Why can't we trade for Revis?
I keep reading reports on the net about Revis not wanted to come back to the Jets. And I keep saying to my self, why can't we trade for him?
I know, I know, we have Asante and Revis wants 14 mil or so. Thats a nice piece of paper to give to any player. But last I checked, we put HIGH priorities on certaine positions.
QB, CB, DE, DT, T
We are not cheap when it comes to CB, we broke the bank on Samuel in the past. And I beleive that we will draft a CB next year with our first round pick. And this Revis situation is very similar to the Jason Peters situation. And we all know how that situation worked out for us, Buffalos problem became our gaine.
I think the Jets were preparing to go with out Revis from the jump. Notice how they drafted Kyle Wilson in the first round. Truth is, they don't need Revis. They have 2 good starting CBs. And I'm not sure Asante is hear past next year.
If we are gonna draft a CB next year, and we have an extra 3rd round pick. I would offer the Jets a first and a 3rd for Revis and sign that boy up for a while.
I'm have read no stories on the net insinuating we were looking in that direction, so this is just a shot in the dark. But it makes sense to me. Its sounds like an Eagle type of mood, plus there is no cap this year, and we really didn't sign any huge free agents (Being Peppers signed with the Bears) So basically, all that money we were prepared to sign Peppers to could be used to sign Revis.
I know I'm crazy, but I just wanted to get that tought out there. I am in no way predicting anything, rather just saying its a situation we should be watching. Set me straight if you disagree.

I think the fact that he needs a new deal actually lowers the value a little.
Being you got to pay him SOOO Much.
But yeah, DJax would definately need a change of pants.
In Kolb we trust
I mean if he was the missing
Piece of our superbowl team I would say he’ll yeah.

Even if you did lower the trade compensation the jets would still demand a Herschel Walker type deal. There’s no way to get around that. He’s arguably the best corner in the league (its hard to tell how good Nnamdi is because no one throws at him). You’d have to give away like all our picks in the first three rounds for 2 years before the Jets would show interest.
Let the beasting begin.

Two great points. Jackson would not be happy and would likely hold out next season, putting the Eagles in the same position.
If they resolve the league issue
DJax will get his huge deal next year.

Not worth it. Hobbs looks like he’s going to be able to play. Dmitri Patterson looks like an acceptable third guy. And I think Lindley could be the nickel back by Week 8; he looks good. Revis wouldn’t be enough of an upgrade over those players to warrant the huge price the team would have to pay.
disagree.
whereas i think it’s impossible that the FO would deal the kind of cash revis wants, revis island would be a huge upgrade over what we currently have. last time i checked hobbs wasn’t even that good of a dimeback last year.

Huh? Not enough of an upgrade?
Revis is probably the best CB in the entire league. An absolute shutdown corner. His WR is all but eliminated from the game. We don’t have anyone close to capable of doing that. I’m mildly comfortable with our DB situation. I like Samuel, Mikell and Allen. Hobbs is fine, Patterson is promising and I think Lindley is nothing to scoff at. But Revis is another thing altogether. Pair him with Samuel and then you really have something. We go from a decent, possibly mediocre secondary, to a truly formidable secondary. Now is it worth all the trouble to get him? Not sure, but if money and hurt feelings didn’t matter, I’d take Revis in less than half a heartbeat.
I agree with Rujasu
He is not enough of an upgrade for us to ship away the amount of picks the Jets would demand
forget about the upgrade of revis to hobbs and think about how much better this move would make our entire secondary.
This type of combination is exactly what the eagles defense was made for, one tight cover corner that locks down one side of the field forcing you to try and test Asante. Sure he is going to lose the battle occasionally but the amount of balls he grabs and starts running the other way with more than makes up for the occasional catch/run.
Then think about our rookie FS… now he not only has to adjust to a new defense, a new league, but he also has to constantly be keeping an eye on that CB2 spot to make sure they are sticking with their man. Letting Nate concentrate solely on his responsibilities could mean all the difference in the world.
VOID!!!
Not going to happen, that’s why. There’s way too many factors working against the possibility of the trade.
1) A long term deal would need to be settled prior to working out trade compensation, and the Jets would need to give team(s) permission to negotiate with Revis and his agent on said long term deal. Word would get out that’s on the block, and another team will pay the man more than Banner could cough up, kind of like the Bears did with Peppers.
2) Trade compensation — the Jets are going to want at least a first round pick and probably much, much more.
3) Who would play RCB? That’s a diva battle waiting to happen. Both are LCBs, neither one will want to play on the other side.
We have a good relationship with the Jets front office, but I don’t see any of these problems being overcome, nor do I think the Jets want to trade Revis anyway.
I don't think they want to trade him either.
But with Kyle Wilson, and Cromartie they can afford to make a deal.

