The Michael Vick show continued today as the Philadelphia Eagles newly anointed starter made his head coach look pretty smart... Michael Vick threw for 3 TDs and ran for another in the Eagles 28-3 blow out of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
It was all around fantastic day from an Eagles offense that showed both big play ability and red zone efficiency. With Vick at the helm the Eagles have scored TDs on 7 of their last 8 re zone trips. The big plays came from DeSean Jackson who caught a 61 yard TD and Jeremy Maclin who hauled in a 45 yarder. Maclin's TD was his fourth of the year, which ties him for the most in the NFL.
As good as the Eagles offense was, the defense was perhaps even more impressive. Given how poorly they'd played the last two weeks, the defenses' performance today has to be the most important takeaway from week 3. They sacked David Garrard 6 times and Asante Samuel grabbed his first pick of the year. The Jaguars managed just 184 yards of offense, a decent chunk of which came in garbage time of the 4th quarter.
Today's top performers
Michael Vick - 17-31, 291 yards & 3 TDs. He also added 30 yards rushing and a TD.
Jeremy Maclin - 4 rec, 84 yards, 2 TDs
DeSean Jackson - 5 rec, 153 yards, 1 TD
Trent Cole - 2 sacks, 1 pass defensed
Trevor Laws - 1 sack, 5 tackles with 2 for a loss, and 2 passes batted down. For me, he was the best player on defense today.
Very good win for the Eagles today, but up next a showdown with Donovan McNabb and the 1-2 Redskins at the Linc looms.
