Obviously we aren't in the prettiest position right now. But looking back at Reid's tenure this isn't the first time we've been in a predicament. This being said I have little faith in winning the Super Bowl with Reid, but the following will show a trend in which should give a glimpse of hope as to why we might be able to turn this around.
We'll skip this for obvious reasons (rebuilding year, new schemes, etc)
Started 1-2, 3-3; and won 8 of last 10
This was a young team, and McNabb's first full year as starter.
Started 0-1, 2-2, 3-3; won 8 of last 10
First year we started to look legitimate as a Super Bowl threat, another slow start but we got rolling.
Started 0-1, 3-2; won 9 of last 11
Not really a bad start here, but still not a great start out of the gate for how good this team was.
Started 0-2, 2-3; won 10 of last 11 including 9-game win streak
This was an ugly start. McNabb had a thumb issue at the beginning of the season and this marked the second Miracle at the Meadowlands which kept us from starting 2-4.
Best start of the Reid era, 7-0 and actually made a key adjustment following the ugly loss.
This is one of the exceptions, we started pretty well despite losing another opener at 4-2, but following the TO drama and McNabb's hernia we seen a bad finish.
Started 4-1, 4-4, 5-6; won last 5
Great start, hangover from beating Dallas in the TO game, McNabb injury, big rally including the 3 straight Decemeber divisional road games behind Jeff Garcia
Started 1-3, 2-4, 3-5, 5-8; won last 3
This was an ugly season but it still showed a trend of stringing together a winning streak, this was an injury marred season.
Started 2-3, 5-4, 5-4-1, 5-5-1; won 4 of last 5
I will always regret this team more than any others because it was the most painful, yet believable team we've ever had. This team should have beat Arizona and I believe we would have beaten Pittsburgh, but I regress.. This team had a bad start, then followed it up with that hideous middle of the season run including the lowest of the lows, that ugly tie and benching McNabb. They turned it around and rallied into the playoffs, even though they required help after almost losing it again after the Redskins game.
Started 1-1, 5-2, 5-4; won 6 of 7 (6 in a row)
Actually a very good start, the first loss was to the Super Bowl champions with Kolb in his first start. Otherwise a great start, but we did hit a lull mid-season after dropping 2 in a row inducing yet another panic. But we did string together 6 wins before the ugly finish.
0-1, 2-2, 4-3; won 6 of next 7
Easy to remember. We panicked following our ugly loss to Washington and pulled it together.
So looking back at our trends I do believe we can make a run and potentially make the playoffs. I'm not holding my breath, but we kind of have that story book feel and we possess the talent, so for them to all get hot and string wins together wouldn't be impossible to predict. Obviously there are glaring weaknesses, but we've hidden our backup QB in 2002, or WRs in 2003, and LBs in 2004 and 2006 so I don't doubt we can make this work.
And I didn't include any playoff losses, because like I opened with, I don't really trust Reid to deliver us, I believe our weaknesses and lack of in-game coaching will always snake-bite our Reid-led seasons, but I do see reason to believe that we can turn this nightmare of a season into some more hype and make a run to at least threaten to get a playoff spot. It wouldn't be a shock if we just have a poorly assembled and poorly coached team but here's a thought.
