Nice start to the season with an Eagles late game. I was getting ready for a season of Redskins games, so this will be a nice delay for a week.

Can’t tell you how stoked I am about the National Television.
I think I only need 2 more games to be picked to air in Denver and it justifies my ditching Sunday Ticket.

by cavortingEagle on Sep 8, 2010 2:25 PM EDT reply actions

Do you already have DirecTV, or would you be buying the online version?

by JimmyK on Sep 8, 2010 2:33 PM EDT up reply actions

I got DirecTV because cable HD sucked, but Comcast recently upgraded their HD capacity in my neighborhood so, I expect I’m going back to them in the near future.

by cavortingEagle on Sep 8, 2010 2:58 PM EDT up reply actions

Ah, gotcha. The reason I asked is because I had the NFL Sunday Ticket online last year (they offered it to residents of Manhattan), and I have a review of the service coming out this week. And I’ll save you the suspense – Don’t buy it.

by JimmyK on Sep 8, 2010 3:03 PM EDT up reply actions

Question

It says that I HAVE to have a regular Sunday Ticket subscription to get the online one. Is that what you did to see yours online?

by LegendKnight22 on Sep 8, 2010 3:43 PM EDT up reply actions

No, you don’t need the regular DirecTV service to get the online version of the Sunday Ticket.

by JimmyK on Sep 8, 2010 3:48 PM EDT up reply actions

If they told you that (and it wouldn’t surprise me if they did), they’re flat out lying. New subscriber to DirecTV = likely commission for the sales person. Online Sunday Ticket = not so much.

by JimmyK on Sep 8, 2010 3:51 PM EDT up reply actions

correct me if I am wrong, but didnt you need a Manhattan billing address to sign up for the online directv w/o regular programming??

VOID!!!

by dt3 on Sep 8, 2010 6:54 PM EDT up reply actions

Yup, used my work address.

by JimmyK on Sep 8, 2010 9:20 PM EDT up reply actions

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/fasterforward/2010/09/directv_opens_nfl_sunday_ticke.html

Looks like the program doesnt even officially start until tomorrow so I would lean more towards “uninformed” and away from “flat out lying”

The big question is how they follow through on this disclaimer that “you need to be unable to receive direcTV programming” to qualify for the offer.

VOID!!!

I hope that review comes out soon. Me and my roommates were gonna order it

by HankM on Sep 8, 2010 5:11 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Yeah I wanted to get it too

I’m tired of trying to find crappy streams online and having them shut down on me

by FlyEagles15 on Sep 8, 2010 5:44 PM EDT up reply actions

Great news for the out of town fan!

Now I can watch this in HD from NYC instead of on my laptop streaming low res from a friend’s TV in Philly.

It’s rough when you move away from home…
:(

by flygirl on Sep 8, 2010 2:28 PM EDT reply actions

no shit … I just moved to NC and put a slingbox at my parents house so I won’t miss the games.

by Whodie126 on Sep 8, 2010 3:01 PM EDT up reply actions

How does that work?

by JimmyK on Sep 8, 2010 3:07 PM EDT up reply actions

hook slingbox up to dvr or box, download app onto laptop or phone, control tv with said dvr or box from laptop or phone using slingbox. it’s so awesome.

by Bleediots on Sep 8, 2010 6:56 PM EDT up reply actions

oh. should prob scroll down.

by Bleediots on Sep 8, 2010 6:57 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, I am interested in this too. Do you have to watch what they are watching or can you change the channel (and keep the channel there the same). Can you watch live or is it only recorded stuff? What is the pricing model?

by JoshuaR on Sep 8, 2010 3:48 PM EDT up reply actions

I used slingbox last year to watch the eagles while I was away at school. You do have to watch whatever is on that television, but you can change the channel from your computer. When you go to the website, you log in and can start watching the TV that the slingbox is connected to. There is a button that says show remote, with which you can change the channel. It looks just like a normal remote, so you can get to your recorded videos.

