Stop What You're Doing: ESPN's 24th installment of their preseason power rankings are out!
| 15 (17) | Eagles | 11-5-0 | A bad third preseason game has people wondering how good Kevin Kolb is. He's good, but he's no Donovan McNabb. (Clayton) |
You know, I had a feeling that preseason game in Kansas City would define Kevin Kolb's career. And now ESPN's John Clayton has confirmed it. I guess we may as well start figuring out what QB the Eagles will be drafting in the 1st round next year.

kolb looks bad...
and the Eagles go up two spots. I guess with a few early season losses we could crack the top ten.
I'm not drunk I'm just drinking.
If you use Clayton’s logic, then that sounds about right. I have no idea how he keeps his job. He should feel guilty cashing his paycheck…

It’s an ‘Average Out’ thing. Kaursky (sp?) put us at #11.

second in the division
sounds fair to me. only time will tell what the eagles can pull off though

I wouldn't take him...
Case Keenum, while capable of putting up pinball like QB stats, has this little issue with throwing tons of interceptions. Isn’t there another QB in the division who’s prone to doing that?
Oh yeah, his name’s Tony Romo.
The Swamp's home field advantage is so devastating, it stifled the Florida offense as well as the other team's...

For all the crap we give Wil Wheaton, he can still tackle better than Asante Samuel...

Defense
I am trying to tell anyone who cares to listen that this defense is going to be anywhere from really good to scary good. Kolb does not have to be a great QB for the Eagles to win 10 games. If he stinks, no defense can overcome that, but if he’s just ok, then turn it over to the mean guys who have a little something to prove, and that’s all you need to do.

uhhh.....
I’m still worried about our CB’s and Saftey depth. Yeah. our d-line is MUCH BETTER. LB’s are MUCH BETTER, but beyond that im worried. If Samuel goes down(knock on wood), then we are done for the season.

I like the D too
We added Bradley, Sims, Graham & Allen (among others) to the group from last year. Sheldon is the most significant loss from a D that cut its starting safety, made its starting DE a rotational guy, and added pass-rushing DTs and LBs that can cover. And I’m long on the record as thinking Hobbs is adequate.
Should be a lot different than last year. As for how much better, we’ll see.

I've never understood Clayton.
His rankings are often way off what the others are voting, and every time I see him on ESPN he’s just repeating the same drivel about how the Eagles have a terrible defense and how Donovan McNabb is a top 5 QB.
He bothers me. Clayton, Mosley, can we get somebody that doesn’t hate the Eagles and knows something about football?

It’s been working for me. You don’t know anything, I don’t read/watch/otherwise patronize you.
Me alone makes no difference in the grand scheme, but it surely feels like I enjoy the analysis I read a lot more.

to be fair
kolbs regular season game against kansas city started to define his career in many “fans” eyes
Oh no, one bad game and Kolb is doomed to have a bad career
Yet Sanchez throws a 5 pick game against the Bills (Last Year), and is still supposed to lead a team to the Super Bowl
well….the jets are lead by their defense and rushing attack..the passing attack comes third…eagles on the other hand.
well put

This is what he had to say about the cowboys
The debut of WR Dez Bryant in a game has taken almost as long as the Cowboys took to build the new stadium.
…and he ranked them 4th…
Can somebody please help me comprehend what in the hell that means?

Claytons dry attempt at humor is reflecting on how Bryant has been completely absent in preseason.
Clayton should stick to his day job……..cancel that. Clayton should stick to his hot dog stand.

Well by their accounts we should be primed to take Locker #1.

I’m still waiting for John Clayton to attack Kolb with a crowbar late at night… of course, I suppose if he tried it, Kolb would just shoot the fucker.
Let the beasting begin.
What is this? Only 47 words, yet not a fanshot. You need to add at least 28 “75WORDS” to make this fanpost be up to BGN standards. I am very disappointed in you Jimmy.

Mummer's Parade Power Rankings
The Downtowners have looked good in the preseason, but I am expecting big things from the Avenuers. The South Philly Vikings are down two spots from last week, but I wouldn’t worry. According to league sources, “Ever since they started, they have been innovators of the WOW factor, always bringing out bigger and better stuff. Their record of first and second place finishes speaks for itself.”
1 Cahills (Mumming Sabbatical )
2 2nd Street Shooters
3 Downtowners
4 Clevemore
5 South Philly Vikings

Who do you have starting in your MFL (Mummers Fantasy League) Fantasy Team?
I got shafted and didn’t get a pick until the second round. But I have Greater Kensington at String Bands. If they get hurt (or too drunk), I have Quaker City coming off the bench.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
One game doesn’t mean jack. if he can rate K.Kolbs future after a couple of quarters, that jackass is in the wrong profession. He should be a super GM genius. NOT….
We’ll see if he knows as much as he thinks he does real soon }:-)
nice rankings.....
Not. The Eagles got rid of one of the main weak points in the O-Line, Stacy Andrews. In every preseason game he was the one getting beat. Given a more solid line, Kolb would have looked better.
Did I miss something?
He said the Kevin Kolb is no Donovan McNabb and guess what – at this point in his career I agree with Clayton.
He also has the Eagles ranked 15th which is probably about where I would rank them coming into the season. A team that did win 11 games last year but is ‘rebuilding’ this year with significant personnel changes on both sides of the ball including 5 new starters on defense and 2 on offense (if you count McCoy).
Read the first sentence again and tell me it doesn’t sound in the least bit ridiculous.
I put a dollar in a change machine. Nothing changed.

John Clayton
probably only has a job because he’s bald and has glasses. He looks smart. If you pay attention to most of what he says, though, he pretty rarely knows what he’s talking about very much.
Also, why does he have such a hard-on for McNabb and such hatred for Kolb? I understand that McNabb has been great during his tenure thus far in the NFL (Don’t think this year will pan out too well for him, but that’s not a knock against him, it’s a knock against the Redskins), but it’s not like he was the only competent football player on the entire Eagles team over the past decade, as Clayton seems to very firmly believe.
I can’t wait to laugh at John Clayton’s ugly mug when the Eagles make the playoffs this year and Kolb is a good fit in the West Coast Offense and a great leader.
R.I.P. JJ (7/28/09)
I don't think Clayton is completely clueless ...
… he sometimes makes perfectly well-supported, thoughtful points. (Not that I watch all that much anymore)
I just don’t think anything I’ve seen posted here about the Eagles falls into that category. It’s all “The Eagles will be much worse because Kolb is not McNabb.” As though nothing else about the Eagles has changed since last year.
It’s kinda lazy. I understand, I’ve done writeups before where you only get one line and sometimes you just use the easiest thing you can think of … but as a fan who has watched the team get a complete overhaul this offseason, it’s wholly unsatisfying. I guess knowing how the sauce is made, so to speak, sort of takes some of the credibility away for me anyway.
