Because I live in Atlanta and work as a school teacher, I've had extra time on my hands. We've been off 3 days, but with the same conditions in Philly, we MIGHT have had 2 hours late.
Anyway with my extra time, I had a few thoughts. Thanks to all those who chimed in on my last fan shot. I'm not sure if there is an unwritten rule on how many of these you can write in a week. If I've exceeded that limit, I apologize. There have been a few thoughts that have been bothering me for a while.
Howard "The King" Eskin: I grew up listening to this guy "pioneer" sports talk in Philly. HIs schtick has made him millions. Only in America can a guy who doesn't prepare and his little knowledge of sports outside of Philly attain so much wealth and prestige. I'm not knocking the guy's hustle. In fact, more power to him.
However, I have a real problem with him "jocking" Mike Vick. Recently, Howard and Ike Reese interviewed Vick. However, when I was visiting my family in Philly this summer, Eskin adamantly stated how the Eagles should cut Vick and sign...Marc Bulger (???????????????). At the time I almost drove my car off the road. Bulger is/was DONE. At least Vick had his wheels (and now we know that's not all he could do). I recall a listener who called in and lauded Vick (she sounded like one of my aunts), and Howard tried to make HER sound crazy.
Don't get me wrong: NOBODY knew Vick would blow up. But Marc Bulger? That's totally ludicrous. How does that guy have a job? Like Don King said, "Only in America."
I know, I know. Who cares what Eskin has to say. Nevertheless, I brought this up to illustrate how off Howard is, and to illustrate how "on" the BGN is. I've gotten more insight on this website than philly.com or any other venue. Thanks, and keep up the good work. BGN is the anti-Eskin.
