Am I the only one the that thinks the eagles should make the playoffs...

I know I'm pretty new here but I been a life long eagle fan and we're talking like we through  in the towel before the season even started. Kolb suppose to have better accuratice then Mac 5 right. Thats the one thing we all wish Mac had but never had, how many times have we seen the ball thrown to the dirt with a wide open wide reciever standing there looking. Eveybody says well Kolb doesn't have the strong arm... we run a west coast offense or a least a form of one..lol..we don't a cannon arm to run the offense you just have to know the system and if Kolb doesn't know it by now we should cut him... I said it.... Our defense is looking like a championship defense with lots of speed of speed and with all that speed on the line and the pressure we can put on the qb we really don't have to have spectular db's just some out there that can sit for three seconds. I think Samuels and Hobbs will be good enough and who ever we put at nickel...oh and just for the record I hate Hason...the only reason I feel we lose six games and come in the playoffs a wild card team is our depth at rb... lets pray to the football Gods the Coy never gets hurt... Amen.... and our shakey offensive line but with the pick up of wells and Jackson feeling like he can be ready by the first game where looking pretty good. Let it be said here WE'RE GOING TO BEAT GREEN BAY 32-28.... I SAID IT...

No, you are not the only one..

Kolb, Desean, Maclin, Weaver, Celek and Lesean combined with our OL should be able to put some points on the board.

Our Defense looks sick..

To tell you the truth I think we can take the Cowboys this year… And the Giants… And gasp I’d take us over the Jets.

No.

I’ll second that you aren’t the only one.

It’s very reasonable to look at the Eagles as an 11-5 team that makes major improvments on defense (Graham, Allen, Sims, Bradley) fully capable of compensating for what they might lose in switching from McNabb to Kolb … unless you’re like DJax and don’t believe there will be any dropoff there :)

That’s exactly how I’ve been looking at it! Now, our schedule is harder this year than last year, but that’s a difference of a game or two. Not the difference in 11-5 and a losing season. The only justification I can see for thinking we’ll have a losing season is expecting injury (which could be said of every team) or Kolb failing. If someone thinks Kolb will fail, like EB does, then I can see where he’d come up with a low prediction. If someone thinks Kolb will be average or better though, I just don’t see how this isn’t a winning team!

by AZ Eagle on Sep 6, 2010 4:23 PM EDT up reply actions

I do think he will fail.

And I think it will be a 6 or 7 win season. But I think the secondary, not Kolb will be largely responsible. I don’t think Hobbs can stop anybody. Can someone please tell me why Banner didn’t think Cromartie was worth a conditional pick?

Why

IMP was right. He was nothing special and he’s a head case. Hes got 6 kids dfrom 6 differnt women. He had one season where he hawked 10 INTs, other than that, he wasn’t even close to being one of the upper tier corners.

Remember a lot of the guys we got rid of this year were considered attitude problems as well, we don’t need a Cromartie

I don't know if it's that as much as...

I really do see glaring holes in the defense. And I don’t see Kolb being responsible for that. And for you Cromartie haters, he’d be the best corner on this team.

And for you Cromartie haters, he’d be the best corner on this team.

No he wouldn’t. He doesn’t cover well that well, he had five picks over last two years so he’s not turnover happy, and he despises tackling. Seriously, Samuels as least put a shoulder or an arm on a ballcarrier, Cromartie just stops in front of them (see AFC Divisional Game against Jets, Jet’s final touchdown run). He would be, at best, our nickleback.

I dsiagree with both of you. Samuels is better without a doubt, but I think Cromartie is better than Hobbs most days. I’d pencil him in at #2 if we had him. But we don’t, its not that big of a deal, and Hobbs will be fine.

I do want to see him, that’s for sure. He should be backing up/spelling all the CB positions and should be the backup outside corner. I don’t like him in the slot for whatever reason; if Hanson were to get injured I’d rather see Hobbs moved inside or have Patterson play slot. Lindley seems like a much better outside guy.

I hope you guys are right...

