Eagles and Cardinals Deal Again, This Time for Reggie Wells

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Eagles and Cardinals have just completed another trade. This one will send starting offensive guard Reggie Wells to Philadelphia in exchange for a sixth round draft pick. The 6'4" 314 pound lineman has been a durable piece of Arizona's line over the past seven seasons and excels in blocking for the running game. However, he was beaten out of his starting position over the course of the preseason and the Eagles were able to pick him up for pennies. He should be a solid replacement to start in Stacy Andrews' place.

Rumor has it that Andrews is now on the trading block.

Wow, nice move. Wells is good, as is my understanding.

I am slightly less fearful of Kolb getting blown up in the middle.

I think this guy was born near Philly.

I know some of his family. He is a good pick up. Home he does “Well” here. (intended pun)

Nope. He was born in South Park Township, PA which is about 25 minutes south of Pittsburgh. Also, he attended Clarion University.

Yeah, I checked that. But he has family here.

I work with one of his relatives. They talked about him all the time. Now I’m not gonna hear the end of this.

Well at least he is an Eagle and not playing for some other team that you don’t care about.

As I said on Talon's post...

The J.J. Arrington-level pick.

It’s possible that Howie just turned Joe Mays into Reggie Wells.

As one to Jew to another, Howie, may I say that you do our people proud. Mazel!

as another jew...

let me say Howie Roseman is our Bar Mitzvah Boy tonight. I almost danced the Horah.

i think this is good.

Wow

This is interesting. I wonder what he did to lose his job but he has been a starter for a couple years if I’m remembering correctly.

Let's get it Birds.

When I first heard Howie Roseman interviewed, he sounded like a weenie. Now I don’t care what he sounds like, he’s my kind of GM. This is another example this offseason where he’s constantly looking to upgrade any and all positions.

I covered him (sort of) in the possible camp cut thing I wrote, and the Cards writers had him projected as a starter…

Cardinals (OG) – Alan Faneca came over from the Jets and will start at LG. Reggie Wells is the likely starter on the right side, with Herman Johnson serving as his primary competition. Rex Hadnot also provides valuable depth as a backup guard and center. The wildcard here is former 2nd round pick Deuce Lutui, who apparently has been eating small school children all offseason. The Cardinals would love to unload him for a draft pick, but I think interested teams might be wise to simply wait until he’s cut.

I guess the Cards like that Herman Johnson guy, and/or feel OK about Duece Lutui.

Love when it all comes together nicely like that, too, haha.

Trade Andres to GB or Chi

Great move

even if he turns out to be washed up. Don’t know anything about him though.

Stacey?

My only question is what are they looking for in return for Stacey Andrews?

Wells

isn’t exactly a world beater from my quick research on the question, but this is plucking low lying fruit, in terms of upgrading a weak position

JJ Arrington is officially cut. Eagles will receive the 6th rounder in 2012 from the Broncos.

Maybe the 6th rounder traded for Wells?

This is where Pro Football Focus would’ve come in handy. Damn you PFF!!

Great trade. A 6th rounder for a guard with 90 career starts.

90 starts

theres your #1 stat

by nocostyle on Sep 3, 2010 3:10 PM EDT up reply actions

starts are a silly stat

Joey Harrington started 76 NFL games. Doesn’t make him special. Makes him experienced.

(Not to diss Reggie Wells of course)

I put a dollar in a change machine. Nothing changed.

by alcatraz0109 on Sep 3, 2010 3:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Indeed. I’d trade a 6th-rounder for Joey Harrington if I was really that desperate for a QB (of course, I can’t imagine anyone is that desperate.)

by Rujasu on Sep 3, 2010 4:36 PM EDT up reply actions

Awesome pickup...

better yet being a probable starter for 6th rounder…I’m liking Roseman as a GM more every day.

by McMuffin on Sep 3, 2010 3:13 PM EDT reply actions

According to Football Outsiders...

Arizona had the 7th best pass protecting O-line in the league last year. On the flip side, they weren’t so hot running the ball in the MID/GUARD positions, ranked 24th.

by Route36 on Sep 3, 2010 3:19 PM EDT reply actions

Does he have a knee injury? I mean, that’s a must if you’re an O-linemen for the Eagles.

RIP Jim Johnson, best ever.

by Imp on Sep 3, 2010 3:26 PM EDT reply actions

I’m sure we can rent Jeff Gillooly if it’s an issue.

I put a dollar in a change machine. Nothing changed.
