Keys to the Game (Offense)

Wild_Eagle wrote a very good article on the defensive gameplan so i will skip that and do the offense, analyzing every level.

QB- There is no secret here. If you blitz Vick he will play poorly. Time and time again teams would send their db on a blitz to either contain or sack Vick. We saw this with Winfield in the viking game and Rolle/ Ross in both of the giant games. The bears also got a lot of pressure (manning was in his face all damn day).  I dont understand why the eagles did not turn to a hard count and expose the blitz. I mean cmon. Opposing teams use the hard count all day and sims always jumps and exposes his blitz, allowing the qb to change the play/ protection. Vick needs to read the blitzes. Reid and Marty need to tell (maybe even teach) Vick how to do this before this sundays game. You can bet that woodson will be coming in on a blitz off the corner. There is another thing to note about woodson. If he knows he cant reach the qb he will play the passing lane. This scares me because vick is only 6' and trying to get it over a jumping woodson can be very dangerous (and i have a feeling that vick will try this atleast once). Woodson is also good at disguising blitzes. If vick sees a corner blitz coming, we should try some draw plays and run slams or guts. Quick passes would work great but i think Vick needs another year to learn how to do that.

RB-  The key to the game people! Several points here. Having a strong run game to begin the game will open up pa, which really helps our offense and will keep the defense on their heels and lower the amounts of blitzes. Another reason we can keep rodgers and co on the bench. Obvious i know but it is crucial. Like i mentioned above, if vick sees a corner blitz, he should audible to a slam. Thats one less defender on the play (who also happens to be a great tackling corner!). I think the screen game will be big as well. This will slow down the blitz as well. This did not work well the viking game because jared allen is a beast and can recognize screens easily. Why we did not try the other side i have no clue whatsoever. A play from our rb that i have no seen since westy played is exposing the lb that cover our rb. Remember westy on pierce 1 on 1. westy ran a simple route in the middle of the field, beat pierce, and had a td. If he get that one on one, i dont see why we wouldn't attack their lbs. To be honest, i think their mlbs are the weak link and we should attack them there. Shadys blitz pick up is of no concern and might be the best in the league to be honest.

WR- We all talk about desean this desean that, maclin this and maclin that, but i really do believe that our best wr on sunday should be cooper (the likelyhood of this happening is very very slim). You might think im crazy but i do have my reasons. After watching all the nfl.com game highlights (i dont have tiem to do real game tape analysis cuz im a pre-med student) i think one thing is very evident. If we can matchup cooper with woodson on seam and deep routes and fades we might be in business. woodson is old and does not seem to get much air on jump balls. he is 6'1'' but think he can be had. I have seen calvin johnson, armstrong from the skins, and hernandez from the pats expose woodson on deep balls. I would be cautious about attacking williams, who is one hell of a corner, because he is very athletic, but im sure we will see desean vs williams deep. Avant and Maclin have the potential to have strong games as well running across the middle, where i see the packers the weakest. I honestly dont think desean will have that big of a game. The packers jam well, which we all know desean does not like at all. Both williams and woodson have long arms as well, which further help them in jamming. If desean ca get a clean release we can have his, but i have never seen him do this and is usually only characteristic of taller wrs.

TE- Celek is my boy but can seem to string together good games. Celek can be a big asset this sunday, running both seem routes and screens (he breaks tackles pretty well). I think that they will try to get vick to roll to his right and pass it back to celek who slips underneath to the left. The only other thing here is not to leave celek 1 on 1 with clay (please oh please). I want to see him chip and 2x team when needed. Celek has seen balls thrown his way but has had numerous drops. I really hope he breaks out of his slump here.

FB- Schmitt should have got some real recognition this season. Just keep doing what you're doing. thats all i can ask.

O-line- I really do not know what to say here. MJG went down last week and im not sure of his status. If he can't go it will be a huge blow to this o-line, which already blows. BJ raji is a great rusher (6.5 sacks) and the interior if this o-line is our weakness (a gaps) though i think mike has had a decent season (minus the titans game where he botched the snap). Communication and a nasty demeanor is all i can ask for here.