The talent is there. No doubt! I just don’t feel good about the offensive line. Coach Reid has been good for our franchise for the last 11 years. He’s given the team an identity. I like the fact he’s aggressive.

I just have my doubts this year about how he’ll manage Kolb. I don’t think we need to run the ball 30 times a game; I just don’t want us to be predictable. It seemed like last year we were too predictable.

Plus, you guys aren’t considering the schedule. Our schedule will be tough.

It all comes down to the defense

The offense will be ok BUT. We have 3 new LBs from last year, 1 new DL man (with several new additions as role players) and 2 new starters in the secondary. If they can all play football together and gel well, we’ll be good to go.

Im the opposite of that. I think the defense will be the main reason we succeed. Im iffy about the offensive for two reasons;

1) Our O-Line will either lose us games, or get Kolb and Shady killed.

2) We play a lot of good D’s, with a young offensive that i learning to play together, there will be a lot of turnovers.

I still think we will have a top 10 D, maybe top 5.

Yeah, but...

THe LBs were crap last year, and the secondary wasn’t so hot either. So it’s not necessarily a bad thing that there are new guys.

That being said…

- I think the OL will be OK by midseason. Hopefully, Kolb and McCoy will still be alive to enjoy it.
- They really need a 4th S.
and…
- Kolb will be great. And Kolb will suck. And Kolb will be mediocre. Sometimes on the same series. He’s a first-year starter. He has to learn. It’s unfair to expect massive quantities of success from him. In the long run, I think he’ll be decent, but unspectacular. This year, I think he’ll be wildly inconsistent.

8-8, probably.

by dweebowitz on Sep 6, 2010 8:59 PM EDT up reply actions

I'll say that I agreed with that prior to the preseason games

our defense looked “on” in those games. They were really good. Our defense is fast! and I like them.

Our offense looked out of sync…but I’m not worried. We have all the pieces in place, we just have to shake out some kinks. I think we’ll be a good football team

nope.

too many “if” situations, too many holes, too many unknowns and unprovens. temper your expectations, people.

by Bleediots on Sep 6, 2010 4:10 PM EDT reply actions

I agree

I think people are so used to the fact that we have only have 1 losing record in the last decade that we should just pick up where we left off because of what we expect out of our youth on the team. I have no doubt in my mind that down the road and for years to come we should be undeniably one of the top teams in the NFL, but too many transitions unknowns as of right now. We don’t know how Kolb is going to be really in his first full time starting season, LeSean McCoy is entering his first full time season as a starter, Maclin looks like he is going to have a sophomore slump (God forbid), we have a new set of LBs for the most part (Stew and Jordan have been here, but Stew is still coming off injury and will be playing his first 16 since and he’s doing it with new partners to the left and right), I love Ernie but he needs to get his mind right at WLB, we have a rookie starting at safety, a new corner opposite Samuel, and we still have very little clue about how our line will be (biggest of all).

by macjack09 on Sep 6, 2010 4:27 PM EDT up reply actions

Eh
too many transitions unknowns as of right now

-I don’t think so. Yes, we have a new QB, but he’s not a rookie. There is a world of difference between a rookie and a first year starter who’s been learning on the bench with a couple starts under his belt. Kolb doesn’t need to carry the team on his shoulders, we don’t need superman…we just need efficiency. Our defense has turned over a lot, but besides Graham and Allen we have proven players (Hobbs, Sims, Barnes)…I see us as upgraded on the defensive side of the ball. Questions, sure, but a much bigger upside.

We don’t know how Kolb is going to be really in his first full time starting season

-8 years ago, we needed McNabb to be Superman. He was arguably the only real skill position talent we had on the offense, and we needed him to carry the team on his shoulders. We needed someone awesome under center. Today, we have so many weapons…we don’t need that guy. Just get the ball out quickly and accurately. Kolb will be fine. Mistakes? Yes, but no reason to think the guy isn’t going to do what we need him to.

LeSean McCoy is entering his first full time season as a starter

-Again, not a rookie. We know what he’s capable of moreso than the Charger’s Ryan Mathews, or Bill’s C.J. Spiller. RB isn’t a terribly hard position to play. Rookies can come in and be successful, and our guy is in his 2nd year. He’ll be fine, he has 4 starts and over 600 yards under his belt. Not as big a question as you’re making him out to be.

