sure we still have that sense of urgency and keep up that fight."

Lichtensteiger, Cooley, Williams suffer serious injuries - The Insider - The Washington Post

A little

But you have to remember that we were in the Washington red zone when Vick had that unlucky pick, plus we had a drive killed by Vince Young, as well as one that we might have been able to kick a field goal (ball was on the Washington 37, we went for it on 4th down).

Could have had an extra 10 points…

by philiafan14364 on Oct 17, 2011 8:46 AM EDT up reply actions

I feel the same way

Its a reoccurring theme. We got away this time because surprisingly the defense stepped up and played good.

The O left too many points on the board again. 422 yards for 20 points? We should have had 26-35 points at least.

I trust in the defense now that if we continue to play man coverage instead of zone most of the game, we will at least be a middle of the pack defense. But the O needs to step up. The O hasn’t had one great game offensively yet.

my opinion

Vick had a concussion. He was alittle loopy and ar went into run mode. Also the redskins d is pretty good.

by VRFC8 on Oct 17, 2011 7:49 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions

if vick had a concussion he would not have been able to come back in the game. he said in the post game that he got dirt in his eye on that play. I think the redskins just made the right adjustments at half time. They do have a very solid defense, afterall. It doesnt always have to be about what we did wrong, sometimes it’s about what the other team did right. But we walked away with the W

by jimb0z on Oct 17, 2011 7:53 AM EDT up reply actions

After watching vy….vick and the coaches forgot about it. Which I don’t have a problem with. Vick is an adult and can make his own decisions.

by VRFC8 on Oct 17, 2011 8:45 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions

No, it doesn’t work like that. If a player has a concussion he and the coaches can’t just forget about it. Player has to come out of the game and can’t return.

by groot on Oct 17, 2011 9:20 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Not really

they have to take the certain test AND THEN if it is deemed they have too serious of a concussion they cannot return. There are levels of concussions depending on the severity of it determines whether they can continue, they can’t just deem any head shot as a concussion without going thru the test.

ok, the giants suck.

I pictured something along the lines of
Peters – Mathis- Klese – Herramans – Justice.

no, no it would not

Id rather keep watkins at rg, because you know he is a guard. Also the toddfather is much better than justice. However I would be in favor of this little shuffle. Toddfather, mathis, kelce, watkins, peters. Since vick is a lefty and all, and teams are bringing most of their blitzes from the left.

by VRFC8 on Oct 17, 2011 8:39 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions

No no no no noooooo!

Peters is a dominant LT. Leave him alone. Also, Herremans may be “better than Justice”, but his play at RT has not been especially effective and Justice looked good yesterday, especially considering it was his first game after a knee injury and in a new scheme. I agree to leave Watkins in the starting lineup…haven’t had a chance to look over the tape but nothing has particularly scared me about his play so far.

That’s why I wonder how this will all shape out. However, it’s a very good problem to have.

by packimop on Oct 17, 2011 10:42 AM EDT up reply actions

I would rather have Todd at a guard position. He’s quick enough to pull in the running game. Do you think Justice is strong enough to play the RG position? If so than the LT-LG-C- Justice – Todd could end up being the best possible lineup.

I’m not sure where all of this Watkins love came from but, from what I’ve seen while he’s not a huge liability he’s not the monster I expected for a 1st round pick.

Vick is ambidextrous, and the 10 stupidest fans should get to design the Offense and Defense and pick the starting lineup, and then we get the first pick in the draft every year.

Semper Fi.

I might flop Mathis and Todd, to get that über dominant left side again. And if justice is healthy and can play at a high level start him at RT.

Todd or Mathis > Watkins

If they want to put Justice back in then Herremans probably moves back to LG & they either keep Watkins at RG or move Mathis to RG. I think they would keep Watkins in though since he’s here long term

Things to feel good about

(1) The Eagles defense stopped the run on a team that has had success with the run.

(2) The makeshift o-line was good enough to get the job done.

(3) There was a logical game plan on both sides of the ball.

All of these things give me hope for better things to come.

All very true. I enjoyed watching this team on Sunday.

And….Kurt Coleman/ nate Allen played like men possessed!!! Allens near second int was almost ed reed esque. Full body extension across field cutting infront of the wr.

by VRFC8 on Oct 17, 2011 9:37 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Kurt Coleman is the new Asante!! I kid, I kid!

Allen played like he did early last year and I thought Coleman wasn’t supposed to have that kind of range and ability to play the ball?

Maybe Avant needs to call meetings every week.

by djthekidd on Oct 17, 2011 11:09 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Full body extension across field cutting in front of the wr, not getting so much as a finger nail on the ball only to have Stallworth drop the ball and save Allen from being a total embarassment. Great play.

What I liked about the INTs from Allen and Coleman was the fact that they were in a position to make a play. Meaning: If the ball was on target they still could have forced a turnover or broke up the play. Some of those passes came up short/off target but Coleman had some nice sneaky grabs. One helluva comeback!

Now keep playing like this and they should be good right? haha
