Todd Herremans On Possible Move To LT
The Eagles offensive line situation has been further complicated this week due to the injury to King Dunlap and his uncertain status for Sunday. Dunlap was quite good last week filling in for Jason Peters and basically shut down Shawne Merriman (which isn't as hard as it used to be but still commendable). However, Dunlap had a flare up of back spasms in practice this week and has been sideline. Andy Reid said this week that Dunlap will play this weekend if the spasms go away, but if not, we're going to see some shuffling around.
Todd Herremans will slide over from RT to LT and Winston Justice will play for the first time this year at his familiar RT spot. Herremans talked today about the challenges of the move.
"Yeah, I mean, we don't have too many other options right now, so just making the transition like that, more than anything is, I know the technique, I know the steps I'm supposed to take and everything, it's just getting my body used to doing them on that side. I kind of got used to being over on the right again, and then the switch up. The main thing is we want to get our five best guys out there possible, whatever arrangement we have, you know, then go out there and win the game."
One of the biggest challenges is of course the matchup he'll get. He said that Brian Orapko is a different kind of rusher than Ryan Kerrigan.
"That's probably one of the changes. You know, [Redskins DE Ryan] Kerrigan is a real good player. He's more of a power rusher. You watch him, and he's getting off the ball and trying to get you on your heels and get your weight rolling, and then he just kind of plows into you. Orakpo is a really, really good player. He just has an arrangement of moves that he can give you. He can bull you if he wants, he can rip up field, or he can come underneath."

Does this make sense?
Not that much of our teams actions or inactions in some areas ever make sense… but just wondering about moving Herrdog to LT… considering that the RT is of bigger concern since Vick is a lefty. Wouldn’t we want to keep our known good asset on Vick’s blind side??
Why must our OLine theme song be Party Rock Anthem?
When Peters gets healthy
Our OL should look like this:
Peters – Mathis – Kelce – Watkins – Dunlap

Where does he fit? He is an awful OT who is getting eaten up at RT. LG Evan Mathis is playing at a probowl level and Danny Watkins is at RG. So, unless he knows how to play center….

I sure as hell don’t. Dunlap has played lights out since the 49ers game last year.
In Dunlap’s last 6 starts at OT (LT & RT):
7 QB hurries allowed, 2 QB hits and 1 sack allowed
In Herremans’ last 6 starts at RT:
16 QB hurries allowed, 4 QB hits
And Dunlap has actually shut down John Abraham, Shawne Merriman and Anthony Spencer. Herremans has had his lunch money taken away by a bunch of no names this year.

Wow.
Solid, succinct argument for Dunlap.
Well argued, counsellor.

I would like to thank my hands for being so great, for allowing me to type this post.

woah
I would have never thought….
But if Dunlap is so good, why did they even move Herremans to tackle…
Just wait until December..
I don’t know. I was advocating that the Eagles start Dunlap over Winston this year. Obviously I can’t see the practices but I’d assume that it has something to do with his practice demeanor/intensity and maybe something to do with picking up the new scheme.

Not terrible. not fantastic.

Exactly.
So where does he fit when Dunlap has been playing at a high level and Mathis has been playing at a probowl level? RG? Do you start him over Watkins? Has he even played RG in his career?

I usually agree with you d-jack but I can't on this one
Where does he fit?
He is our best healthy line on the team that can play four spots.
He is an awful OT who is getting eaten up at RT
Hate to see what you thought about devan or think about Kelce
LG Evan Mathis is playing at a probowl level
HAhahahahahahaha… thank you for that man, we all needed it.
ok, the giants suck.

Namdey Asomgua sucks.
We should have signed Antoneo Cromote so he could have taught his brother, cousin, son or however they are related how to play in teh slotz.
I also h8 his nice guy act. I herd he blows through teh hoes faster than runningbacks thru our dfense.

Best healthy lineman? He isn’t better than Mathis. And when healthy Jason Peters is better and King Dunlap is the better OT.
DeVan sucked ass. Kelce flashes, he has shown he can dominate at times. He is still learning the spot and you can see that he misses some assignments but I think the positives outweigh the negatives at this point. And he gets out in space as well as any lineman I’ve seen, he is like a full back on the move.
And how is Evan Mathis not playing at a probowl level? He has allowed 0 sacks and LeSean McCoy is averaging 5.5 yards per carry when running behind the left side of the line and 6.2 when running up the middle.

I don’t want to down play what Dunlap did, I just think you’re over hyping one guy to down play another.

not really. Shawne is just an average LB at best

Except for the fact that he is a DE who is a far better pass rusher than those two scrubs.