Maclin looks like he is going to have a sophomore slump

-Really? Where are you drawing this from? One bad preseason game?

we have a new set of LBs for the most part

-Again, you’re making this out to be a bigger question mark than it is. Stew has shown that his knee is fine, it’s not like he hasn’t tested it out…he’s been active all through camp and preseason with no setbacks. What more does the guy have to do to show that he’s ready? Jordan’s not new, he knows our system inside and out, sure he switched positions, but it’s not as if he’s an unproven rookie.

-

a new corner opposite Samuel

-Again, you’re overstressing the ‘new’ idea. He’s been with us a year, but more importantly, he’s started opposite Samuel for two years already on the Pats. That’s not really new position for him.

we still have very little clue about how our line will be

Or ‘who’ our line will be. If we go into week one with Peters, Herremans, Jackson, Cole, and Justice, and that works…We have a very good clue about how our line will be. The biggest question is whether Jackson’s knee holds up. If it does…we’re good. Wells might beat out Cole, but then we upgraded, so that’s good.

I get that you’re trying to temper expectations, but overall I think you’re making our transitions out to be a bigger deal than they are. I could apply your logic to any team:

-We don’t know how Drew Brees will play now that he has to defend a SB title, and they’re no longer underdogs.
-We don’t know how Adrian Peterson will play now that they’re WRs and QB are banged up and he’ll likely have to carry a larger load.

I agree

There are too many “what ifs” I would be happy if we make it to the playoffs with a QB in his first year starting, our RB is still questioned if he can carry what BWEST did and the Oline is still suspect. Our D has improved though. My biggest concern is the secondary. Hobbs starting and a rookie safety put me on edge but I am optimistic. Allen shows promise but once again Sunday will be a true test for Kolb. If he can avoid the blitz and the line keeps him off of his back; it’ll be interesting. I don’t think that we are expecting anything crazy for the first game. Kolb will probably throw a TD or two and possibly a INT to woodson. As long as we pressure Rodgers and break down his Oline early, I could see a win. I’m not too high on his RB.

I realize

you’re worried about the “new QB” Kolb, and McCoy… I dont really think our OL is that suspect, we got some damn good depth, if a piece fails we just plug that Wells guy in or for center McGlynn and go, I seriously love our OL right now…

Our Defense is pretty fucking good, Hobbs excelled when the patriots had a good pass rush that took a bit of pressure off of him, our Pass rush is very good and that should help all of the DB’s.. I was worried about our secondary but ever since the signing of Juron(spelling?) I’ve been slowly gaining more trust in them… I think Allen is going to go on an absolute shock and awe campaign as a rookie and make us forget all about Dawkins and everything..

If we hit Rodgers enough, and we get consistant pressure and dont allow him to get comfortable we WILL win the game barring some crazy shit.

Eagles will make the playoffs...............

