Like most of us I am really unhappy with the performance of the team this year and I agree that something should be done (later Juan) but people should keep some things in perspective. The Eagles have not played well but we have also played a much tougher schedule than we anticipated. Did anyone really think that the Bills and 49ers would be 5-1? Did you really think the Giants would be competitive considering all their injuries? The real point of this post is to talk about the possible replacements for Andy Reid. Let's look at the names I've heard mentioned after the jump.
Jeff Fisher also has ties to the Eagles. Fisher went 8-8 five times! Would Eagles fans stand for that? He went 4-12 and 5-11 as well. He went to the SuperBowl once and lost (just like somebody else I know).
Bill Cowher is a tough guy which appeals to Eagles fans and he has a Superbowl win. So far, no coach has won a Superbowl for two different teams but that doesn't mean much to me because it could happen. In route to winning that Superbowl Cowher was allowed to come back after two 6-10 seasons a 7-9 season and an 8-8 campaign.
My point here is that some good coaches (coaches Eagles fans want) have hit some rough spots. We have been spoiled by Reid's success and have come to expect it year after year but sometimes, things just go bad. I'm not giving him a total pass, there are some terrible things going on but I think Lurie will look at his pass record and give him at least another year and I wouldn't completely disagree with that.