Being better than a few scrubs doesn’t make him an above average player.

In coverage...
…but he is still a talented pass rusher and run stopper at LB.
Why do people always think I'm playing the Race Card???
Is it because I'm black???
IMO he’s not special. Not better than a guy like Ahmad Brooks or Rob Ninkovich
by The Pied Piper on Oct 14, 2011 5:43 PM EDT up reply actions
Well....
…we are all entitled to our opinions and while I’m not arguing he is as effective as he once was, not many are or ever have been.
It just seemed like the basis of your original argument was that since he isn’t as good as he was, it’s not a big deal to mention shutting him down.
Why do people always think I'm playing the Race Card???

I don’t want to downplay what Dunlap did. I just don’t want to make him a starter and bench Herremans because of one good game he had against some average players.

Merriman hasn’t done shit since he stopped doing roids. He’s been injured and is slow as fuck. He wouldn’t start over any of our linebackers.
The Jruth shall be told.
That's odd
he’s listed as a linebacker on the team depth chart..? Or are you one of those people who consider Demarcus Ware, Clay Matthews, James Harrison, et al linebackers?
by ChillBillinChina on Oct 15, 2011 11:24 AM EDT up reply actions
You know what’s weird? I watched the game on Sunday and the Bills played a 4-3 defense and Merriman was a down DE for a vast majority of the game.

Best healthy lineman?
Yes, meaning because Peters is hurt HerrDawg is the best Olineman we have at the moment.
And when healthy Jason Peters is better
Isn’t this what I said? and Isnt this the same statement you just didn’t understand?
And how is Evan Mathis not playing at a probowl level? He has allowed 0 sacks and LeSean McCoy is averaging 5.5 yards per carry when running behind the left side of the line and 6.2 when running up the middle.
Well Mccoy cuts back so much this stat could be “sicklic”, Is this including runs that started to the right then Shady cut back to the left or just runs to the left where mccoy didnt cut back at all? And you wont give up many sacks: a.)From mike vicks strong side and B.) from the Guard position, since Mike sees the left side and the guard is usually taking on a DT which mike can easily get buy. How many hurries and or tipped passes has Mathis allowed would be a better question/stat to show.

Mathis is playing extremely well
He’s currently being rated the second best Left Guard in the league. We actually have a lot of good talent on the line, we just need it to f’ing settle into place. Peters getting injured was the last thing we needed.
ehh.. Better than I thought at first, Ill admit
But they still are talking about run blocking and most of our long run plays came of plays that started one way only to end another. Its crazy to watch Shady hit the cut back in full stride, the guy is smooth. I know we like to peg guys early sometimes but for as young as he is, he’ the best RB i’ve seen in an Eagle Uni, but he’s not #36 (yet).

At the very least, he’s better than Watkins.

I don’t think that’s likely, but it would free Herremans up to take the DC spot.
AR should have to wear a Flava Flav necklace until he learns how to manage a fucking clock.
I am the proud target of temper tantrums.
Personally I prefer
Peters – Mathis – Kelce – Herremans – Dunlap
I like Watkins and he will surely get much better as the season progresses, but I feel that this is the best OL we can put on the field. Why keep a very good interior lineman off the field? To get Watkins experience?
I would like to say R.I.P to the epic gif in the eternal thread you were a beautiful pair...

Where they say there is speculation. That brandon graham could move to linebacker?
by con-vick on Oct 14, 2011 4:26 PM EDT via mobile reply actions
C’mon, this is just speculation. We surely would not put a player, who is coming off major knee surgery and has not played in the better part of a year, in at a position he is totally not familiar with, in a defensive scheme he has never played in? Amirite guys?
by captain nodar on Oct 14, 2011 5:11 PM EDT up reply actions
Not so sure I would dislike this move.
Though EXTREMELY radical, it might be a good fix to our problems. Look at it like this…Graham is probably an excellent fit for the Wide 9s, but you have to take Cole or Babin off the field to get him in at DE. We have trouble playing the run, and though he is undersized for a DE, he plays the run well for that position, meaning he should play it very well for a linebacker. Think about it like a double tight end set. Is a tight end as good a blocker as an OT? Hell no…but he does a much better job than a receiver would do while still being able to provide a different dimension than an OT would.
Why do people always think I'm playing the Race Card???
Is it because I'm black???
Pure speculation. I doubt the Eagles would take a DE coming from injury and put him at LB. But then again, this is the same team that made their OL coach their D coordinator.
by The Pied Piper on Oct 14, 2011 5:17 PM EDT up reply actions
im actually pretty anxious to see graham in a wide 9, this will suit him perfectly