From what I’ve seen based on the mini camps, training camp and preseason, I believe the Eagles will make the playoffs. What the record will be??….I don’t know, but I’ll take 9-7, 10-6 or 11-5. I saw a lot of improvement on this team. The rookies from last year along with the first year players and Michael Vick, had a great conditioning program off-season, along with rest of the team. The new conditioning coach and trainer did a tremendous job in getting everyone in shape and improved their overall conditioning. Notice no major injuries this year. The organization started improving the defense right away….filling the need for additional help for the DEs, picked up some additional help for the DL, Bradely and Gaither are healthy and the rest of the LB group is greatly improved.
Also with the draft a natural safety was acquired in Nate Allen. This kid is no Macho Harris and no Demps. He is a nature for that position and showed it from day one. I’m extremely happy with that pick. Hobbs and Samuels are DB teammates from New England, they both know each others moves, understand each others strengths and weaknesses. To have them playing together again as a team……damn good. Mikell….pro bowler. Like he said, now that the safety position is secured and he, Samuels and Hobbs all trust Nate Allen, they can better concentrate on their own jobs this year rather then playing their position while keeping an eye on the safety position too. That caused a lot of crap to happen last year. The defense this year is quick, hard hitting…and if you noticed during the preseason, they swarmed to the ball. Even Samuels knocked the crap out of someone in one game. This defense is going to be good.
The offense will be OK. Peters had a great off-season. Those off-sides will get under control. Peters came here and had to adjust to McNabbs cadence at the snap, now he has to readjust to Kolb’s cadence at the snap. Part of Peters play is anticipating the snap before the defense….getting a jump on whoever is in front of him. Peters will be OK and make the probowl again. Herremanns….solid and ready. If Jamal Jackson is ready for game day…..HUGE plus. Nick Cole…..I always thought Nick was dependable and better than the Andrews. He started every game last year. And played 3 positions on the OL. One was lousy of course….at the center. But at the time he was all we had. Justice….he’ll have an even better year this year. At TE….Celek has good backup. Clay Harbor had a strong showing all the way through. It’s a shame about Ingram. Those injuries did him in. Wish him well though….tremendous talent when healthy. As for the running backs…..McCoy is bigger and stronger this year because of the off-season conditioning program. Mike Bell…….great backup. Buckley…..strong runner, hard worker and I’m glad we got him. Remember Booker???? And at FB….the Eagles have the best in the league in Leonard Weaver. Can’t get any better.
What do I need to say about the Wide Receivers…..big improvement from last year. Jackson, Maclin, Avant….do I need to say anything. Bringing back Basket was a good thing and one of the surprises of the draft….Cooper…..damn good, damn good. The biggest question everyone has is at the QB spot. It was a question when McNabb took over and he became a probowler and gave the Eagles 11 damn good years of winning football. Kolb will be ok, better than most people think….especially if the OL holds up which I believe it will….lots of backup there too. Vick has shown a huge improvement and I believe Andy pulled him earlier in the last game because he had seen enough. Vick took the team down field without any mistakes. If Cooper could have held on to that last pass, maybe we would have gone on into the end zone, but had to settle for a FG. I’m very proud at what the organization did during the off-season. I think we’re a better team than last year………ok ok….most of that depends on Kolb…lol. But everyone is healthy….it’s a young hungry team with young hungry veterans who want revenge….who want to prove all the doubters wrong…..and I believe they will. Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Eagles.

Rose colored shades bro.

I mean do you do you see anything wrong with this team?

Take the name off the back of the jersey's and reinvent football as a team sport.

Don’t take your grammar lessons from JIBTA.
To your points, Simply stated: The Front Office did a very good job this off season to address the biggest holes on the team. Who knows if the fixes will work? The biggest question marks now are inexperience and ’Gelling". As for the defensive secondary, they got rid of several questionable players – 2nd stringer-types who were starting, and replaced them with unknown, but promising rookies.

The O-Line mostly healed itself, but the addition of an experienced guard did not hurt. I hope they can open holes for the runners this year. Linebackers look healthy and maybe there has been a good addition. Time will tell.

The Eagles are going up against a solid Dallas, an improved Washington and a floundering NY in the division. In the East, it’s often not who is the better team, but who has a better day. That’s six games right there, and probably a seventh if there is a NFC East wild card. You can guarantee that the Skins are going to fight like devils against the Eagles this year, no matter how good or bad they are the rest of the season. Emotions, y’know.

The Eagles are not so overwhelmingly better than the other teams in the East – like they have been in the recent past – to make any victory a sure bet. It’s going to be a hard fought season and they will have to earn every win. At least now they have the tools in place to have a decent chance.

Like someone said above, “I’m going to watch every game.”

while many people are leaning toward a losing season

i still think were a lock for wild card and at the same time until the reg season starts , i think were just gonna be one of those teams every week that will destroy you or bend … so hopefully we can develop some consistency

What I really think

is that this team is the hardest to predict in years how its going to do. Not much has changed offensively except the most important position on the offense. A lot has changed defensively and only time will how good the D is. I’m hoping and expecting a 10-11+ win season but i wouldn’t be too surprised if we only get 7 wins.
