What future Eagles might we see at this year's East-West Shrine Game?

If you caught the East-West Shrine Game last year, you got to see future Eagles QB Mike Kafka lead a game-winning drive for the East when he found future Packers TE Andrew Quarless in the end zone with no time left on the clock.  You might have also seen future Eagles DT/DE Daniel Te'o-Nesheim in that game as well.

This year's East-West Shrine Game will be this Saturday, and if history holds true, you're likely to see at least one future mid-round Eagle draft pick playing in that game. The Eagles have drafted at least one East-West Shrine Game participant in each of the last 4 years, some good, some bad:

Eagle draftedYearRound
Daniel Te'o-Nesheim 2010 3
Mike Kafka 2010 4
Fenuki Tupou 2009 5
Quintin Demps 2008 4
King Dunlap 2008 7
Brent Celek 2007 5

I requested credentials for the game (still pending), since the jerks at the Senior Bowl already denied me, although I'm not holding my breath. The entire roster for this year's game can be found here, and for your convenience I've compiled a list of the players that appear in our sister site Mocking The Draft's Top 200 (after the jump):

Now I may be a little biased but I think Brandon Bair would be a great fit for us but now that I don’t know what our new defense is going to be like I guess I should hold off on that. I think Andy will still want an attacking defense so I think Bair will be a great fit.

I think we should always call him “East West Shrine Game Legend” Mike Kafka

I like the way you think.

Eagles- 10-6, NFC East Division Champs, but still a disappointing year!
Phillies- 4 weeks til Aces and Catchers report!
Flyers- Looking pretty good so far

Pat Devlin’s going to be a star (I’m still mad he left PSU, though I understand why).

He really had a great career at Delaware.

I remember when...

Devlin & Downingtown East knocked my HS (Neshaminy) out of the playoffs my Sr. year. He had like 3tds & a ton of yards. That’s when he was committed to Miami. Too bad that Delaware D couldn’t hold on and win the championship this year. Devlin is a good QB & I hope he succeeds at the next level.

I put us drafting him at #45 in my post a few days back.

Don’t you mean “If you caught the East-West Shrine game last year”?

Hard to call anything past the 3rd round a “bust.”

by JimmyK on Jan 17, 2011 3:17 PM EST up reply actions

Wouldn't call Kafka a bust.

Sure, he wasn’t spectacular in preseason, but we haven’t seen a whole lot from him (not that I hope we have to anytime soon).

Kafka is a backup for life

I agree. 3rd and below can carry the bust lable. I tend to include 4th round picks as well since we always seem to stockpile in that area

huge syracuse fan and would love delonte carter as a backup

Trevor Laws: "Thank Giants for kicking to (Desean)."
Mike Vick: "Why would they kick to Desean?"
Matt Dodge: "Snap too high!"
NJ Eagle: "Fly Eagles Fly!!!"

Same here.

Hard runner. Good hands (in terms of fumbling, though his pass-catching is just fine). He would be a good third-down/change of pace back. His blocking needs work though. Hopefully he addresses that leading up to the draft and beyond.

I'm just hoping for no more 3rd round reaches like Bryan Smith and Daniel Te'o-Nesheim

I hated that Bryan Smith pick. Daniel Te’o-Nesheim may turn out to be something, but I’m not exactly counting on it.

Vick will go Bad Newz Kennels on that shitass secondary. - EvilBanner

Honestly that’s how I look at all 3rd round picks… I think they’re guys you feel have potential to be something but you don’t count on it.

We continuously draft players in the third round that other teams would not consider until the fifth. I’d very much like that to stop.
