Trading Kevin Kolb Might be harder than I thought

I was reading an interesting article from Bird's Eye View, and wanted to share some thoughts and ideas. You can read the article here. It basicly talks about the idea of trading Kolb, which I think we've beaten to death here, but the thought I found interesting is how he CBA affects any possible trade.

It beaks down like this... no trades can take place until the first day of the new football year, which will be March 4th. The same day as free agency starts, and also the first day That any lockout would start barring a new CBA. That being said, there can be NO trade until there's a new CBA. So, and there's some 'if's' here, if there's no CBA, and talks drag out until the draft, there will still be a draft. The if isn't for if there will be a draft, but if there's no CBA. The draft will take place as scheduled. But if there's no CBA we cannot trade Kolb until after there is one. So here are my concerns...

First, i do see there being a lockout. I really don't see any way around it. The owners want too much and the players want to give too little. I think they'll come to an agreement at some point, and we'll still have football next year, but it may take until the June July timeframe.

Second, given that would we still trade Kolb?If we do it would be after a CBA, and probably after the draft. Would we be willing to trade him for a 2012 pick? I'm not sure about that, especally seeing as there's no idea where those picks will be. We could end up with some late second rounders at that point, I can't see that happeneing, and I don't think Howie and Andy would pull the trigger on that kind of trade. Would we trade him for another player? Doubtful, player for player trades are rare enough, don't see it.

Third, if we don't trade him, do we lose all value he has? I think yes. I think he'll be good, but Vick is the man here, so he's not staying. If because of the CBA we're forced to keep him, I think he walks in FA next year, and we get nothing for him.

I know we're all envisioning trade scenarios now that the season is over, I've been too, but I think this throws a big kink into some of those trade ideas. We might be able to trade him for the rights to a player just drafted, but would we simply trade him for one rookie that has never played a down? I wouldn't make that trade.

So here's hoping to a new CBA BEFORE the draft!
