Birds LB coach Shuey latest victim of coaching purge
The Eagles have had just one Pro Bowl linebacker in the last decade -- Jeremiah Trotter, a Ray Rhodes draft pick. In three seasons with Shuey as their position coach, Eagles linebackers generated a total of 14 sacks and four interceptions in 48 regular-season games.

Linebackers have stunk, but the position hasn't exactly been stocked with top talent..

Samuel took to Twitter this morning to criticize the All-Pro voting done by the Associated Press' panel of 50 media members. He was not named to either the first or second team, finishing in fifth overall with 12 votes.

By the way, Asante Samuel "led league in QB passer rating into his coverage (31.7), only allowed 141 rec yards at just 7.4 per reception, long of 24 all year." He was fantastic this year. That said, the fact that he missed time could have been what hurt him here...

Dude,

Woodson is pretty damn good.. He’s not shut down but I’d make the argument that he does more for his team than Revis and Nnamdi…

He’s a playmaker and can do everything exceptionally well.

Wow.

So correct me if I’m wrong but we’re going to have completely new defensive coaching staff? New DL, LB, and DB coach, new DC. If we can fill the other positions with someone half as talented and dedicated as Washburn then I’m very excited to see the kind of defense we have when the 2011 season starts (whenever that’ll end up being). Also I’m sure that school will be teaching snowball and battery throwing, as well as getting drunk enough to throw up on other children. For the flack the Eagles and their fan base take for being the big bad bullies, the organization does so much charitable work. Sucks that it gets over looked due to the actions of a couple idiots peppered throughout history, apparently no other team has ever had asshole fans or players.

So this may have been stated. … But Ed Reed missed as many games as Asante. … And was still voted first team AP All-Pro. …

Folks just hate on my guy. … They say he cat tackle. … Which may be true. … But Asante had BODIES this season. .. W/ the fines to prove it. … The man plays his best regular-season EVER IMO. … And he still can’t get any ‘respect. …’ I guess that term REALLY is overrated. …

yah…Asante deserved to be All Pro this year. It’s sad that even journalists who write about football for a living seemingly vote on name recognition. Yah, all the corners who were selected had great years, but Asante played at a ridiculous level. It’d be hard to convince me that he didn’t earn it over one of those four.

assante definitely all pro. honestly woodson did way worse than assante this year. williams was that true corner that was good. assante was ATLEAST 2nd team. we have such a good corner on one side. and such bad ones at the other

Eagles Defense was bad

I believe that Assante got over looked due to two factors, his missed time and how poorly the rest of the eagles defense played all season. For example, in the playoff game, the packers offensive gameplan eliminated Assante from being a factor. Essentially the other side of the field was so bad they didn’t need to even try and throw in his direction. That would make his numbers look better.