As for quality, last year I had a computer that was on its last leg and used wireless internet, and the quality wasn’t the greatest…but neither was anything on my computer. I recently replaced my computer and am now using an ethernet cord. The quality is very good…it’s not quite like you’re watching a television, but I think it’s as close as anyone can reasonably expect. Also, you’re a minute or so behind the live action, so you might get a call from your family to talk about a play that is about to happen…so watch out for that.

As far as pricing goes, there are a few different models and it really depends on what you’re looking for.

by eagleyosh on Sep 8, 2010 4:01 PM EDT up reply actions

Thanks for the info. Is it monthly pricing or a one time fee? If the tv you are using is not on, can you still watch anyway (I assume you can but just want to know)?

by JoshuaR on Sep 8, 2010 4:08 PM EDT up reply actions

TV doesn’t have to be on for it to work…just need the slingbox to be on!

by eagleyosh on Sep 8, 2010 6:08 PM EDT up reply actions

It’s just a one-time purchase, or do they also hit you with a monthly fee?

by JimmyK on Sep 8, 2010 4:11 PM EDT up reply actions

this pretty much sums it up … and it’s a one time price no monthly fee.

I got a SOLO from Newegg.com for $150 shipped they have an HD box too but I’m not hooking it up to an HD cable box so it wasn’t worth the extra $100+.

They call me The Professor.

by Whodie126 on Sep 8, 2010 4:39 PM EDT up reply actions

also, you have to watch whatever is on the TV, have to have high speed internet, and only one person can watch at a time.

For me it was way worth it over the pricey Sunday ticket which I have friends who pay for and it’s horrible.

check it out here … slingbox

Boom. Done.

One more question… Can you actually walk into a store and buy one, or are all orders online?

by JimmyK on Sep 8, 2010 4:46 PM EDT up reply actions

best buy availability

looks like you can walk in and get one, but availability obviously varies from store to store.

LOL @ St Louis

They get to watch GB @ Philly, and not Arizona @ St Louis… is this due to local area black out or is Fox trying to help them out by not showing them the ugly truth of their team…

by Sparki on Sep 8, 2010 2:32 PM EDT reply actions

My guess is that there was a mistake made?

by grucifer on Sep 8, 2010 2:37 PM EDT up reply actions

Probably haven’t sold out the game yet, but I’m sure they will by gametime.

by JimmyK on Sep 8, 2010 2:39 PM EDT up reply actions

yea tons of blackouts, the map could change accordingly.

Fuck me, I hate having to watch the niners game instead of the Eagles.

Oh well…
I will be watching it on the internet so its not all bad!

by Ichiban on Sep 8, 2010 3:45 PM EDT reply actions

Early game

I’m stuck with Detroit vs. Chicago. Since living in Wisconsin I can understand this but could there be a worse match up to watch!!

by slandog on Sep 8, 2010 4:25 PM EDT reply actions

Browns Vs Buccaneers? Cowboys Vs Redskins?

RIP Jim Johnson, best ever.

by AZ Eagle on Sep 8, 2010 5:23 PM EDT reply actions

Good thing I have Sunday Ticket because then I would be stuck with Seattle/San Francisco while the Eagle game was going on. The two early games aren’t bad Cincinatti/New England and New York/Carolina but there are other games I want to check out too.

by The Legend on Sep 8, 2010 6:09 PM EDT reply actions

i fucking hate the seahawks

i always have to watch them play the rams and shit instead of the eagles

by Sabonis4Ever on Sep 8, 2010 6:42 PM EDT reply actions

Take it you’re from Oregon since your name has Sabonis in it? I live in Florence.

by The Legend on Sep 8, 2010 8:03 PM EDT up reply actions

I think anyone with DirecTV is in luck, at least this week

I saw that they are running a preview of the Sunday Ticket this weekend, to whet the appetite of those who are thinking of taking the plunge…

Their site is down. Did anyone else see this?

They do that with every sport. You get the first week free. In other sports it might be the first two weeks but I think it is just one.