Darrell Revis covers the best wideout regardless of side but yeah, not gonna happen.

dude wants 162 million

In addition to all the other comments above, I’d like to add that he now also has “Bad Character Stink” all over him, at least in my opinion.
I agree
He’s certainly not worth $16 Million per season. Didn’t Philly reject a trade offer from Oakland with Asomugha for McNabb because Philly didn’t want to pick up Asomugha’s ridiculous contract? I clearly understand Revis’ concern for a new contract. I side with him on that part. However, his demands are ludicrous!
Revis was certainly great at what he did last year, and only last year. He did not participate in any team activities and has not played in a single Preseason game. This guy has not been associated with football in a very, very, very long time. Way too risky at this point to consider trading what I believe would be 2 1st Round picks and a significantly overpaid contract.

there was never a Nmandi-McNabb trade offer
it was just a rumor

Banner or Reid
said it was a rumor? I had thought McNabb put the kibosh on a trade to Oak.

Asomugha is not 24.
Plus his contract is a mistake. I think Revis settle for less. (not much less though). Unfortunately, that how football is, once one guy makes, everyone else wants it as well. We are likely to draft a CB anyway, and I think am not to sure Asante is back next year.

Revis declined 120 Mil over 10 years
that would make him the highest paid defensive player in history. and he declined it

If we gave our no.1 next year and they said yes its a NO BRAINER.
But its not that simple. They won’t let him go for that. He is the best CB in FB and is 24.

Yeah, for a 1st and a 3rd
But his contract demands are b-a-n-a-n-a-s and they’d want way more than a 1 and a 3.
Nope.
Its been said
he will take 12 mill a year but he wants it fully guaranteed. Thats less than Asmugha.

Word on the street.....
Direct from CITINFO…… this is a good trade. A first and third for Revis, and you can adjust his contract for 7 years to just under 96 million. It’s been tried and tested on Madden 11 so it absoutely works. I can’t believe Howie R dosen’t pull the trigger on this one!

I would LOVE for the Eagles to trade for Revis. Eagles would then have the best CB tandom in the league that’d perfectly compliment each other. Interception-happy Samuels and shutdown receivers Revis. It would be awesome.
Of course, Jets would have to be dumber than a rock to trade him.
RIP Jim Johnson, best ever.
BUT...
They have that crazy ass coach in Rex Ryan. God knows what could happen but you can never rule anything out. I mean, he said himself that not having Revis wouldn’t be the end of the world; it would just be a blow to an already good defense w/o Revis. I bet every single person in this blog would trade a 1st and a 3rd for Revis for 13 mil a year. I would.
If I'm goin' to hell, you're coming with me...
I liked this post until
you gave some crazy trade offer. It honestly bothers me when people put up trade ideas. Especially on the basketball Sb nation sites. All they use is the ESPN trade machine for those garbage trades.
And this Revis situation is very similar to the Jason Peters situation. And we all know how that situation worked out for us,
I haven’t been that impressed with Peters since we got him. He definitely better then what we would’ve had, but i expected a top 5 RT, hes clearly not. Looks out of shape, and you can pencil him in for at least 1 False Start every game.
agreed
if he is the best OT I am the second best!

Not the Eagles style
the Eagles don’t make last second snap decisions that are not well planned out. The Eagles big moves are in free agency when there is time and decisions aren’t rash. By the way, thanks for admitting your crazy, it saves the rest of us the time and effort.
Cowboys suck.
